If Satan is evil, why is he used as a punishment for evil people? Wouldn't Satan be dapping people up when they enter hell?

He isn't, and it's explained in the bible lol

How was it explained?

He was sent to hell for not wanting to serve humans and so he tests them and tortures them for not obeying the God he loves.

There are interpretations that Satan and Lucifer are two entirely different entities. Satan is the deciever, the serpent of the garden of Eden whereas Lucifer was the original right hand of God and the most beautiful of the angels that became a fallen angel for starting the uprising in heaven.

Basically, the angels were created from the light of creation, whereas man was created from the dirt. When God ordered the choir to serve mankind, Lucifer thought it was beneath the angels to do so. The practical upshot of this is also that hell was never meant for man, it was created to punish Lucifer and the angels that joined his rebellion.

Satan is an entirely different demon. The serpent of Eden, and Job's torturer among other things.

I've read through the bible more than twice, cover to cover, and I can tell you for a fact that neither of these interpretations are backed by scripture. Satan used to be Lucifer, the original source of temptation, and evil. But we know the end of the story, and spoiler alert, he loses.

TopicI have decided to get lasik

I've had my eyes fried by lasers. But I couldn't get something simple like LASIK. Nope my eyes were too far gone with astigmatism! I was forced to consider PRK treatment. Even with PRK, my eyes were so far gone my doctor said any surgery could prove to be ineffective. But I persisted and asked him if he would try anyways. Eventually he agreed because we both ended up having the same first name. LOL!

So the day for surgery came. I went in and they numbed my eyes. People who only require Lasik are lucky. They come in, both eyes are completed with a few seconds each, then comes the healing. As for me, I was forced to endure the surgery for a solid 10 minutes. The experience was straight out of a nightmare. I could smell the flesh from my eyes burning. Trust me, that is not a smell you would ever like to register in your mind...They gave me a stuffed animal to hold on, to draw focus away from my eyes. I squeezed that thing like hell! The entire time you have to hold perfectly still. Through all the tears and pain.

My week of hell began immediately afterward. After the initial pain meds wore off it became impossible to ignore what my eyes were feeling. If you imagine someone taking steak knives, shoving them straight through your pupil, and leaving them there...you will get an idea of how it felt. I'm really grateful my dad could take off of work and spend the night with me at a hotel. Between the pain and the loopiness from the meds I was in no condition to be by myself.

On the follow-up appointment with the doctor the next day we realized the only solution to stopping my pain was taking the same numbing eye drops that I had started with. I finally got some relief, but it did nothing for the accompanying temporary blindness. It happens to everyone, as I understand it, and I was no different. I had to be guided to the car and guided back into my house. Luckily I know my own place well enough that I could get around with only 10% vision possible or so. I had to make my entire place as dark as possible. Any major light source would cause pain to my eyes . And closing my eyelids Felt like rubbing sandpaper on my eyeballs. Sleeping was no fun, either.

Even once you get past the pain, and the blindness, there is a mountain of boredom to overcome. Coming up with ways to pass the time when everything I like to do requires my eyes was just another struggle. My family came to my rescue once again! My younger sister stayed with me and played through the first Ratchet & Clank from beginning to end. Took her about 12 hours straight but we enjoyed the time together. She thought Clank was cute and was glad she played it. It was really hard but I found ways to overcome pain, boredom, and blindness for the next week.

My story ends well enough. While I was unable to obtain perfect 20/20 vision. I was able to leave glasses behind. Had to go to the DMV and retest myself so I would be allowed to drive without glasses.

It's been about 5 years now. Haven't needed glasses since. Completing PRK surgery was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life! But it has brought me the freedom to ignore all of the frustrations and costs that come with glasses. No more wiping off fingerprints. No more difficulties with sunglasses. It's also gave me a huge boost in confidence which translated well into everything else I did. The quality of my life definitely improved. I did encounter a couple side effects such as "haloing" around light sources. Driving at night also became a little more difficult. But when all is said and done, I'm really glad I was able to accomplished the surgery. Couldn't have done it without family and friends!

You may be able to go without sleep. Apparently, scientist still have no idea why we need it.

That is absolutely not true. Sleep is getting well documented for its ability to rejuvenate the mind, encourage digestion/nutrient absorption, and even physical healing. (Obviously not like wolverine or anything but it promotes normal healing rates.)

A good night's sleep is incredibly important. And science readily supports this fact.

I was playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and it got me thinking. We really haven't seen many prominent werewolf/lycanthrope characters since the original wolf man back in the day.

Main question: Who stands out to you as the best werewolf character? Or your favorite of the bunch? Could be from video games, movies, books, wherever.

Bonus question: Do you agree that werewolf characters don't get as much focus as other monsters, such as vampires? If so, why do you think that's the case?

My second viewing of Homecoming cemented for me just how bad of a person their version of Peter Parker turned out to be.

Don't get me wrong. He's a quippy, nerdy teenager juggling life at home, while being a super hero. That's all good, and a better balance than what was showing during the Raimi trilogy or the Amazing series. But it's its like they took 2 steps forward and 5 steps back!

This depiction of Peter Parker is manipulative, naive, neglectful and dangerously reckless! I understand he isn't an adult just yet, and superhero-ing is hard. But they went waaay overboard depicting the struggle!

First of all, who the hell in their right mind would rip an entire treehouse out of a tree and bring it down in the yard?! What if kids were inside for a sleepover?! We literally just saw kids in the previous yard, staying in a tent in their backyard! Besides that, there were a lot of broken fences, the sandwich shop, and obviously the ferry. I get that it's in order to show he's over his head. And Tony definitely addresses the issue. But it's Peter's almost complete disregard for everything he's done that's so glaringly stupid! He's almost 18! He's a freaking super genius, aspiring to be an Avenger, and has the other responsibilities of a regular teenager. And his response to everything he destroys amounts to "Lol oops my bad but I'm still the good guy." Are you kidding me?!

How about the way he treats his aunt? Scaring her with his lack of presence, repeatedly placing himself in dangerous situations without calling, then having the nerve to get her to drop whatever she's doing to help him?

"Aunt May I'm going to my Homecoming! Dress me up, chop chop!"

"Aunt May drive me to the party!"

We never see him do chores. We never see him do anything nice for her in either this or Civil war. She's a single guardian who presumably lost her husband recently! And Peter treats her like his personal slave.

The last thing I'll bring up is his underhanded manipulation of his supposed "best friend" Ned. All through the movie, Ned does just about anything Peter asks him, and is an all-around bro. So what the hell is up with the whole:

"Come on, Ned, hack into this suit, even though it's obviously wrong and ends up almost killing people! You'll be the guy in the chair. All Ned wants to do is hang out with Peter, and help him. But Peter uses him thr entire time, and does nothing for him in return! What a truck load of garbage!

I think I might be turning into JJ. Homecoming's Spider-Man is a menace! And a complete disservice to the character.

Having said that, I did help out this older woman when I was visiting Hammersmith.

My mom had some fresh pasta she was not going to eat. We figured it would be better to give it to someone homeless instead of throwing it away. The woman had her dog with her. Said she was feeling hopeless. Needed 20 pounds to stay in the local hostel for the night. She started crying and said three men had been bullying her earlier that day. I told her don't give up hope and went back to my hotel.

Wasn't sure if she was telling the truth. But it didn't really matter to me.

I guess what I'm saying is we have to use our discretion sometimes.

No.

I have volunteered at my local rescue mission. They always have room for more people, and food stocked in their kitchen. However, they have a strict policy against drug use.

So when I see a group of people congregating at the same corner by the Target parking lot week after week, waving their cardboard sign, it's pretty obvious what they're really looking for.

VentFAQS incoming. Any advice or encouragement would be appreciated. Hell, I'll just be happy with someone who listens.

I'm the oldest of a family of 5. We live in a Midwest town that has less than 100,000 people. I'm single, and going to turn 30 next week. And that's all the context we need for now.

You could take every member of my family, and break down a specific conflict they personally contribute. (Probably me as well, but I'm not sure how.)To keep things more brief, I'll just share what's stressing me out right now.

Let's start with the middle sister, Simone. She has autism, just like my brother. She is not considered low-functioning, but she suffers from high-anxiety and intense OCD. She is connected with speech therapy, extra curricular activites and medication. Though she has seen considerably less seizures than she used to have, it hasn't helped her anxiety much at all. Just yesterday she had a 6 hour episode at my father's house. Asking him over and over what she was having for lunch, dinner, or dozens of other questions. And she doesnt do this happily. Sometimes she gets so distraught over it, she is driven to tears.

Speaking of houses, my parents are divorced. Have been since I was 12. It solved some problems. But it didnt change how they handle life. They constantly argue on how to raise Simone, and my other 2 younger sisters. They go far enough to criticize one another as toxic, and threaten each other for custody every other week, it seems. Neither one of them is innocent, IMO. But they both came from abusive households, which left them with a lot of baggage.

This baggage comes back onto me, and my sisters. I think my youngest sister is suffering from it directly. Let's call her Rose. Our state allows family members to be "employed" by other members with special needs. So I work with my brother, and Rose works with Simone. My brother can have his moments, but I dont feel like it compares to the difficulties that come with Simone's behavior. Mom and Dad expect Rose to work for Simone, because who could be better, right? There is also a lack of other SCL/Respite workers available who can cater to Simone's specific needs.

The problem is Rose is a teenager. She has always been very well behaved in the past. We were raised in a Christian household. She has always stayed true to our shared values until now. It's started with multiple boyfriends in just a couple years. Then came her patterns of staying out late. She has missed times where she needed to be available for my sister. Mom and Dad work long hours with Simone already, as well as their own careers besides, so they dont appreciate whenever she drops the ball. She is getting payed for Simone, after all. And now my mom is accusing Rose of smoking weed and drinking while underage. I didnt think she would ever cosider doing those things. But I'm just not sure anymore. As her older brother, it really worries me.

The worst part about this for me is how helpless I feel about it all. I do everything I can to be there for everybody. I take care of multiple chores for my mom and sisters even though we technically live in separate apartments. I talk to them all almost every day, sometimes for hours at a time. I offer support, encouragement, and advice whenever they're open to it (not very often). And I pray every day for them until I feel like my heart is going to burst.

I do find peace with God. I trust that He is in control of it all. I am blessed with a group of friends, a place to live, and a job that is very convenient and rewarding. But life can be really hard sometimes. So exhausting. And I wish more than anything I would stop feeling so powerless and defeated. Being in the middle of it all is so incredibly stressful.

If you also want to share your stories, I will try and read them in return. If you looked at all this mess, you have my thanks.

I live in a small midwest city of 60,000 people or so. Using the 60 mile limitation got me about 15 matches in total after a month of waiting. That's what I call stupid. I didn't see an alternative to opening my distance limitation. I'm also not interested in using hookup apps like Tinder. I'm not looking to score some dirty poon tang. You like video games so he suggests you pursue women interested in video games. You're being difficult being so rigid with what he said instead of picking up on the intent.

I don't see it as solid advice. I see it as desperate dismissal of my concerns. Maybe you can back yourself up, and address all of the issues I brought up in the first post. If you can handle all of that, you might convince me. Not saying you have to do anything. But I won't believe you until you do. As one of you may be aware, I made an eHarmony account last month. After messaging multiple women, I have gotten absolutely no contact. So I decided to remove my radius limitation of 60 miles and hope that this month goes better.

So my dad asked me how it was going and I told him as much. Then he suggested why not look up dating websites related to video games?

I rolled my eyes, but he persisted. He says why not try? He thinks that is the type of woman that I would like to meet, and that it couldn't hurt to widen my search.

But I ask why bother? Those types of websites are very likely to be geared towards scamming in my opinion. They're likely to prey on Desperate neckbeards who no longer wish to spend their time on the internet with their left hand and want the real thing.

Going along with that, and even going so far as to assume these websites are filled with legitimate people looking to make a romantic connection, I still have my doubts. Isnt this just aa dorky, or embarressing thing to do? Goong after the clihe imagr of a hot gamer girl?

Or what If these kinds of websites are filled with women who do not meet my personal standards of physical attraction? (Not saying that I am some kind of male model. Just talking specifically about my personal tastes.) Or what if the women on these web sites do not share my basis of faith? That would be a deal-breaker and I have a suspicion that this type of crowd would skew towards atheists.

In any case I was looking for some opinions outside of my father who is anxious to get me hooked up with just about anybody.

Do you guys agree that this would be a waste of my time? Or do you think it would be worth taking a look? I'm not really wiling to spend even more time doing this if it's going to take up nore time, leave me without success, and just end up making me feel worse.

I am also going to Europe soon. I'm visiting almost all of the same countries as you for my 30th birthday!

Have you been given any tips for staying in these countries? Or just safety in general? I would like to hear them if so.

You're not allowed to use eHarmony without paying for a subscription. It's all or nothing with them. I thought I was paying for $16 a month when I signed with them. Since thats the way it was displayed. But looking at my bank account, I guess it was all drawn out at once.

Just made an eHarmony account this week. Paid $217 for one year. Think I have any chance? Or is it just a waste of money?

I don't see it as wrong. You're not taking your own copy of the game as a personal possession. You're just playing a version that is being streamed to you. It's no different than borrowing from a friend.

I agree that tipping is an old practice used to manipulate people and poor employees. We should especially stop tipping freaking delivery boys. What's up with that? That's like a tip on top of another tip! Ridiculous.

Still waiting for a good argument. Whining about "muh liberty" and resorting to conspiracy theories is not going to get us anywhere.

Anyone who posts a topic on a divisive issue and openly states they wont respond to arguments on it is either thoughtless or spineless, or worse, both.

Because gathering the opinions of others is such a crime. Don't get so worked up over strangers on the internet. LOL

Also, to put things in perspective - If there was a Florida shooting TWICE A DAY... You'd save more lives cracking down on drunk driving.

I saw a similar argument elsewhere. This logic fails to convince me, in particular, because any mass shooting is too many in my book.

From my understanding our previous ban of them had basically no real impact on gun deaths.

From my understanding, a gun that can shoot less bullets will kill less people. Common sense. (If you really expect me to believe otherwise, post unbiased statistics. I'll be waiting.)

i consider every bit of freedom to be valuable because i am an adult

A truly mature individual (AKA adult) would realize that having any and all freedoms available does nothing but encourage those who would abuse those freedoms. That's why we have...laws...doy. The trick is finding the balance between liberty and safety. And the results seem far too skewed in the wrong direction for my liking.

AverageBoss posted...
A law that punishes 100% of the population for the actions of a fraction of a fraction of the population is unjust.

Don't be naive. Many laws and other societal rules exist for this exact reason.

I don't want to argue. I don't want to get tangled up in "what is an assault weapon" label BS. I don't want to see ludicrous D-grade conspiracy theories pop up in a pitiful attempt for a legitimate response to this issue. (Just today a friend from church told me we have no reason to do anything about this because of fricking Manchurian candidates. It left me feeling shocked.)

I'm just looking to educate myself, and get some simple discussion on the matter.

If you have a rational, compelling argument on why we, as a people, should NOT remove bump stocks, fully automatic, and other weapons of this nature from legal, public circulation...I would like to see what you have to say.

If you are on the same page as I am, and you have compelling counter-arguments against common reasoning you see from the pro-gun side, I'd like to read them.

I will probably not be replying, unless I need some clarification. I don't really want to participate in bickering or fighting. I just want to learn more on this issue.

I specifically meant I haven't heard of anybody in my area being held responsible for today's gun threat. Leading me to believe he or she will receive no consequences for ruining this night's activities for my community. Pisses me off...

Some of the teachers who had the day off today used it to protest gun control in the local park. I'm looking at some of them post on Facebook. It seems really tense. But no actual violence has been declared thus far.

He's also going to get several years in juvie or possibly even "grownup" prison.

I have yet to hear of any singular student getting punished for this. Makes me think the kid who wanted to get off school just leaked a "rumor that he heard." Pisses me off because it really feels like he, or she I guess, is getting away with ruining some perfectly good events for hundreds of people tonight.

I heard about it personally from my sister last night. She attends the high school that received the threat. I graduated from there in '08.

On the one hand, safety for those kids is obviously important.

On the other hand, I can't help but feel irritated. Some stupid high school punk just got the free day off school that he was looking for. And this gives gun threats more "power."

Isn't there a better course of action, here? They're talking about canceling a dance, as well as a basketball game tonight. That isn't fair to kids like my little sister. Just because of some burn out who didnt want to go to math class...
