I know it's a genetic thing where it "tastes like soap" and I've supposedly got it, but it more tastes... idk, floral to me? In dishes where it is present it doesn't really override the other spice.

Went gen 6. The one where I finally dont shun megas, since MegaKanga basically defined the meta for a while, and it made the other three viable (Audino more so in the TCG, but details.)

Additionally, my SwSh team has Helioptile as a bit of a sleeper hit. I dont know how I relied on it so much, but I did - plus it's going on Team Lizard if I can ever assemble a six Poke team.

Meanwhile I will ACTIVELY shun genwun in this case for a bunch of normal fliers, and bad Pokes that almost all had to eventually be tweaked with alternate forms and later gen evolutions to make them usable. And then you have Chansey, original sinner for the fat pink whore, while still doing a stall job way too well with Eviolite. Ugh. Eevee and Ditto are the only good ones of the bunch, and I say this as a Persian-enjoyer.

Beyond that, every gen i absolutely loathe something in it to bring it down for being a gimmick or a "you're starting out here have this and dump it immediately when you can catch more than 3 unique mons" Poke (the early route rodents, generally, except Zigzagoon who is friendship-shaped, and Bidoof, who is HM-shaped.)

2 and 9 are out due to the original sin of Delibird and its paradox. 7 likewise for Crabominable and un-sanding the Sandshrew line. 6 is out because its lone mega showing is somehow terrible despite looking badass, and also because the fossil and the Bergmite line are the biggest whatever. 3 is out because I feel nothing but antipathy for its showing. 1 is out because Cloyster and Lapras dont make up for the meh otherwise.

This leaves me a tossup between Sinnoh, Unova, and Galar (I actually like the Vanillish line). Ultimately it comes down to which I've used on a team, so Sinnoh is out, since I've used Cryogonal and Eiscue both. Then it comes to what I dislike less between Beartic and Galarian Darmanitan, and thus Galar wins for me.

All hail Snom.

Edit: and then I forgot Mamoswine not even a day later. Welp. Still 50 50 between Sinnoh and Galar.

Ground is another one of my favorite types, and the first one I went to when it came to building a themed gym team back around gen 5 (Mamoswine, Dugtrio, Stunfisk, Camerupt, Claydol, Excadrill.) I learned pretty that their speed back then was nearly universally a dumpster fire, with the two exceptions (Dugtrio and Excadrill) both being on my team.

I dont get the genwun love here though, since almost everything was either saddled with a rock type or mono, and tbh, I prefer A-Marowak to the vanilla.

...maybe its because Diggersby was a tragedy and sullied the style by comparison for generations to come.

Best starter of the fires, fire/poison being a cool type combo for Salazzle, and i think Blacephelon is neat for a UB, with the whole "demon ghostly clown who explodes it's own head at you" thing it's got going.

Side note that I find it weird Solgaleo is not part fire.

Hatterne and Grimmsnarl's whole line are both brilliant, G-Weezing hilarious, G-Rapidash pretty, and Zacian gets the "best cover legendary for its generation plus a few others" award. 9/10 hits for me.

I am super not a fan of dragon types after a few generations causing me salt until Fairy came along and slapped them upside the head, somewhat. Thus, this one came down to which gen had the least annoying ones for me- which disqualifies 1-3 by default (Flygon and Rayquaza can not make up for the sins that are Lati@s and Salamence.) Gen 4 and 5 both stumble from their legendaries, and gen 7 stumbles with everything that isnt Naganadel for me. That leaves 6, 8, and 9, and I just have to appreciate the puns of a very light dragon named after Duralumin, the wyrm in the apple, and the general coolness of a ghost dragon in Dragapult.

Sorry the question is vague, as I *am* at work, but let me try and rephrase it.

What's a piece of work you can talk at length about that you could still sell somebody on viewing/reading for one reason or another?

In my two examples, I actually rather liked The Authenticity Project's writing style and characters - apart from the two alcoholics, and just hated that they wound up the best off in the ending. In Game of Thrones, the series especially, I thought the pacing was brilliant and the overarching storyline great (until it wasn't.)

Another example I'm thinking of is Game of Thrones. I loved the series when it was running, but I wouldn't ever watch after season 6 again; likewise, I couldn't get very far into the books because so much of them were lists of names and who's screwing who - literally, politically, or mortally - and I just lost interest in the overarching plot. I prefer to gush about my headcanon (the 7 Queendoms was basically writing itself once Winter suffered continental warming via the Littlest Stark) but nope, gotta kill em all too.

Yes! Specific examples if you've got em, too.

Theres a book I've read recently called The Authenticity Project which I thought had a great premise but, as much as I like bittersweet endings, killing off one of the most likeable characters - and having the main PoV female character get together with an alcoholic with the writer doing a soapbox about herself being a social media influencers character and day-mom-box-wine tippler herself just rubbed me completely the wrong way

This is brought about by a post that caught my eye of a public library that has an anti-recommendation display - "We're willing to rant about these at checkout, and here's why!" I work checkout at a fairly large library, so I have a few things to say on the matter, but what examples in media - books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, livestreams do you personally dislike yet still see the merit in?

Sticking to books, I have a few for my own reasons (The Hobbit, audiobook version of the Hunger Games, Nicholas Sparks in general, The Scarlet Letter) but I'm waiting to see if poaching the anti-recommendation display idea goes through with my administration.

Disagreed, as I tend to drop Lulu and Kimahri pretty quickly. (Still find it weird just how dodgy she is for a black mage, though.)

Fire Emblem's probably the correct answer here overall, but it doesn't hold in some games. For instance, in Radiant Dawn you're swapping parties so much and by the endgame if you're taking almost ANY of the Dawn Brigade with you you're handicapping yourself, but you're forced to have Micaiah and Sothe, and the only other decent ones of the lot (Nolan and Zihark) are because of their earth affinity giving stupid dodge - and NOT being monumentally unavailable. On the other hand, you have Path of Radiance, Sacred Stones, and Awakening, where your starter lord/Avatar + paladin can solo or duo the game.
