Communist countries can't exist. Communist societies require there be no state without a state you can't have a country.

It's a way of exploiting the mentally infirm.

As far as I know it's the second one to come to light, and this one isn't as clear cut as the other instance because there's far more circumstantial evidence than hard evidence. But... there is a TON of circumstances surrounding it that leave a lot of questions. He's not from earth. You could call Jesus an alien sortof. Anyway you are saying that aliens coming on space planes and turning into magic "bad feels" ghosts is more logical than the son of the creator of the universe defying death

Yes...it's more believable than "magic man in the sky who created everything including himself having a son who was half man half magic dude being given powers that no other man has ever had."

But a lot of world religions, even some that had no connection at all to modern society until the 20th century, have beliefs similar to this.

In response to your follow on clarification of the question - the point is that the majority of Scientologists just believe in what amounts to paid motiviational / self-help programs.

You're simplifying it far too much. Christianity isn't a 100% pure religion which was formed out of an independent mythology and which developed exclusively through a singular teaching.

Scientology is the complete opposite.

If Scientology was created back when Christianity was, and vice versa, then Scientology would probably be the more respected religion.

There's a lot of reasons why Scientology technically and philosophically could not have been created two thousand years ago.

I'm not Christian but I believe that Christianity would still be considered to be a more serious and dignified religious institution if it had arisen in the mid 20th century, predominantly since most Christian churches aren't straight up cults.

I'm not arguing whether or not it could or couldn't have been made back then. But if it was that old it would be respected more simply because it is old.

How many 21st century religions are there that people practice?

How many "21st century religions" can you even name?
How much of Christianity and its traditions are even historically Christian? It's not how the religion developed and as has already been pointed out a few times in the topic it wasn't devised and propagated by any one individual in the span of a couple years.

It's a mind-control cult that tricks you into revealing your most embarrassing secrets through "auditing" or forced confessions "sec checks" and then use it to blackmail you

This is also a very good point. 99% of Scientologists had no idea what the underlying concepts or dogma of Scientology actually were until people started breaking out of the "church" and releasing information under threat of relentless harassment and lawsuit.

To be fair, veteran suicide rates are largely due to the fact that America has had a habit of pretending that the reward for military service should be the opportunity to serve the country and nothing more.

I think a lot of them are actually just due to the same factors that drive suicide rates in the civilian world.

A study a few years ago showed that the majority of service members who committed suicide had never been to a combat zone, and many hadn't even been on a deployment. It also affects people who have been in for less than one full enlistment.

So I mean, evidence supports the idea that it really is pre-existing underlying mental conditions and alcohol abuse that contributes to the suicide rate, not necessarily the unique challenges taht come from being in the military.

Don't know if someone already said this, but two things:

1 - Things that are abundant in the US are still greatly different in other countries. For instance, McDonald's in another country might taste better or worse because of the quality of the meat, and they might have different things on the menu. It's just like how someone might drink Coca-Cola in another country even though they have their own sodas - yeah it's fun to try out those sodas, but it's also great to see how Coke with real sugar tastes (I know, they've brought back "Mexican Coke" a few years ago, but still).

also

2 - You're on vacation, you've eaten out for a few days in a row for lunch and dinner, the food's kind of expensive and you've been trying new things out the whole time. Sometimes you just want to not spend a ton of money and just eat something you're a little more familiar with to let your palette reset.

Those two points being said, I don't understand the people who go to another country and only exclusively eat fast food.

Second time, I called because this guy was driving about 20 MPH on the highway swerving between lanes and erratically using his turn signals. They switched me over to highway patrol, I started explaining everything and they hung up on me.
