That's an impressive win for Half-Life 2. Maybe FE7 is even weaker than we imagined.

I would say I wished I had been there to vote in the rankings topic, but I would have only given Zelda:TP 25th place for one point anyway. I agree that a win against Brawl next week could still give it some consideration.

Besides, I'd rather see Mega Man 2 on the list anyway, for the sake of seeing more non-Nintendo games on there.

Lots happened over the past two days, huh.... it's too bad Yoshi's Island lost. Or maybe it was good because it was the best possible result that can still please Leonhart. I do not want to face his wrath.

The matches for Week 10 really ARE good. Super Metroid vs. Final Fantasy VI.... I can't wait.

What a weird week. It will be nice to see a shake-up, though. RBY hasn't looked good for a few weeks.

Tomorrow's a BIG day. Four undefeated games are at a pretty serious risk of losing. I predict Yoshi's Island to be flattened tomorrow, resulting in an expulsion from the rankings permanently. ACII will probably sneak past the eighth Final Fantasy. Twilight Princess should win, and Ocarina of Time should lose....

Assuming Mario 3 beats Ocarina of Time, who will be voted #2 now? Will RBY somehow hang on, or will MGS3 take over? Or perhaps Mario 3?

So if Melee beats Mario 64, how many of us are willing to put it back in the top 5?

In that case I'd put both Melee and Mario 64 in the top ten, easily, but probably not the top five.... I'd reserve that for Chrono Trigger, RBY, RE4, Mario 3, and Link to the Psat, most likely (not necessarily that order).

If AC2 is still undefeated by RW2, I recommend putting it against one of the strongest games in the field.

Actually, I think it would be better to let it go undefeated for like 20 weeks facing weaklings. Then, people will start being convinced of its worthiness of being ranked! Then, in the next five weeks, pit it against five ranked games and watch it lose the next five matches. >:)

Regardless, the scale for counting votes in this contest is the way the NCAA does it with their own top 25.

Dang. Well, you can do better than the NCAA by changing it! ;)

Scenario I
Final Fantasy VI gets a vote by 10 people... however, every single one of them votes for it at #25.
Tales of Symphonia gets a vote by 5 people.... however, they vote for an average rank of #23.

FF6's points = 10 points.
ToS's points = 15 points.

I say ten votes for #25 on FF6 is worth than five votes for #23 on ToS!

Adding 5 points to each vote...(#25 = 6 points, #24 = 7 points, etc.)
FF6's points = 10+50 = 60 points
ToS's points = 15+25 = 40 points

That's more like it!

Scenario II
Final Fantasy VII gets a vote by 5 people... they all rank it at #25.
Final Fantasy VI gets a vote by 1 person... and ranks it #19.

FF7 = 5 points
FF6 = 7 points

I say FF7 clearly is more deserving of a higher ranking than FF6 in this case.

Adding 5 points to each vote by default....(#25 = 6 points, #24 = 7 points, etc.)
FF7 = 5+25 = 30 points
FF6 = 7+5 = 12 points

There we are.

Yeah, doing 5 points might be a bit too much. Since I typed that all out I might as well just post it. An extra point might do.

Here's something else to try: make a "Top 20" list using everybody's votes. Count only the Top 20 in everybody's list (ignore #21-25). Changing the scoring method so #20 is worth 1 point, #19 worth 2 points, and so forth.

See if the new Top 20 is any different! If it does, my claim might have some justification.

Still working on that balance between record/SoS and how strong I feel they really are....

1)Chrono Trigger
2)Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
3)Super Mario 64
4)The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
5)The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
6)Super Mario Bros. 3
7)Super Mario World
8)Resident Evil 4
9)Super Smash Bros. Melee
10)Super Metroid
11)Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
12)Paper Mario

15)Super Smash Bros. Brawl
16)Final Fantasy X
17)Metal Gear Solid
18)Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
19)Metroid Prime
20)Final Fantasy VI
21)Final Fantasy IX
22)Super Mario Galaxy 2
23)Super Mario Galaxy
24)The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
25)Mega Man 2

I wish the point system made the low rankings more significant. I would love to see 5 added to all of the point values or something.

DQing votes based on outliers is one way, but perhaps we could also have the option to e-mail our rankings to Leonhart instead? That would help with some of the issues.

A lot of the fun would be ruined, though... I don't think I'd want that, but I'm just throwing it out there.

Since performances against weak opponents vary greatly, I don't put any stock into those matches. RBY got like 60% against TTEWY, for instance, but I'm sure RBY is still a top three... or at least a top 5 game. Contra probably wouldn't stand a chance against FF8, yet Contra did better on Mario 64.

I hope those suspicious accounts did not prevent KH from winning. (even though I like Persona 3 more)

24. Final Fantasy VI (40)

Whoa, that's quite a leap! I think that makes FFVI the first two-loss game to make the RPI Top 25.

Looks like Galaxy 2 has finally been exposed. I'm still waiting for MGS3 and Brawl to do the same. Brawl has its first real test next week against.... Galaxy 2. Now, Super Metroid hasn't been tested yet either, but.... I have complete faith in it! That game is just too good!

Just in case you didn't think we had ENOUGH Mario games in the top 25, here's two more!

Ha, just watch SMRPG beat SOTN next week and get enough points to make it back up in the charts again, too!

Surprisingly (in my eyes), Yoshi's Island is holding up so far. If it wins, I figure Majora's Mask is just weaker than we thought. (as much as I'd LIKE to think Yoshi's Island is a Top 15 game....)

RE4 clearly has proved its worth more than MGS3 has so far. Looking at their matches, RE4 looks convincingly stronger to me, too. Compare them yourself.

For the unranked undefeated games, I would rank them in the following order:
1)Mega Man 2
2)Twilight Princess
3)Assassin's Creed II
4)Path of Radiance

I don't think CT was -too- popular when it released in 1995, but a couple years later, when FF7 was released, it caused a bit of a surge in demand for most of the SNES Squaresoft RPGs, including CT. Then, of course, with Cross's release, CT experienced another Serge in demand.
