| GhettoFlip 06/30/21 5:44:46 PM #1 | From his early pioneering work with The Birthday Party to his recent string of masterpieces, he's one of the very few artists who's never had a major dud (ok maybe one) and whose creative peak has lasted 40+ years. No period of his overshadows the others because he's been so consistently good. Heck, some people feel he's only gotten better with age. When people debate his albums, it isn't between 2-3 albums, it's more like 10. He has the highest rated albums of 2016 and 2019 (also second highest of the decade) https://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-albums-of-2016 https://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-albums-released-in-2019 Most other great artists who have 20+ year careers have relatively short classic period with a handful of excellent records then followed by years, if not decades, of poor/mediocre/forgettable albums, then may make an occasional "comeback" album once in a while. Pop punk is about 50/50. there is almost no good pop punk. 50/50? more 1/50. country has the classic great, alt country, outlaw country, etc so @Trumble is wrong. Giant_Aspirin posted... yes but only because Billy Strings is considered "country" by some and hes the best thing in music right now. there are a bunch of other bluegrass musicians doing cool stuff like Sierra Hull, The Punch Brothers (and everything Chris Thile touches tbh), Bela Flek, and others. i don't really like much rap at all and dont like any pop punk, so country wins. toadfan64 posted... Agreed. Pop Punk is about the only punk I don't mind, with Ramones, Dead Kennedy's and The Clash as exceptions. And rap, while I'm far past the whole rap is crap phase, I still ain't the biggest fan of it personally. Some artists I like, but I have to be in a mood to actually listen to rap outside of a party.
