DS version is still very good because of how well the game was designed for it. Some of the bosses use the dual screens in cool ways, and none of the other versions manage to capture that. I would say the gameplay is overall the best and deepest on DS, but I most enjoyed my time with the Switch version. I played it entirely in handheld mode with a stylus (it's still definitely a touch screen game) and while the game was easier, I still had a lot of fun with it. The expanded OST and other gameplay enhancements ultimately make me prefer that one the most.

Overall I'd say it comes down to what you're looking for the most, but the game is so great that you can't go wrong with any version really.

I sorta am. I watched the first 2 seasons years ago but never finished. Started over once they put it on Netflix. It's a whole lot better than I remember. Currently working through season 3, which is all new content for me, and it's great!

I played the first one and enjoyed it, skipped the rest until VC4. Really great sequel, and I like it way more than the first.

You generally always want to go for critical hits (headshots). Shocktrooper's are the exception who can kill from body shots, but even they're often better off going for crits. If you attack an enemy from behind, they can't dodge it, so scouts are good for flanking and popping a cap in the back of their head.

Enemies only fire at you if you run within their line of sight. Same goes for your units, so you want to position the direction your units are facing at the end of their turn accordingly (especially shocktroopers). If an enemy spots you and starts firing, you can often maintain a safe distance and keep running to turn their attention, then approach them from behind with a different unit.

If a unit (both yours or the enemy) is crouching, they can't be headshot/crit. Snipers are pretty good at picking off targets with criticals, but struggle against crouching enemies. Scouts can flank them and use a grenade to blow their cover and do some damage, or you can run them over with a tank.

Last, Command Points (CP) are really important since they give you more actions every turn, so you always want to deploy your commanders (the story characters typically, they have a CP mark next to their name).

That's all the stuff I can think of off-hand. If you run into any specific issues, I could go more in-depth.
