Kickle Cubicle (NES)

I remember renting this game as a kid and liking it. Was never able to beat it at the time.

You play as Kickle in an overhead action puzzle game where you can freeze enemies and turn them into ice blocks. You can also create ice pillars to kick an ice block toward it for positioning ice blocks. You can kick ice blocks around to solve puzzles and collect all the Dream Bags to complete a level. After you complete all the levels in a world, you do a boss fight. Some of the later puzzles are pretty tough but are very satisfying to solve.

It felt good to finally beat the game.

Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories (3DS)

I had my eye on this game for sometime and finally got around to getting it. What drew me in was it was made by the same director and team that did Hotel Dusk: Room 215

The game is really short and it can be completed in around 2 hours.
It seems this game was a "first episode" of sorts and judging how the game ended with a cliffhanger type ending, it was supposed to be an ongoing thing apparently in an episodic format.

It's a shame cause it left me wanting more.

The Little Mermaid (Game Boy)

Replay
I had an incentive to replay this again. Over at Retro Achievements, the Achievement of the Week was to beat the game without using a continue, so I did.
It's a good stripped down port of the NES version

River City Ransom (NES)
Replayed this via Nintendo Switch.
Once you get the Dragon Feet very early in the game, you've practically won.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition (PS3)

Replay.
It's been a good number of years since I last played this one.
This replay was nice cause I replayed it this time with a friend via online multiplayer from start to finish and I met up with him consistently to playthrough it together. It was even better cause he was going in blind.
Playing solo by yourself is ok like your usual Metal Gear playthrough, but with multiplayer the game is a lot more fun and easier.

Disney's Aladdin (Game Gear)

This was a pretty good version.
Nice variety of gameplay with some auto scrolling sections of running/jumping/magic carpet rides and some platforming that feels similar to Prince of Persia.

The game does a really good job of reenacting all the key scenes and lines straight from the movie with the cutscenes.

Shadowgate (NES)

Replay.
I had a really good incentive to replay this game again and it was cause it finally got a set done over at Retro Achievements.

I remember trying this game out long ago and I remember not liking it at first cause I didn't really understand the mechanics and not knowing what to do (gave up after opening the first door). Few years later, I went back to it, got really into it and fell in love with it. Ever since playing this game I started to find whatever Point and Clicks I could find (this eventually led me to Deja Vu, Uninvited and so on.)

At some point I REALLY have to stop getting sidetracked and play the 2014 remake.

Darkwing Duck (NES)

Replay
Completed the game using just the default gas gun. That was for Achievement of the Week over at Retro Achievements.

Fucking great game

It really is. I've been meaning to want to try out a hack of it where they added an extra level 8 after you beat the game's 7 levels and you get to face Nega Duck

Double Dragon (NES)

Replayed this via the Nintendo Switch.
I kinda like this take on Double Dragon, despite the supposed limitations. Yeah, lack of a 2 player co-op mode is very glaring upon first inspection. Still a fine game though. Could deal with less platforming but it was ok for variety sake's.

I'm really digging taking screenshots and clips with the Switch so far. I made a couple of clips.

I made it past the infamous wall blocks in the beginning of Mission 4 without getting hit. In most of my previous playthroughs I can at least make it past getting hit either once or twice. One time I actually lost all of my lives at this part years ago. You can bet I gave this game the saltiest of runbacks after that ordeal.

Being that World of Light is pretty long and it has Credits at the end, I would say it totally counts compared to say, going through Classic mode.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master (NES)

Replay.
I had an incentive to replay this game again. Over at Retro Achievements, there's an event that's held weekly called Achievement of the Week. Thus, AotW was to beat Little Nemo.

Good Capcom licensed game. You play as Nemo and you use Candy to feed animals to ride on/take on their forms to use their powers to find keys throughout the level. Stage 3 The House of Toys and the second section of Stage 8: Nightmare Land has got to be the hardest levels in the entire game. The Mouse form needed a lot more testing if you ask me. The hammer's hitbox on trying to break blocks with the Mouse form is a pain having to be at a certain distance to break blocks.

Stage 8: Nightmare Land is such a nice refreshing change of pace at the end with the gameplay. You no longer have to search for keys and you get to use the Morningstar (scepter) as a means of attack.

Mega Man 11 (Nintendo Switch)

Mega Man is back!
This installment has a lot going for it.
Played it on Normal and I got bodied a lot for my first playthrough. I enjoyed that feeling.

It took me a good 30 to 40 minutes to take down my first Robot Master: Block Man
I only managed to figure out 5 out of 8 weaknesses. One weapon I used on one particular Robot Master I thought I figured out turned out it wasn't the weakness but it did the job. Tundra Storm did a surprising amount of damage on Blast Man despite the fact it was not his weakness

The Double Gear System was pretty neat.It helped me out in quite a lot of situations.
Also pretty cool how it was fit into the story as well. Mega Man isn't really known for it's story but it's there and I thought it was ok.
Guard Breaking with the Mega Buster on the shielded enemies to break their defenses was satisfying.
This installment probably has one of the best set of Mid Bosses in the series IMO and they all felt challenging. The one in Impact Man's level gave me the most trouble until I figured it out.

My favorite levels were Blast Man and Bounce Man.
Favorite Robot Master: Tundra Man. "ELEGANCE!"
Favorite Weapons that stood out to me: Chain Blast (Power Gear), Bounce Ball, Block Dropper, Pile Driver, Acid Barrier

The only things I personally didn't like was the soundtrack and the final few stages. The style of the soundtrack all felt "samey". None of the tracks really clicked with me. I'll have to go back and listen to them again for a second opinion (I'll also give the instrumental themes a listen as well). Also, I felt that the final Fortress stages they were basically "phoning it in". They could of fit in at least one more level IMO.

Not sure where I would rank it in my rankings in the series but it would be somewhere in the top middle.
Overall, Mega Man 11 was pretty solid all around.

Shantae (Game Boy Color)

I played this series in a weird order.
Pirate's Curse was the first game I played in the series.
Followed by Risky's Revenge then going to Half-Genie Hero.

Was pretty nice to see how it all began.
Playing it on GBA Mode was really pleasing on the eyes. I liked how the color palette looked brighter and sharper. I can tell this game really pushed the Game Boy Color to the limit when the Game Boy Color was going out the door. Graphics and animations were pretty good.

Gameplay was good. After learning the first transformation, it took me a little getting used to on how to transform with the rhythm. It was kinda neat it had a Day/Night system ala Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest and how it affected enemies take more hits and finding optional Fireflies.

It was good stuff
