Yeah, TAS was definitely pseudo-based on the Burton movies. The Penguin is deformed, Catwoman is blonde, the Joker was a hitman for the mob named Jack Napier, and Two-Face is black.

The last season had a tradeoff in which Catwoman wore a near-identical suit to Batman Returns, but her hair was short and dark to reflect on the comics at the time.

According to the comic based on the cartoon, Catwoman stopped dyeing her hair because she found out the product was tested on animals.

What a great movie, shame it got sequels.

In all honesty, the second film probably would've been an unrelated movie if not for how marketable the name Rambo is. It's a night and day transition from a traumatized drifter at war with the police to an invincible American hero running through hordes of scummy communists.

Another thing that's completely thrown out the window is Rambo's refusal to kill. In the first movie, Rambo wounds his pursuers with the implication being that he's tired of killing. In the second movie, he wastes absolutely no time in putting an arrow through someone's skull.

My only gripe is that they keep forcing "Home" into the title. Homecoming was a cute little nod. It's not necessary to be the series theme.

I'm all for diversity and inclusion. Hollywood has had a few movies and shows with Asian leads, but more could be done.

It's funny how, back in the 90s, you could get movies and shows with Asian leads. Whereas today, you get the whole "there aren't any name actors in X demographic." Like, fucking make them. Everyone started out with their first picture. Unless you're an athlete or musician, you don't go into your first movie a star.

Why should angry emotions get to decide someone's fate? The death penalty was abolished long before I was even born where I live, and I just find it one of the disgusting things about America which claims to be the bastion of democracy and the free world. My own country sucks too of course, but the death penalty is a backwards and disgusting tool that all too often sees more use in cases of minorities.

Empathy is as much an emotional response as vengeance.

Dude this is what we have right now.

And if twelve people selected at random say the guilty should die, I abide by their decision.

Funkydog posted...
Or no death penalty at all. Whatever "system" you use, you are letting the government kill its own citizens. Add in the fact justice systems are full of corruption, racism and every other kind of bigoted police officer then you put innocent people in danger of being killed.

It simply is not acceptable and a reason why practically every modern country has outlawed it.

I understand the feeling that something objectively shouldn't exist, but I think the "will of the people" / "declining favor" system is more practical than pushing to have it changed overnight.

I will concede that racism is a tremendous problem. I'd rather have no death penalty than to have Black people sent to death and White people given life without parole.

The Death Penalty is barbaric and any American who claims to support freedom or uses the argument of having guns to "defend against the government" shouldn't stand for letting said government decide it can kill its own people.

That is a fair point. The government should not be allowed to decide who dies. The death penalty should be decided exclusively by trial-by-jury and only if it's unanimous. If 1 out of 12 people selected at random says to spare them, then they're to be spared. If all 12 call for blood, then it's the will of the people.

Today, you would be hard pressed to find 12 people at random who are all in favor of death.

Honestly, was Jyn all that flawed? I mean, it's been a while since I've seen Rogue One because it's kind of boring, but the only difference I recall between her and Rey is that Jyn simply isn't an overpowered Mary Sue, but is fairly perfect otherwise.

She pulls a Casablanca in that there's a big conflict going on and she doesn't want to get involved because it doesn't concern her.

I always like it when people bring up Rogue One because the writing in most of that movie, and the characters, were really not well done at all lol

It had a good lead character: the one the main series should've had.

Just because the overall movie doesn't work, it doesn't mean that nothing about it works.

While black guys in modern works to tend to be overfeminized more than other groups, men in general are being more feminized and submissive in the name of woke feminism.

Honestly, The Last Jedi is probably the single most transparent display of the Hollywood agenda.

The recent Star Wars films highlight "how to" and "how not to" on strong characters.

Jyn Erso is strong and capable, she has flaws, she feels relatable, and she earns her victories. Rey is simply awesome at everything.

Oh, damn. You're right.

I guess it's because there's a focus on masculinity in some members of the Black community. If progress is challenging the status quo, then I guess it would make sense to apply that to individual groups. It's perhaps a bit patronizing when laid out like that, but I see where they're coming from on this.

To be fair, Clark looks to be less masculine than usual as well.

That was never a dream of mine.

I was the geek who wanted to bring anime-style animation to the US. And by anime-style, I mean PG-13 content like blood, character deaths, coarse language, and some sexuality.

Aside from stuff like Bojack Horseman or Harley Quinn, mature animation never really happened in the West.

The governments of both nations are messed up.

There's enough land for everyone. There shouldn't be conflict. Why is an issue? Is the Jewish kid not allowed to live in the Arab neighborhood? Does the Israeli government see the Palestinian people as squatters on their land? Why can't they just have a dividing line and keep one on one side and the other on the other? Did God tell them, "Take all the land. Spare no one"? I find it hard to believe that He would say the same to both parties or even one of them.

This conflict shouldn't be a thing.

The movie tries to set an awkward tone where bizarre happenings take place and everyone is too polite to notice. On IMDb, it shares a parsley 3.9/10 rating with Batman & Robin.

What's truly bizarre is just to see talented people involved in such a bad film. Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurma star in it. Sean Connery plays the villain. The cinematography has some beautiful wide angle shots. The soundtrack is decent. The action is sometimes good. The problems of the film were almost entirely at script level and that is a rarity for a film this bad.

There's kind of a sad lesson to be had from the movie: sometimes it doesn't pay to be different. Coming on the heels of two Brosnan era Bond films and the first Mission Impossible, they needed something to stand out. And what did they choose? The juxtaposition between polite expressionless protagonists and random imagery like teddy bears and robot bees.

Gee, I wonder why that didn't work.
