Trump is saying now the country defaulting on it's debt is just psychological and there will be no consequences.

his supporters in 2016 were saying "Jobs economy dow jones"

and that's all they were saying. When asked to elaborate on those points further in the context of America's economy, no one had anything to say. It was rampant here. Like, meme-worthy rampant.

This is really why people keep voting for him, and the ones that don't still allow him to live in their heads rent-free. Everyone just wants to hear him say stupid stuff, just because it's 'awesome' and 'hilarious'.

The only time I ever listened to him was his 3rd debate against Hillary.

to that point, he was a joke candidate and I stupidly did think his approach was hilarious, but only because it was hurting other assholes like Jeb and Carson and Rafael Cruz Jr. and that other one that has an active CE account named after him but is otherwise completely irrelevant. I regret now what I was thinking then, but as soon as put on that debate, which I only did because I had a few drinks that night and I was like "well this might be fun," I realized that everything that was sharted out of donald's mouth was nonsense fake news trash that was blatantly insulting the entirety of the country. "YOU'RE THE PUPPET!!!" "THEY'RE RIPPING OUT BABIES!!" I was like "what the fuck is this dude doing? He is flailing and shitting himself with this rhetoric." I was gonna abstain from voting then. I hated Hillary too. 30 seconds of listening to donald convinced me to vote for Hillary. I learned my lesson that night. Unfortunately, too many Americans did not.

I think they were definitely setting up John Oliver to take over the Daily Show, but then that HBO money came along for him and it was just no contest.

But Jon Stewart was already planning to step back, and the Trump stuff was just such a perfect way to set up his successor that they went with whoever was the next best choice to fit, which I guess was Trevor Noah.

Its kind of a shame, Trevor Noah himself is actually pretty good, and I will acknowledge it was cool that a lot of Trevor's guests and such were a lot more minority-focused and intended to give a signal boost to cool things that needed more representation, but it just felt like Trevor was actually a good fit for the role.

I never really took to Trevor Noah, but at the same time, I had stopped watching The Daily Show regularly well before Stewart left. Most of the appeal of it happened during the Bush years for me. After that, I kinda stopped caring about politics. When donald happened, I didn't even want to see that dumb looking face or hear his lying bullshit voice, so even video making fun of him just didn't have any appeal to me.

I did watch the Daily Show for a long time though. As a teenager in the late 90s, I was drawn to Comedy Central for its edginess thanks to South Park, and I would watch anything on it. SNL and Kids in the Hall reruns, Viva Variety, Upright Citizens' Brigade, Dr. Katz, Ben Stein, stand-up based shows and The Daily Show, and this was in the Criag Kilborn era. I liked it even more when Stewart took over. What ever happened to Kilborn lol? I wanna say he had some other short lived talk show and was a side character in Old School but he fell off the map after that... Most of his commentators didn't do an awful lot either. 2 of them also kinda disappeared. Brian Ungar I know played the lawyer on Always Sunny that sometimes clashes with the gang. Colbert was the only one to really make it big and probably no surprise because he's the only one who stayed on when Stewart took over.

Why don't ye hoist the mainsail and set course for adventure, instead of squabbling like a bunch of parrots on a perch? Ye all be as dull as a rusty cutlass and twice as useless!

I've sailed the seven seas and seen more excitement in a single day than ye lot have seen in yer entire lives! So why don't ye all just walk the plank and make way for a crew of real pirates with real stories to tell?

But, alas, I suppose ye'll all just continue to sit in yer little puddles of ignorance and boredom, never knowing the thrill of a true high-seas adventure. Ye can keep yer current events, me hearties. I'll be out there living them! Aye, that be the life of a pirate! Arrrr!

Don't Trust I eye witness testimony.

The claim that eyewitness testimony is reliable and accurate is testable, and the research is clear that eyewitness identification is vulnerable to distortion without the witnesss awareness. More specifically, the assumption that memory provides an accurate recording of experience, much like a video camera, is incorrect. Memory evolved to give us a personal sense of identity and to guide our actions. We are biased to notice and exaggerate some experiences and to minimize or overlook others. Memory is malleable.

https://tinyurl.com/mnn9zvv8

Also don't trust the police, they can lie on stand and nothing happens.

https://www.dallasjustice.com/police-lie-witness-stand-know-prosecutors-keep-lists-names/

good point

my memory is not maliable. I am am exception to that rule, but it is a rule and for good reason. Most people do have unreliable and easily influenced memory. Human nature flaw :(.

You're right. Memory can't be trusted. generally, for the most part. Very frustrating.

The problem with the genuine concern crowd is that they want to worry about something incredibly rare that already has safeguards in place to address. And when presented with this information, they just go "But that would be bad though if it happened!" Sure, but a lot of crazy things that happen once in a while would be bad. The education is out there, but they'd rather tell trans people, doctors and allies what the real problems are with gender-affirming care. You get the same thing with the bathroom bills, or vaccine hesitancy. It's kind of like saying just because people have their hearts in the right place doesn't mean they should ignore the very real issue of video game addiction.

And Dee wasn't executed. He got called out for saying something ignorant to defend something ignorant and mutually came to an agreement with an organization he is still on good terms with. But chuds in this topic immediately jumped to "OMG you can't say one logical thing against the hivemind without being branded worse than Hitler and having your life ruined forever. You have to fall in lockstep or else! This will hurt the trans agenda in the end!"

This makes a lot of sense

Arrr, me hearty! Ye may disagree with me on the victor of the epic rap battle of history between Al Capone and Blackbeard, but I can respect yer opinion. After all, in the treacherous waters of the high seas, there be no right or wrong, only the will of the crew and the strength of the captain.

As ye rightly said, all confrontations on the high seas be even, and the more experienced captain and better crew will always prevail. The same can be said for the rap battle between Capone and Blackbeard. 'Twas a battle of wits and words, and both combatants gave it their all.

In the end, it be the spirit of competition that counts, me hearty. The epic rap battle of history between Capone and Blackbeard be a testament to the power of music and entertainment to unite people from all walks of life, even pirates and gangsters. So let us raise a mug of grog to the victors and the vanquished alike, and let the good times roll! Arrr!

grog sounds great! And yes. I agree with yer sentiments even if AI generated (which is no pirate's business. We leave it to speculation and in extreme case, Davey Jones figures it out for us, if ye know what I mean).
