This. I hate Facebook so this helps push Elizabeth Warren to #1 for me with Sanders & Yang in second & third.

No marks for two years, decent rep and contribution, not at odds with any mods

iirc anyway

Even simply being marked/reported, if it is no action'd by the mods? People sometimes report others for trolling just for politely disagreeing with them or simply having a different opinion.

People have replied to me with "I reported you" on posts where I simply expressed how I don't like Final Fantasy XIII with some reasons why I don't like the battle system. It was a long time ago and no moderation ever happened so I presume it got marked but no action'd.

Can being frivolously reported disqualify you?

Manocheese posted...
You can't.

Seriously, new moderators are only chosen a few times a year, and the minimum requirements for applying are very steep. Even so, hundreds apply, but only a few are selected. If you seriously want to be a moderator, you'll need to be an active, TOS-following board user for well over a year to even be considered. Pestering the current moderators or administrators to become a moderator essentially guarantees that you won't be selected.

This and usually chosen accounts tend to be ten years old or at least close to it. I would guess the less than 10 years old accounts are likely really active/known posters/FAQ & review contributors.

I care as far as preventing shooting deaths. I am against violence and I wish for a more peaceful society.

Treating incels however that might reasonably be done will lead to fewer people becoming radicalized, fewer people adopting what appears to be an extremely radical and violent belief system therefore fewer people driven to commit a mass shooting. Currently it appears that radicalization is happening at an ever accelerating rate, so it is in the interest of society to attempt to counter this.

It seems to me as though some form of intervention by society is required, or else things will only get much worse given that the frequency and severity of mass shootings is rapidly increasing over time.

Its pretty much the 80/20 rule from tinder's study. But regardless you'd think this wouldnt reflect reality becuase woman will have to settle but not necessarily.

As woman generally do not care how many partners a man had, or in some cases have. Which explains why when you watch shows like pertanity court your notice many of the man could have a handful of woman at once.

It doesn't help that the societal norm for a man's self worth is determined entirely by how many woman he has, and can f****. Otherwise man aren't thanked, validated, or acknowledged for anything else they do in life. So why push themselves to become successful when bad boys consistently prove you dont need any of that s*** to get a girl?

This is partially why more and more man are escaping to video games for the above mentioned perks, going MGTOW, or becoming incel even.

Interesting points for sure

I think the phenomenon of incels is something that should be studied by psychologists, such research could hold the potential to save lives if it might inform us in how we can better predict, mitigate or outright prevent the incidents or perhaps reduce the frequency of incels in the general population. It could lead to a greater percentage of incidents being prevented by law enforcement, perhaps it could also lead to reforming some individuals. Both of which have clear potential to save lives so I think it's worth consideration. I can relate to the idea that society owes these individuals nothing but wouldn't it be a worthwhile pursuit to potentially reduce the victim count?

@Guide posted...
Maybe before the internet, but now the common idea of an incel is, again, propagated by sites like r/braincels or /pol/.

True. But what I wonder is to what extent the people seen on places like r/braincels or /pol/ are representative of the group as a whole(including those who are not loud and vocal). How useful are r/braincels & /pol/ for getting a sense of what the average incel is like and what they believe?

There are (roughly) the same amount of single men and women. There are even plenty of women who are one beer away from sobbing over the fact that they'll never be married, blah blah blah.

But what people mean when they refer to incels is inherently male in nature, since a lot of it is rooted in gender norms.and how you're "not a man" if you aren't having sex or any other number of things that aren't actually about a relationship in the first place.

An interesting point. I am really curious why we at least appear to not see as much of the same high profile incidents from involuntarily single women and we do not appear to see the same radical beliefs appear with equal frequency by gender. For females I only know of one case, a former GameFAQ member apparently who was arrested preemptively by police. Or who knows, maybe it does happen often but for whatever reasons may be less likely to be reported by the media? Is it possible that media bias is or potentially could lead to misrepresenting this phenomenon as being basically a male only issue?

10% of men 80% of women etc

So they effectively choose to remain single due to an inability to form relationship with the upper tenth percentile of most desirable men, rather than seek someone at a similar level of stratification?

Do incels have a realistic view on life? Why is the answer no for every single one of them?

Perhaps, a lack of values and extremist views?

What I do wonder is how representative of the whole group are the most extreme/visible examples? Is there any hard data that informs us as to the extent to which they represent the group and therefore how much we can treat generalizations based on the examples as being backed by evidence.

Forming a well-researched, strongly supported profile of the group that is as objective as possible will be necessary to allow for any targeted reform to become meaningful. I agree with the common assertion that something needs to be done but I am unsure of what should be done and I believe more evidence may be needed in order to garner enough support for what may need to be significant reform. For starters, can they/should they be considered a hate group at this time? We of course know for the case of the worst examples. But what about for the overall group called incels, as a whole?

Also, wouldnt that all depend on their licensing? I'm sure if they had the right licensing they would simulcast anime. They do it with Korean dramas iirc. Also I think I have seen some anime on Netflix that were simulcast. I dont think it has anything to do with bingeing.

I've only heard of the Japanese Netflix simulcasting anime, such as they did with Violet Evergarden last year. But for everywhere else in the world, Netflix held it back until it was finished and then uploaded the whole series at once, so anyone else who wanted to watch the show as it aired had to pirate it with fansubs. Also, Netflix is literally the only streaming site that does this when they license airing anime (Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu, and even Amazon Video all upload episodes weekly) so I severely doubt that the reason they do it has anything to do with the licensing agreement itself.

True. I imagine that they are probably best to negotiate anime licensing before they air, this way the agreement can be obtained for less compared to waiting right till they're airing. Successful shows will go way up in price once they're proven to be great, probably further still if a show completes and wins some awards. If they negotiate earlier, some shows may be bad but they can probably get the good ones for less. Typical anime viewers will be in the know if a show is good or not, most of us will use stuff like MAL to keep up with what's getting made. I would suggest an opt out clause if a show gets extremely low views.

I tend to binge but one issue still is I won't know if they are going to get a show or not, I could wait only for them to never add it. It may only go on Japanese Netflix but not in the US. I think this forms a disadvantage compared to others like Crunchyroll. Violet Evergarden is a pretty good anime, could have been a positive for me on Netflix but I didn't know if it would come so I already watched it.
