I think it's okay except for the woman. The insertion of a love fling just feels totally out of place in the movie. The dinner conversation about their pride for the land at least says something about America's presence in Vietnam

When I went to NYC I had a total of 10 minutes of foot travel and in that time a deranged guy spit all over me and the girl I was with. When we got out of there he turned to another woman to attack. It was a crowded intersection and nobody did anything about it.

at least the Disney stuff. there is no substance to any of these stories. Minimal characterization and you already know what's gonna happen because the 1 dimensionally evil villain needs to get epic'd on by someone using the force. bonus if they use the force to block a cave in or explosion, which happens in obi wan and mandalorian and maybe more.

I've barely considered it to be a Vietnam movie despite it being one of my favorites. A lot of Vietnam vets apparently hate the movie because it's pretty bonkers and most of it doesn't resemble anything that happened in the war.

His quote doesn't really relate to literal depiction of the American forces or the war, but to the broader absurdity and self-contradictions of the conflict, as well as the production of the film itself.

The shit like trading fuel with the playgirls got cut for example. 3 hours 3 minutes is still damn long but the episodic structure of the film helps it be digestible.

The cinematography and performances are unbelievable, and imo the movie has so much to say not just about the experience and morals of Vietnam but the cost of war to the human and to the soul. Coppola saying "my film IS Vietnam" is one of the most pretentious things I've ever heard but I also kind of believe him
