But perhaps you should view it less as "protagonist is a thoughtful person with agency who has a goal" and more like "kid ends up in weird world, just starts exploring and meeting people and going along with whatever they're told" (as i recall, toriel and other NPCs start guiding you around and telling you what to do pretty quickly)

Yes, Ace Attorney fans should play this! It's not perfect and it can't always hide that it's a low-budget indie title but it does a lot of things well and has more memorable story and characters than any other similar indie games I've played.

and japan, in most series, tend to vote for mascot characters that americans hate. (which is why every japanese game has some non-human mascot character)

oh i guess i kinda forgot that this is international and japan does use twitter too and japanese character popularity lists tend to have some wildly out-there picks that are completely different from the english-speaking fanbase

...So it's going to be Phoenix/Edgeworth/+1, right? With that +1 being, like, Maya or Charley, maaaybe Judge or Apollo, longshot on Blackquill (is blackquill popular? i feel like he must be popular, people love edgy characters)

but i have no idea what twitter fanbase is like i guess so maybe i'll be surprised that they have some random super dedicated stan culture for someone i would never guess. if they do i guess it'd be geiru or bonny because clowngirl and bunnygirl or something.

i took a quick glance at the list on the website to try to see which 10 hadn't been in yet and i thought i came up with exactly 10 so i thought maybe i had it, but i guess i got one wrong since i missed the one in the spoiler bar. i did have these 5 though.

i like how all the writeups at this point are like "if you don't want this character to win, you're just wrong" "but then here's 13 other entries i have above them in this contest where only 3 can win"

I thought the 2.4 million was derived by multiplying the 30k per month, by the number of months they were in service. At least, I think I read that somewhere. But I doubt they were making 30k the whole time.

Well yes, but because walruses are real, we know that they don't just turn up at people's houses, because, y'know, they can't/don't do that. 0% chance. Whereas the chance that maybe what we know about reality is wrong and portals to other dimensions where fairies exist, it's still basically 0 but it's at least 0.0001%. If a fairy appeared, I'd go "wow, idk I guess this stuff exists after all" (and if it did, fairies are actually able to fly around and go to houses) whereas a walrus would be like "what. this is impossible."

it's really bad. like, all the worst parts of danganronpa gameplay, but made worse, and also more prominent.

(oh and the cases are worse too, and the contradictions you have to find are... my exact words while playing the game were "Rain Code is a game made for people who thought that catching Frank Sahwit was too hard")

a game would not be called "Judge: Toe" but could be an acronym, and Judgement is often used in game titles, so could be, like, Judge: Trial of Eternity or Judge: The Order Eclipsed or whatever

^ This is a short little flash game that is heavily zero-escape-reminiscent.

I'd also recommend Gnosia, if you can handle the Mafia-themed gameplay. (It's not even that much like playing mafia, tbh, it's more like a puzzle game than an actual social deduction)

I can't remember if you've played Ghost Trick but that's a must-play if you haven't.

Not Zero-Escape-like but 428 Shibuya Scramble is great and has a sort of similar flowchart-y gameplay loop. VN only, no gameplay besides making choices.

Well, now you're understanding more why people are down on the game. But your writeups did remind me that the game does have some good parts, I still may have been too harsh on it in my memories.

From what I recall, my biggest issue with not only the ending but a lot of the lategame stuff was, the stakes kind of dissapear once you realize the plot idea is, like, "we're going to create a timeline where people can be happy." "oh, and that replaces all the other ones?" "no, every timeline of suffering still exists, so an infinite number of people are still dying in despair even if we succeed" "oh"

I don't really remember what Delta's motives are, honestly I forgot Delta even existed, I didn't remember his name, just that he was some old man. Ending is the most forgetable part of the game, I zzz during long monologues of bullshit.

I don't think I've ever even conceived of the idea of doing character rankings for this game, it seems like sort of a pointless endeavour. Half of the characters are underused or just weird so I guess Diana and Sigma sort of win by default with a whole mess of "idk, who cares" below that.
