Song: The arranged Moonflow track r0xed my s0x off.

Boss: It's pleasant to kick Seymour's ass, given he's such a walking, talking ass. Beating him the first time was the best, especially when his people walk in and go oh ****.

Moment: I guess people would talk about the lake scene, but tbh the game's constant dark, personal emotion was a bit too much for me. I guess I'll say right toward the beginning, where Auron tosses Tidus into the future with his 'we've gotta go back... to the future' bit.

a'ight here we go:

(+) The best random battle system in Final Fantasy history. I ultimately still prefer XII's MMO style combat, but battles are tons of fun. I enjoy the way the game encourages you to swap out characters, to the point that it's pretty much essential at times.

(+) Another great OST by Nobuo Uematsu. This was my first time playing the HD version and I chose the updated soundtrack. Quality arrangements.

(+) Sphere grid is a blast. I used the traditional system. I'm unsure if I prefer it to the license system, but the constant ability to upgrade gives it more immediate satisfaction.

(+) The story satisfies its aim quite well. It sticks to themes of daddy issues, false gods, and long-term planetary calamity. If you like what it wants to be, you'll enjoy yourself.

(-) Some serious uncanny valley going on, especially in the cutscenes in which Tidus's mouth is gaping.

(-) While the story 'does what it does' quite well, it isn't exactly my favorite in the series. It's very... micromanagey. Given how superdepressing the game is, I was hoping for more of a pay-off by the time I was done.

(-) I'm not big on the corridor FF approach. (Just you wait until I do my FFXIII playthrough...)

(-) After the Jecht battle, the aeon fight is a bit of a snoozer (yes, storywise I understand what was going on there). Also, the characters literally don't have much to say about fighting Yevon--it goes right into talking about Tidus's inevitable disppearing act instead. Have Wakka freak out about spending his whole life following this spider guy's false religion, or something. Have Rikku go on a rant about all the horrors the Al-Bhed went through. That reminds me: it's hard for me to buy into the Al-Bhed being these misunderstood sweethearts who just want to end human sacrifice.

(-) It's very much subjective, but I wasn't fond of the ending. I guess they wanted to set up the sequel, which I have not played yet. I wonder if Tidus swimming like that in the end is a parallel for, like, womb water, with death being the beginning of 'new life'. Then again, what do I know? I haven't played the sequel. Yet. Who knows when I will. I own, like, 3 copies of it, anyway.

(-) You can't give me the crystals music and the main Final Fantasy theme during the end? Boo, hiss.

I think IX is the slightly better game. Both are fine, but neither is a top 5 FF for me.

The Sin boss prior to the Sea of Sorrow was at a full Overdrive meter, but I got lucky and finished it off in time. SeeMore Guano was easy because I used a guide and I'm probably overpowered.

Unless Jecht is as difficult as he was for me when I played through FFX years ago, not much more to go.

I took out the Sin fins and the version with the core. Next step is to go within, but I have a strange feeling that the next boss is gonna pwn me because I have my doubts I can take them out in 16 rounds (I didn't bother getting Anima).
