I noticed the copy and pasted ("homage") scene of Kylo leading a gaggle of stormtroopers via bird's eye view, a la Anakin in Episode 3. Doesn't do much to quell my disdain at the intentional references to the previous films.

OK, probably a little too dramatic for just one small clip. But I will say, practically the only reason I'm excited about this is to see Luke. The new characters really have failed to grow on me.

I think some people just arent very good at imagining themselves in a situation like this. Really try to imagine what it might be like to have a crazy guy with a pipe coming toward you. You could tase him bit they aren't always effective. By the time you realize your taser has failed you might be getting a pipe upside your head

How about YOU try to imagine the situation. There's no way this guy gets the drop on 2 cops, one using a tazer, the other gun drawn. That's stupid.

If the dude gets tased and is still coming at you/it doesn't work, then lethal force could be justified.

I'm not a regular in this board, but I just want to comment on these type of situations - why does America have such a big problem with police brutality? It doesn't not exist here in Canada, but it's less common and if it happens it's widely reported and condemned.

Poor police training nation-wide, and too much leeway on what can be determined as a reasonable threat. This mostly started with the Republican push back in the late 80's/90's to get "tough on crime", and it's basically built a culture of "us v.s. them" and gross ineptitude.
This would likely not be an issue if they were actually punished for it, but cop shootings are rarely investigated as murder, and it's rarer still to get a conviction. The courts being very cop-friendly (due to them working together) aggravates the issue. So rarely is their punishment, even for the most blatant of violations.

The entire system is basically broken from the ground up.

he's deaf, not autistic.

it's not hard to understand that when a cop points a gun at you, to drop your weapon and not walk towards them with it

That's fair, but not what you originally said.

HellHole_ posted...
you tend to focus on the immediate threat and ignore random people screaming. this is a human thing. everyone does it.

Lame, cop-out answer. You can't honestly believe that. A dude with a random pipe 15 feet away from 2 cops with guns is not enough of a threat that the cops become deaf themselves.
Plus, they are cops. They are literally trained* (*correct, are SUPPOSED to be trained) to handle situations like this, and deescalate them. That's a piss-poor excuse.

because this is what they've been trained to do. you absolutely do not engage in physical combat against a target if you absolutely do not have to. they did not have to. this is because you have no idea what they may or may not have on them.

And herein lies the problem. Yes and no. PROPER training would result in non-violent methods behind used first. A tazer is a ranged weapon, no need for physical combat.
Unfortunately, too many police these days think their lives are uniquely more valuable than others, and will resort to guns first at the slightest sleight, when proper training says to resort to it last.
HellHole_ posted...
because they didn't need it, and yes, the dude brandishing a weapon and walking towards them is absolutely an immediate threat.

it's pretty much the definition of an immediate threat.

No, it isn't. If the dude RUSHED them, then fine, fair. Are the cops incapable of backpedaling? There's no way a deaf dude with a pipe is an immediate threat to 2 trained cops with a guns drawn. This harkins back to treating cops like special snowflakes, who apparently have no other training but to shoot to kill. There is absolutely also no reason to believe he was coming forward at all. Keep in the mind, the only person who reported this was the Police captain, who wasn't even there. Sorry, but the testimony of cops these days should be taken with a grain of salt, if not outright suspicion.
HellHole_ posted...
pot kettle black.

Quite ironic, since you failed in every way imaginable here.
The cops did not exhaust all their options, ignored information that might have changed the outcome, and didn't have a legit reason to shoot on sight.

This is pretty cut and dry to non-apologist. Nothing more need be said.

they didn't shoot first though. they told him to put his weapon down. he did not comply and then started going towards them.

I imagine that's because he was deaf, or did you fail to make it past the topic title?

The torch-carrying for cops is mindblowing. So quick to blame the victim, when it's obvious the cops were at wrong here.

Why they ignore the neighbors literally SCREAMING at the cops that the man was deaf?
Why did they resort to guns when they tazers, batons, mace, and outnumbered the dude, not to mention grappling training?
Why didn't they call for back-up, and wait for said back-up? A deaf dude with a lead pipe isn't an immediate threat.

It's astounding how stupid or morally bankrupt some of you are.

The police situation in this country is so woeful.

Naw it's the crime situation bro. America has far more issues with violent crime than most of the developed world. Cops have a much more dangerous job in America than they do in most of Europe or Asia

lol no. That's propaganda they say to justify their brutality. There was no "crime" in this case, and there were numerous ways this could ended without the guy dead. I question why they even put police through training, when they just shoot first and ask questions later these days.

There's no way a kid even saw that, and even if they did, there's no way they could know what that means. It would probably look like some innocuous etchings on tree bark to them.

I mean, when zoomed in it IS hilariously blatant. It's a long-standing tradition for cartoonist to slip stuff like this in, especially kid-friendly shows.

Is that Assassination Classroom any good?

The manga is one of the best series JUMP has had in a long time.

The main reason is that it ended at the right point and wasn't plagued by horrible padding and dragging on for too long that other JUMP series usually do.

Another point is that it establishes a distinct and clear goal right from the start, and every arc builds upon each other in order to reach that goal. So you get a clear sense of progression as you read it.

Thirdly, the characters are all memorable and distinct. Unlike say, Bleach, where every arc introduces upwards of 20 new characters that either get killed or forgotten every time; it focuses on one classroom's students and their interactions, so each character gets a "moment to shine" and fleshes them out as unique indiviudals.

And lastly, it's just unique! Where else can you find a manga about a moon-destroying tentacle monster crossed with GTO, training up a class of high-schoolers as assassins in order to eventually kill him?

You should definitely check it out.

Yeah, the weird-ass premise is what has me interested. I'm pretty selective when it comes to my manga.

How's the anime?

Eh, while I think they have the look down I think her character is a little too bitchy. Jessica in the source material wasn't so much a bitch as she was a calculated person with a short temper for people who messed with her. For example, In the Defenders when she gets bailed out of the police station by Matt, the source material Jessica thanked him, then immediately did a check to make sure Matt was really a lawyer. NCU Jessica immediately distrusts him and insults him.

This. I still can't believe how many people liked JJ. That show took me like 5 months to finish, mostly because it's short on action/fights, the "detective" work is anything but, and side-kick characters are forgettable at best, annoying at worse, and most importantly...JJ is a completely unlikable character. Yes, I get WHY she's so pissed, but being an uber-bitch all the time still makes you a bitch. And just like how everyone pointing out how lame IF is all the time doesn't make him any better, everyone pointing out that JJ has no character besides 1-D angst doesn't make it better.

On topic...NO one beats Iron Man 2 ScarJo. Emil VanCamp is pretty foxy, too.

But damn. It's a toss-up for Elektra and and Debrah Ann Woll for me. I have a RAGING hard-on for redheads, but for some reason, it took me a while to warm up to Karen (maybe too skinny), but that pic posted is fire. Elektra is just amazing.

TC sounds like a petulant child.

Or butthurt he got modded.

I'm curious what he wants to be done making it more "adult-friendly", especially after they allowed swear words. Besides straight up allowing links to porn or something, what would make it more "adult."

This seems to be like one of those situations where people misunderstand what the word "mature" means, like the M rating on a video game box. Being able to see boobs and hearing cursing isn't mature. Being able to act like a calm and competent human beings is. Mentally and emotionally mature, basically. And you're kidding yourself if that describes the outright majority of people here. Ever since they relaxed trolling rules here years ago, some boards have basically become unbearable to go to. And that's just trolling.

We all have horror stories where a mod clearly fucked us. But a modless message board renders a place a wind-blown hellscape like Reddit or other boards, and I really don't want that.

Also also, I've been playing Splatoon 2 all weekend, and it's probably the most fun I've had with a video game in the past few years. I've been itching for a good competitive game for so very long, and I finally found one that I absolutely adore.

I just started this, too. Loving it, it picks up where the fun left off in Splatoon 1.

Finished the War of the Chosen expansion for XCOM2. God, I love that game. Working on some smaller indie Steam games in my backlog (I have one more week off before jumping onto another show).

I'm surprised to see how much people care about Destiny 2...I thought the consensus of the first game was it was filled with too many empty promises and unfulfilled potential, and was filled with microtransactions.
