Bruh have you ever even lived in a super poor community? 6 is exaggerating but I see soooooooo many women with no jobs and 2 - 3 kids getting their food paid for, their monthly rent paid for, and getting child support on top of all that. Adding on another 2K per kid would be ridiculous and they would just buy themselves purses and clothes anyways. It's a vicious cycle and the more free shit they get the less incentive they have to act like adults.

I guarantee that you've never had to be on food stamps in your life.

I wouldn't be surprised if researchers are more desperate to make their mark by coming up with new terminology.

This, redundant jargon, definitely happens but I'd say it's less motivated than you are suggesting. There's just a large amount of literature, and people are forced to be pidgenholed into one subfield. So when a related subfield finds some phenomenon, people in other fields are unlikely to actually read it or be aware of it.

Reading scientific papers is definitely a learned skill. Also, skill transfer is only partial, start reading in a different field and your rate of reading and understanding plummets again.

There's an interesting paper that pretty convincingly shows that not only the amount of jargon has increased over the years, but the complexity of the general language has increased too.

Take this simple fucking step you old dumb fuck.

Decriminalization is far more important that legalization in that regard, no?

In terms of lab facilities? Yes, even bigger given the increasing population of scientists.

Damn_Underscore posted...
And if so, would the colleges be able to afford to sustain themselves if all those students weren't paying tuition?

Probably only if grant funding were far, far more available, which is not going go happen any time in the future.

Research institutions that operate like that typically are contingent on continued grant funding from the PI, as far as I understand it.

Most reasonable people can see that Biden is really just fine. The debate would be fine, but would in the end be meaningless. Biden would discuss policy, Trump would fart into the microphone, and Trump fans would declare victory.

Idk, Nixon didn't hold children in what wouldn't pass for internment camps to punish immigrants and stoke flames of racism.

I think these types of 'who's worse?' conversations are mostly stupid. How are you evaluating 'worse'? Even if you had criteria, how do you compare across these types of very different events?

I think both suck, and people who try to do these comparisons are usually doing so for some underlying political reason.
