The Chewbacca fake out was just handled unbelievably badly, it felt like something out of a children's cartoon.

Most of the problems in RoS had little to do with TLJ, at least directly. Finn (and by extension Rose) were probably the part most badly affected that would have been difficult to course correct. But I think a lot of it came down to JJ (or whoever) being unwilling to adapt their own prepared ideas with what had already happened in TLJ. Which makes the whole trilogy feel zig zaggy, and made ROS in particular feel like an over packed mess.

People overstate how much of OT Star Wars (and Disney Marvel) is planned in advance but it never felt like the movies were fighting with each other. This feels like a callback to the old EU where you have Luke being shipped with different characters depending on who is writing.

I didn't have a problem with this. It's a natural extension of what were introduced to in TLJ, builds gradually in importance until the oh shit moment during the climax, and is integral to the plot and not a huge asspull like the force healing or anti fleet lightning.

We're always going to see new Force Powers introduced, this was the best way it could have been done.

It was likely his true face all along. The dark side corrupting your appearance is a thing, and his appearance is consistent with that (the eyes for example). I don't know of any other example of lightning deforming a character like that.

It's possible that the lightning breaking his illusion was unintentional and he just ran with it. The new canon suggests after the initial attack he concealed his appearance in propaganda during the dark times.

Thats not even true, living tissue is an important part for the force, and after getting all his limbs cut off he was weaker than he would have if he didn't lose his limbs, he still learned how to master it but he was in a pretty big disadvantage to palpatine mostly because he was weaker in the force, pre burned Anakin is his most powerful form unless you wanna talk about a hypothetical future Anakin that didnt lose all his limbs and get burned badly all over his body, including his insides he would have been the true chosen one and make yoda and palpatine look like chumps
