Here is a short story from way back when I was in H.S.

Her dad dropped us both off at my house and said "So what are you two going to do today?" to which I said "I don't know, probably just hang out in my room or something". He goes: "That's the wrong answer".

Moral is: No, don't text her dad.

I had to tell somebody about it because I'm a big dork. Finally something friggin' good on this damn slot machine of a game!

Well heads up in case you guys grab Dark Souls (it's still 50% off for another day I think)-

I grabbed it yesterday and for whatever reason they reversed the cancel / action buttons on Switch from what they were on the XBOX and PS3 / 4.

So it's "B" (or what's normally cancel) for action, "A" (or what's normally action) for cancel / backdash - roll. It's friggin's stupid and I hate it. Now to be fair, you can remap these in the options however there's still plenty of places on the game menus and etc where you have to go back to the crappy, reversed button layout.

Fighting and etc feels good again, but having to equip shit and anything in the inventory is weird asf still. I figure I should mention it as my good deed of the day or something.

Not to mention if the Lite gets drift - a problem the Switch / Lite are prone to - you have to send your whole system in just to have it fixed instead of just sending in the separate joycons.

When I first started playing bass (the first few years) I used to have big combo amps and they were a pain in the ass to take to gigs. Worse, we used to practice in the basement of the drummer's karate studio so taking anything upstairs was done through this really narrow hallway and it sucked.

After that I decided any other big amps were going to come with wheels, dammit. Wouldn't help going up stairs of course but everywhere else you just roll it around and it's so much better.

After about a year and a half it's finally DONE. Ahhhhhh!!!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1630690/

Story:
When an evil wizard writes a 6000-page book to bore the townspeople to death, it's up to you to take the damn thing and return it FROM WHENCE IT CAME. You play as either Warrior, Thief, Wizard, or Cleric and journey through several different areas on your way to the evil wizard's tower.

About:
The main focus for this game was to create a fun roguelike with an easy to use control scheme. Speaking for myself as a player, I am often intimidated by the sheer complexity of many roguelikes where I'm always consulting the commands help trying to figure out what does what.

To this end, EQ2 is played almost exclusively with just the arrow keys to move around and the space bar to interact with different objects or circumstances. Moving on top of or next to something that can be interacted with and pressing the space bar will call up a context menu with any possible options you can perform, or automatically perform a minor action if there's only one possibility.

You can access the in-game helpful tip menu by pressing "H", wait a turn by pressing "W", "I" which opens your inventory, "S" which shows your status and skills as well as any current effects going on, and lastly "ESC" which lets you quit and save for next time.

Combat:
Fighting in the game is done mostly through running into enemies and triggering a 1st person battle. Combat options are determined by your class skills as well as the equipment in both of your hands. A sword for example has a move called Aim Slice which is more accurate but less damaging. Mace-type weapons can smash and reduce enemy armor. Rapiers let you dodge and have a passive where you'll automatically riposte the enemy after blocking with a shield. You can carry a shield and defend yourself, which also recovers stamina needed to perform these battle actions. You can even read The Warren Peace itself and put yourself to sleep for a turn! Etc etc, I shouldn't spoil it all here!

Additionally, upon reaching higher levels you'll be able to auto kill some weaker enemies just by bumping into them. I figure they're trivial for your guy by that point so it made sense to have it this way.

Equipment:
EQ2 has a heavy focus on making the stuff you wear or smash monsters with as interesting as possible. You can find hundreds of different pieces of gear and most of these can be upgraded up to three times each. A recent addition to the game is the Runic modifier, which can randomly appear on any weapon coming out of a chest. These can not only augment piddly weak-ass weapons like a knife but also a powerful unique axe. To give you some examples, you can have a knife that makes chests spawn more often, a club that increases enemy loot drop %, a sword that has a firey strike chance, a magic battleaxe that any class can use, etc.

So gear is divided up into- Common, Rare, Unique, Runic, Enemy Drop, and Heroic. Heroic gear is so good that it can't be upgraded further. You'll know if you've found one as it has a flashing green name tag. Enemies drop gear you can't really get elsewhere so between all of this it helps keep the game fresh.

Demo:
If you are curious, there's also a free demo on the store page you can try. It's not as up to date as the full game however it will for sure give you a good idea on what's up and if you might like it or not. The demo lets you play as the Warrior through the first two areas (Temple & Desert).

Any questions please ask away of course!

Yeah man, same here. Some of the girls we hung out with liked grunge a lot (one would just go on and on about friggin Mike Starr from AiC, Jesus Christ it was annoying) but me and my buddies were into Rush, Megadeth, and old (not the black album) Metallica. I beat the first DKS1 a few times, I beat DKS2, but I don't know what it is but it's like your guy in DKS3 moves like the one in Bloodborne only you don't have the HP regain on counterattack mechanic. It seems like every enemy is way too aggressive and take a ton of hits to kill. And I even had really good weapons (Spiked Mace +9 / Dorthys' Gnawing spell, etc). But the thing about From games is what's impossible for one guy is easy for the next. The Watchers I think I died more than 30 times total easily. The Dancer took me a couple days. Eff those guys. But Pontiff Sulihan or w/e he is I beat on the second try, and that boss is supposed to be super difficult for many.

My two favorites are Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne, but since Elden Ring doesn't look nearly as clunky as DKS1 (and I mean that in the best way) go Bloodborne.

It is, although I admit that it is almost "too good", as in they really should have made the interface more console friendly. That is why I like playing the PC version more.

I think as far as console ports, 3 and 4 on the NES were really good. I pretty much always prefer them over their PC counterparts.
Yeah I actually wrote (crappy) reviews for both NES games here like 15 years ago. Quest of the Avatar is really good, I like that one a whole lot. Not understanding how the starter questions worked, I ended up being a Druid the first time through.

They completely break your make your character. Stuff like "Can no longer evade, immune to stuns" - that's stuff people poop their pants over in other ARPGS

They had me up until item crafting

Yeah I have since fallen out of love when games have such a big emphasis on crafting (from what it looks like, this will too). It's even seeped itself into Animal Crossing, ick. Now it's like every game has to include it but I find it a turn off.

I think Wizardry 5 might be my overall favorite. It has all the mechanics of the first one but looks a lot better. Plus it doesn't have an elevator that pretty much everybody used to skip half the dungeon (you all did this right, guys? ..Guys?)

My wife loves these guys. The music isn't really what I normally like but yeah that dude can really sing his ass off. I'd be amazed if he doesn't eventually seriously damage his vocal chords if he hasn't already.

7th Saga

I came here to say this. Super difficult, I only managed to win it once with the blue knight guy.

There are mechanics involved in the game where leveling up actually starts putting you at a big disadvantage, as your main competition (your rivals / the other character choices at the start) and I think bosses are always a higher level than you are. So they'll gain skills and spells that are really strong while you don't as quickly.

On the PC side, Ultimas 2, 3, 5, and 6 are pretty difficult

Ultima 6 on the SNES was pretty hard too. It's a really good port if you haven't played it.

EDIT: I saw someone mention the Might & Magics. Part 2 I found to be crazy tough to figure out where to go. That game is just huge.
