Most of the newer ones felt linear Didnt like the wolf parts, and a few other things. That said, I love Majoras Mask. I personally never really felt the pressure of the Tome Limit. Not too mention slowly it down and the reset gave plenty of time to do a lot. But it depends on how you played. Apparently, it use to be possible to get a perfect playthrough. I just did one section at a time, though Oh Jesus how could I have forgotten those terrible find the light balls sections as a wolf?? So boring! I went to a Rush show many years ago and they had Alexs guitar turned up to 11 for some songs and you could barely hear half the drums (which for Neil is still like 20 drums lol) it was unbearable without earplugs. Would I want to hack RPGs such that all rare items are dropped by monsters 100% of the time? Even more to the point, would I even want to have an option that let me do that? It would be convenient, but not really: no. There's satisfaction associated with getting something that's hard to get, and I would hate to get that stuff then think "I could have just turned on the dumb option and gotten this in 2 minutes". (Although, yes, some drop rates go overboard and it's frustrating if it's tied to an item you NEED, but I'm not talking about that) "Rarer" weapons in BotW are somewhat easier to appreciate. Don't get me wrong, though, per my first point I'm not saying I love how they implemented the breaking mechanic. I just saying I can - to an extent - appreciate cycling through weapons as opposed to murdering everything with the Master Sword. It's funny but I thought I'd hate the durability thing a lot more in BotW, but I mean they throw so many weapons at you all the time it's never really an issue for me. That being said, if weapons didn't break I'd ignore almost all of those so in a way it kind of forces you to try new things out which is kind of cool. EDIT: Honorable mention- The trend over the last 10 years or whatever for games that are designed for 100" TVs but still use size 4 fonts. It didn't help that the villagers were super bland up until the very latest patch or that all of the holidays are not included in the core game (they have to be downloaded during certain times, which is crap). All the random islands you can visit are boring and dull, and there's no awesome mini games you can play there. Add to that now you have to craft basic tools just to do anything - and they break all the time - and it just doesn't cut it with me. And you can't even collect all the fruit without visiting other players! It sounds dumb, but it shouldn't depend on multiplayer for something basic like stupid fruit. Pretty much the only things it really has going for it are better graphics, a way better museum, and that you can put stuff outside now. It lacks in nearly everything else. If upgrades happen on a per item basis, either is fine and you should go with whatever you prefer. Upgrading is only done through two items- Dust (not super common, but you'll get them while playing) and a gem which turns anything into the +3 version right away and is pretty rare. More info seems like the way to go. adjl posted... If there are a lot of tiers, having all of them displayed at once may be overwhelming, so there's a case to be made there for presenting a simplified version, but it's still generally good to make sure the players have the information needed to decide what they want. In that case, if the stat gains are linear (as they seem to be here), you can do something like saying "+1 dmg, +2 acc per level" and include a list of breakpoints after which new stats get introduced, e.g. "Lvl 3: +2 luck, +1 per level." If you're only got three levels, though, that should be fine Yeah it's pretty much linear for the most part- there are some exceptions like a +3 version gaining a modifier that the other tiers didn't have (like the item drop %modifier in the example shown w/ the clover). Some other tiers use the integer amount of a decimal per upgrade, rounded down (ex. +1.4 becomes 1) so you'd have something like (1.4 + 1.4 + 1.4) = attack +1 (1.4), attack +2 (2.8), attack +4 (4.2). Black_Crusher 12/01/21 10:41:23 AM #1	Hello I've been working on making a small preview window whenever you go to upgrade your weapons and stuff in a game, however I'm not 100% on how much to show the player. There are 3 tiers of boosted stats at +1, +2, and +3 and currently when you select "upgrade" the window will pop up with only the next tier's stats showing. This works great, however I wonder if I should show every tier all the time. Like to give the player the heads up on what his weapon will be able to become if he keeps upgrading it down the road. Example 1: Example 2: In both examples a normal, un-upgraded weapon has been selected and would become a +1 version. The +1 version's stats are highlighted by a flashing blue outline thing.
