Tucker Carlson is a fartknocker and I'm not afraid to say it

edit - where did that term even come from

English word fartknocker (referring to a contemptible person) comes from English fart and knocker. Its recorded use dates from the 1970s but it gained popularity in the 1990s, partially due to the popular influence of Beavis and Butthead

It seems there is no deeper origin.

B&W are fairly forgettable. But the second games give a lot of diversity in team selection and are the last games before the exp share controversy. Technically they are the only games with a hardmode as well, which really should be standard for all of the games.

This is what happens when you don't use the death penalty properly and shut down the mental institutions....

People already covered you lie about the death penalty, I'll cover your lie about mental institutions.

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/05/truth-about-deinstitutionalization/618986/

Its not the case that the majority of people with mental illness were suddenly on the streets when institutions closed: Even in 1950, only about a third of people with mental illness were living in psychiatric hospitals and other facilities. More than half already lived in communities, with family or on their own.

Furthermore, the vast majority of incarcerated people with mental illness belong to a subset of the population that likely would never have been served by state psychiatric hospitals in the past. State-hospital patients were largely white and middle-aged or older, and divided roughly evenly between men and women; todays incarcerated population is largely young, male, and not white. (More than half of the U.S. prison population are people of color.) One study suggests that closing the state psychiatric facilities increased the incarcerated population by less than 10 percent.

So what accounts for the extraordinary levels of mental illness we see in our jails and prisons? In large part, the sheer number of incarcerated people. In a July 1971 press conference, President Richard Nixon declared a war on drugs, calling drug abuse Americas public enemy number one and setting the stage for tough-on-crime policies. These laws, like mandatory minimum sentences for possession and other drug-related crimes, disproportionately affected people of color and pushed incarceration rates to record levels. Between 1972 and 2009, the prison population alone grew 700 percent.

Among the allowed documents are police arrest records. It's interesting and even ironic that the very vehicle which allows these stories to be easily available created a character who is now the butt of late-night jokes.

This isn't your first time talking to a conservative. They don't engage in genuine arguments, they fabricate an argument they wish to debate against. It's because they don't have a legitimate point. The US has a gun problem, objectively, so they just regurgitate some nonsense because there is no method through which they can attempt to argue we don't have a gun problem otherwise.

Well... there kind of was, it just wasn't talked about as much. The last time the US murder rate was below 4.0 per 100k (i.e. where every other developed country currently sits) was the turn of last century. It climbed steadily from ~1910 to the 1930s, when it nearly reached 10.0 per 100k, then dropped to roughly half that level during the war years, where it stayed (minus a brief spike in 1945 when the troops came home) until the mid 1960s, when it started climbing again.

That mid-60s mark is probably the genesis of the current gun crime wave, as the homicide rate soared in the 1970s and was persistently high throughout the 80s and 90s, fluctuating between 8.0 and 11.0 per 100k. So, believe it or not, the current era actually represents an improvement (but don't get too excited - homicide rate has been on the rise for the last five years).

Notably, however, the 1970s was also the point where the NRA dropped its role encouraging responsible gun ownership and safe gun handling (believe it or not, it used to be highly regarded for its gun safety stances) and moved to its current aggressive "pro-gun everything" status. The Republicans, similarly, shifted to a very anti-regulatory stance and gun control legislation that had uncontroversially been on the books for years was steadily stripped away, with deadly results.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93crime_hypothesis
Proponents of the leadcrime hypothesis argue that the removal of lead additives from motor fuel, and the consequent decline in children's lead exposure, explains the fall in crime rates in the United States beginning in the 1990s.[18] This hypothesis also offers an explanation of the earlier rise in crime in the preceding decades as the result of increased lead exposure throughout the mid-20th century.[19]
