I ended up buying the Chandra Spellbook and my foil was Young Pyromancer. Not great but also not terrible. Just glad I didn't get Cathartic Reunion.

I also got a prerelease kit too, seeing if some of my friends want to play so I haven't opened my packs yet but my promo was a Temple of Malady, which again isn't great but that's life I guess.

I haven't played the game yet (I very much intend to, though) but I have a question for folks who have dug into it. How do you feel the game handles the ludonarrative dissonance between the overall theme of the game and the gameplay? That stuff drives me bananas when it's not done well and some of the gifs/clips I've seen of the gameplay look legitimately awesome and fun, which is great in a bubble but seems to run rather contrary to the game's stated mission of making violence seem horrific.

Violence is horrific but I think that in this case we have to make a distinction between killing and murdering. The Last of Us is a world where violence and death is a constant thing and it's very much normalized. Killing people in order to survive is fairly accepted. I think they did a good job in portraying that the murdering of others for non-survival reasons is something of a different beast.

Yea, the game isn't perfect but it's still really good. I think what is most impressive with me is that they came off such a high from the first game, which honestly, was a fairly straightforward game, and took a pretty big risk in crafting a more complex story and presenting it in a different way.

I personally think they did really well.

Ending thoughts:

At first I wasnt sure if I wanted Ellie to kill Abby during the ending scene but it makes sense that she didnt. Its thanks to Lev that Abby didnt kill Ellie and (I forget her name already). Plus if Ellie had killed Abby, Lev would likely try to find her, continuing the chain of revenge. And if she were to kill Lev at that moment, the guilt would probably get to her because he wasnt any part of the group that killed Joel.

Yea, I think ultimately this is a story of anger and forgiveness. Ellie wanted to forgive Joel for what he did but she couldn't. She ended up forgiving Abby at the end to break the cycle of revenge but the journey that led her to that decision cost her everything.

Beat the game last night. Overall thoughts below.

Thought the game was pretty good. I think the storytelling aspect of the perspective switch was really well done. I went from absolutely hating Abby to sympathizing with her. By the end I really didn't know how I wanted the story to end. The gameplay felt fun, I loved the extras they added from the first game but by the end I felt like it was a bit tedious. The story itself was good but I think I needed a giraffe moment to balance out the bleakness of it all. The museum flashback was wonderful and it was well needed, but I thought something like that near the end would've been nice too.

I normally spend a solid 2.5 - 3 hours of my day commuting. Back in March when I first started working from home I missed being in the office but now that I'm used to it I can't imagine having to deal with that commute again.

I do miss the people still though, but there's no chance everyone will be back in the office at the same time again anytime soon so it doesn't really matter.

You know I never actually considered using poison against Hell House, probably would've made the fight a lot easier.

I was also mildly surprised when it started to spawn new enemies on Hard. Didn't think this one one of those games that actually had the enemies change up their movesets/behaviours on different difficulty levels, despite it being pretty minor.

I typically just use it for browsing the internet, but I'm interested in the tablet aspect for the possibility to practice drawing. I don't think the graphics card is too important, the highest quality game I would maybe play is mass effect 2.

You can also look into proper drawing tablets. The Wacom ones come to mind. It might be cheaper to get a laptop + drawing tablet rather than getting a tablet/laptop combo. The only downside is that there's a disconnect between where you're drawing and looking but you'll get used to it.

If you're playing old games then you don't really need a dedicated graphics card.

The tablet + laptop combos are pretty nice. I have an older Microsoft Surface Pro for work and it's pretty cool to use, but they are a bit expensive.

What do you normally use your computer for? What kind of games do you play? Graphics cards are an expensive component of your computer and if you don't really game that much on it then you could probably opt to get a lower end one.

This. Plus the dance itself was a fun sequence.

I think Chapter 9 is also great but the collapsed highway section is definitely one of the low points of the game. The high fives are absolutely wonderful though.

It has so many stages and parts of the battle where it's immune, you really have to pay attention to fight it efficiently.

Finally got the platinum trophy for this. I definitely felt the itch too, after being the game the first time I almost felt an immediate itch to go and replay it on hard.

Hard mode was fun. The entire game wasn't too difficult but hard gave it a bit of a challenge, which was nice. I think the hardest boss for me was somehow Hell House. I think I died to it the most in both my normal and hard playthroughs.

I paid the 20k gold to enter the Arena Open with my Keruga Fires deck. Went 3:3 so it wasn't worth it, but it was fun.

First loss was a fair loss against mono green. Second loss was against a guy who managed to get two Leyline of Combustions in his opening hand, which made removal very painful. Was one turn away from taking it but he managed to finish me off. Last loss was some crazy Winota shenanigans. He played Winota turn three because of his goose, swung with an elf, managed to get an Agent of Treachery out which stole a land, bringing me back to one land. Turn after he swings with the team again, gets two more Agents, and takes all my lands.
