Which side should have the freedom of speech? Choosing either one is, as far as I see it, effectively saying the other side shouldn't have their freedom of speech. I don't see a way both sides can both have their freedom of speech without resistance.

This isn't about you being pro-gay or anti-gay, just which side should have the freedom of speech to be who they are. You could be pro-gay but say those against homosexuality shouldn't have their freedom of speech restricted even if it means gay people are having their freedom of speech restricted as a consequence.

Hope I phrased that properly. I'm not American so my idea of freedom of speech may be different to actual American's idea of freedom of speech.

A rape victim’s brother has been ‘given permission’ by village elders to rape the attacker’s sister as punishment.

Chief Saeed Patwari allegedly allowed Mohammad Ashfaq to rape the 17-year-old to avenge the rape of his sister, 13, by Omar Wadda.

Such ‘honour’ crimes are still common in some parts of rural Pakistan but now Mr Patwari has been arrested for allegedly sanctioning the rape.

Amnesty International has urged for a ban on such village councils that incite to crimes against women.
In multiple raids over two days, police also arrested 23 councilmen over the same case, according to the spokeswoman, Shabina Kareem.

A village council in 2002 ordered the so-called ‘honour’ gang rape of Mukhtar Mai, a young woman who took her rapists to court. That case gathered international prominence and she later opened a school for rural girls.

In this latest case, a regional police chief and some other officers were fired for their belated response after the first rape took place in the village of Raja Pur, near the city of Multan, on July 16. The second rape followed two days later.

‘We will do justice with the both victims,’ said Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab province, during a visit to Multan.

Kareem, the police spokeswoman, said Ashfaq was still at large but Wadda has been arrested and charged with raping Ashfaq’s sister.

The victim’s cousin asked for the case to be referred to police but elders wanted to deal with it ‘in line with the traditions of the village’

Residents in Raja Pur stepped forward with shocking details about the council meeting and how the case of the rape was common knowledge.

Mohammad Bilal, a cousin of the 17-year-old rape victim, described how the council declined the family’s request to turn to the police, instead seeking to do justice in line with traditions of the village – and order the second rape.

Nadia Rahman, Amnesty’s campaigner in Pakistan, appealed on Islamabad to crack down on the so-called village councils that prescribe horrific crimes against women, often in revenge for acts committed by others.

She said Pakistan’s failure to protect women against the arbitrary and cruel decisions of village and tribal councils had been subject of longstanding scrutiny by United Nations’ human rights bodies.
Tahira Abdullah, a top human rights activist, condemned the rapes and said that what the council did was illegal. She demanded stern action against all who sanction such crimes.

Officials in Kot Mubarak forced the child to wed the man after his uncle claimed her family had abducted his wife and children.

Police have arrested four people over the wedding and are searching for up to a dozen others, including the cleric who conducted the ceremony and the leader of the council, in the Dera Ghazi Khan district of Punjab, in eastern Pakistan.

The council was called on to settle the dispute after Budha Khan complained the girl's uncle Haji Muhammad kidnapped his three children and their mother on 6 July, The Express Tribune reported.

Authorities decided the nine-year-old must wed Mr Khan's nephew under the cultural custom of vani, in which a young girl is forcibly married as a part of a punishment for a crime committed by her male relatives.

The practice was banned in 2005 but still continues illegally in parts of Pakistan.

That's right, they are seeking to prosecute the five year old girl for doing something she was way to young to understand and most certainly, coerced into doing.

They are really fucking up any semblance of justice and far play.

Which is why I say they need educating. The hard way if necessary. But just those men who would do this sort of thing. I don't know what percentage of the islamic faith would A) think its appropriate to marry underaged girls or B) charging underaged girls for being coerced into such a thing.
