So really it should be added that you only should if it is legally necessary in your state. The states where I was talking about it isn't. So I don't see how my beliefs are so wrong. You stated repeatedly before being shown the facts that one doesn't have to inform the police they are armed. That was you being assertive in your belief even though it was wrong. You then said no routine stop is going to ask, which is also wrong. Just because it hasn't happened to you personally, you made broad assumptions. The fact of the matter is, in most states you will be asked or you have to inform them out right. It's also amusing that after getting this new information, you don't change your initial claims, but rather try to put qualifiers on the claims so you can stick to your guns, as it were. Also, despite you saying now that this is about a specific case, notice that in your opening post you never mentioned that case. You made a broad statement encompassing people's actions and words in the present, not what happened in the past. It is rather routine for police to ask. Especially if you are Black/Hispanic. So preemptively mentioning it when they are likely to already ask it is not an issue. In the end, only two states say you don't have to tell them. Overall you will either likely be asked, or you have to inform them without even being asked. That is the answer to your topic title. --- |
