Politics is kinda taboo for a lot of people in any environment. Feelings too strong.

I work in policy advocacy, so it's not surprising. One of my coworkers is the wife of my state representative, in fact. It would probably be more odd if we didn't talk about politics, though I think it's a bad thing overall for talent recruitment and retention

- significantly less pay compared to equally skilled private sector work
- public ridicule and little private life. Nothing is considered sacred or personal, not even your salary or tax claims or family life
- constant pressure to be working always. Take a break to play some golf? "That's our tax money at work"

I'm not a doctor or a lawyer or a business executive, but to me the additional clause here implies that it isn't just for gender reassignment surgery. The first clause already mentions the provision of "treament [or] counseling services" for "sex reassignment or gender identity transitioning" which would make the second clause mostly redundant.
