Apparently the black girl is Lando's daughter. Wasn't said anywhere in the movie, but the visual dictionary mentions it.

In fact, the visual dictionary has a shit ton of story details that were left out of the movie. Point being, the planet Kylo Ren was on at the very beginning was Mustafar and he was killing Vader cultists to get to the Sith Wayfinder they had hidden in a temple.

I haven't watched any of the movies.

They're not really related. There's the comic that showed that Palpatine might have caused the inception of Anakin (who then becomes the father of Luke and Leia, and Kylo is Leia's son) but I think that was just a vision and wasn't explicitly stated that it happened.

But if Palpatine was responsible for Anakin...then that would end up making Kylo and Rey related in some way which makes the ship even worse.

No, I don't think Disney's gonna stop making movies, but they need to ditch the trilogy concept. I like the idea of just making self-contained movies to expand the lore, Solo and Rogue One proved that enough to me.

My opinions on these. Original trilogy is a fantastic set of movies that easily stand on their own. Tells a good and cohesive story, has a bunch of likable and believable characters, and establishes a cool universe ripe for expansion.

Cue the prequel trilogy. Sets up how the OT came to be, establishes a whole bunch of interesting plot elements and lore, but the movies are riddled with poor pacing, bad acting, and cringe-worthy dialogue. This trilogy contributed to a LOT of great Star Wars content that used its potential well, but the trilogy itself is nigh unbearable to watch. I'd consistently see myself indulging in a bunch of Star Wars media that took its inspiration from this trilogy but I just cannot watch the prequels seriously again. The potential was there, and the trilogy would've turned out great if Lucas had other people to help him out with the direction and scriptwriting.

The Sequel Trilogy. Disney made these films with the intention of making a quick buck. Not much thought was put into the stories for these films by way of just "doing the same thing as the OT but making it bigger" and the existence of so many plotholes and unexplained pieces of story that were just left out. Not much additional lore was established, and in fact they took bits and pieces of the EU to adapt into the films rather than coming up with their own stuff. But having said all that, these films are enjoyable to watch. Much like summer blockbuster films, you can turn your brain off and just enjoy a decently-acted, flashy and exciting spectacle that at the end of the day, doesn't amount to much.

This just reinforces my idea that what Disney should do going forward is to just make side stories and movies within the Star Wars universe and just ditch the trilogy formula. Because I enjoyed Solo. I enjoyed Rogue One. Despite the hammy acting I enjoyed The Mandalorian's first season. They all have self-contained stories (for the most part) that hold up well and flesh out the lore. Just keep doing more of that. Plenty of the fanbase enjoys the lesser parts of Star Wars, not everything has to focus on the central conflict of Jedi vs. Sith.

Essentially. Either create side movies like Rogue One and Solo and just ditch the trilogy concept from now on, or set new trilogies far into the past or far into the future so they don't have to rely on any existing content.

I wasn't a fan of the sequel trilogy making the Force Ghosts able to interact with the real world, especially this one. Makes death as a Jedi not have much consequence to it if they can do the same things they were able to do while living.

Yeah, I'm inclined to believe that Abrams might have actually intended for Palpatine to return, but it probably was going to be a sequel hook for TLJ. As it stands now it feels as if his return was supposed to be announced in the last movie with how this one starts, but that didn't happen.

Edit: Also, I know it was CGI, but seeing young Luke and Leia in that one flashback brought a tear to my eye.

Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, the pacing was a bit too fast-paced though. It's like they decided to pull another Infinity War except they had to fit Endgame into the same movie.

Because Toriyama claimed it as non-canon, and the fans take his word for it. If George Lucas was still involved with Star Wars, deemed the Disney trilogy non-canon and made his own, it'd be the same issue.

Of all the faults TLJ had, Luke force projecting himself is not one of them. It makes perfect sense why he would do that.

Nah, that was Lucas's intention from the very beginning. The prequels were specifically "Anakin went against the prophecy" instead of "him bringing balance to the Force meant he joins the dark side." At least I don't trust Lucas to be self-aware enough in his writing for that.
