Faby (Flappy Bird) - LAW fodder
Kermit the Frog (The Muppets games) - Low fodder

People know him but his appeal heavily skews mainstream family-friendly rather than nerd. Also maybe a little older than optimal? No notable games either.

Wall-E (Wall-E) - Low fodder

Mad Max's setting and imagery were highly influential, but at least in North America, I think the films themselves had faded hard by the turn of the century from any space in the popular consciousness they might have once held. Even if I don't think much of Wall-E, I'd think of course he beats Mad Max, who pretty much only has the pseudo-recency of Fury Road in his favor.

I remember as of the aftermath of the 2015 contest people seemed to think Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were pretty close on gamefaqs and WW was actually placed just ahead in the x-stats. Do we think that's how it would still go?

I think he was probably like high fodder back in 2008 when he was fresh off DMC4. He would clearly have faded in the interim though, and while he does have DMC5 going for him now, I don't think enough of gamefaqs cares.

I don't think a flashback child character from a marginal game (by gamefaqs standards anyways) is worth much. And even then, while Heavy Rain was relatively high-profile and well-received at the time, I have the impression that neither its reputation or that of David Cage made it to the end of this decade completely intact.

Kane (WWF/WWE games) - LAW fodder. Wrestling is almost worthless here. A few of the absolute biggest names might be low but I don't think Kane quite makes it. I say that as someone who's never watched any wrestling though. also:

Sherry Birkin (Resident Evil) - Mid fodder

RE2make is probably gonna be GOTY or runner-up so I'll throw her a bone. This is not a character I think anybody cared the slightest bit about before she came back in RE6 and people not liking that game limited how much it could do for her.

low fodder for Krystal. I dont think shes hated so much as faces apathy. In general I just dont think people ever liked her. None of the games shes in are well-liked either.

her being in the same tier as peppy also feels wrong. Slippy and andross are already in that tier too and while andross could conceivably bomb all the way to low fodder regardless of Krystal, I think slippy should both beat her and lose to peppy by non-trivial amounts. Feel like either shes low fodder or peppy is probably high fodder? Im inclined to think the former since fox did not do well even against Jill in 2018 and Star Fox in general has no good news to speak of. Peppy in the same tier as wolf would also be a little odd but I guess theres no doubt hed have been stronger if wolf wasnt in smash.

Assuming visual novels count, I think the original release of Higurashis first chapter had like 3 people working on it and aside from the music I dont think the staff on later chapters or Umineko were much bigger.

Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) - Mid fodder

I guess. Never played the game but between cute girl, character from a Nintendo JRPG with pretty good sales, and the possibility that she's actually a good character people care about, I can see her making mid fodder. Primrose looked to be around that tier and without good reason to think nobody cares about Mythra I'm inclined to put her there too.

Mother Brain (Metroid) - High fodder

I guess. Recognizable Nintendo main villain from a franchise that's gotten much stronger over time.

I'd be wary about the amount people simply don't care about her, though. Ridley has totally stolen most of her thunder as the Iconic Metroid Antagonist. She's not much more than the cool boss fight at the end of Super Metroid unless you really like Captain N.

James McCloud (Star Fox) - Low fodder

Star Fox characters haven't done much lately to earn trust. And if almost-certainly-strongest-star-fox-guy-not-in-smash Peppy is Mid Fodder, I don't see James matching that. Andross or Slippy, okay, if they're at the opposite end of the tier but James should be a step below even them.

Her and Lavos are probably the only non-playable CT characters I see beating Low fodder.

That was really good compared to expectations and suikodens also looked much better than it used to in series polls. People talked up Suikoden ii for years and years as this really great hidden gem PS1 rpg that nobody could play without shelling out over a hundred bucks or piracy and then it finally got put on psn. I think its play rate could be surprisingly decent. With how bad vyse keeps looking despite skies of Arcadia staying steady I wouldnt call luca mid fodder without seeing him actually come back but he could be fairly close.

Re-rank sly cooper.

Just because Crash/Spyro/Jak/Ratchet (but mainly the first two) have boosted over time doesnt mean he will. Unlike those four, Sly Coopers games had neither much mainstream popularity nor scratching gamefaqs specific itches going for them. He cant benefit much from nostalgic remembrance if the vast majority never played his franchise and he was never relevant or popular in the first place.

i see zero improvement in 9 years. If you set Lugia to 20% in the x-stats since we rated him fodder-line, 2013 Sly is probably within 1% of 2004 Sly. Crash and Spyro already looked much improved over their worst showings by that point. Id say these are borderline mid-to-low fodder performances, not high. Jak was ranked high fodder, probably correctly, and hed wreck Sly.

I'm a little hesitant to give him even that much credit. He's got a couple really cool sections and I guess he's the "cool" antagonist but in the grand scope of the game he feels sorta inconsequential, in a game that's almost 15 years old and seemed to be declining in strength. RE2make will probably enable the franchise in general to at least tread water since 2015 though so I guess I'll go barely Mid Fodder.

We put him fodder-line. Admittedly, it's very rare that we've gotten a good read on him thanks to SFF and general weirdness, but I think he's probably better than that. And with the Brawl era well buried at this point, I guess you could argue he might be past his prime? But Meta Knight ~ Dedede (and if anyone disagrees Dedede is fodder-line, we probably shouldn't be using Ocelot as a go-to example for the tier) just doesn't match my instincts on how those two rank up.

if you were ever into dbz, you probably remember krillin pretty well. Someone with that much screen time that, while often pretty hapless he avoided being annoying, in a franchise we think gamefaqs remembers pretty fondly has gotta be mid fodder at worst. I considered high but at the end of the day, while recognizable, hes not someone most people care much about.

The other big dbz humans are probably pretty bad though. Id low fodder the lot of them.

nobody would remember or care if not for the controversy and nobody who cares about that is voting him.

R.O.B. - he actually hasnt been eligible in previous contests. Originated as a hardware peripheral rather than an actual character so sballen ruled him out.

mid fodder regardless though. Might just be the weakest smash character actually. Game and watch at least has seniority and a cool gimmick.

Im not sure even yoshis island fans would have much positive to say about poochy. Even if you argue segments with him are fun, they dont tend to endear players towards him! Poochy aint Stupid almost seems like it was named specifically to make people hate the dog.

Change me to mid fodder for Reptile. Those poll results really werent good and I doubt hes ahead of Guile.

Reyn time and Dunban looked really bad in 2013. I assume the 3ds port, sequels, and having a character in Smash have widened the series appeal a little or else this would be low.
Koopa Troopa - High fodder
Almost as iconic as Goomba and makes prominent appearances in most spinoffs. Certainly wouldnt think he loses to Birdo.
Dr. Light - Low fodder
Mega Man Classic just doesnt have much of a story and Light himself is kind of straightforward and uninteresting in what scenes he does appear in. I just dont think he has any real appeal.

Jeanne (Bayonetta) - Low fodder

Bayonetta herself is much more popular and well-known than any of her games and this was the case even before she was in Smash. For other characters in her series to be worth anything here, her games would have to be worth something here. And most indications are that they're kinda not.

Mara (Shin Megami Tensei series) - Low fodder
The Scarecrow (DC Comics) - Low fodder

While Scarecrow is a notable, sorta-well known member of Batman's rogue gallery, he's probably in the bottom half of that category. Think the only other live-action movie villain he beats is probably Ra's al Ghul. Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane all probably trump him. He's also not beating Harley Quinn. Does have the edge over, say, Killer Croc, Clayface, and Mad Hatter though. So yeah, he's maybe the 10th strongest Batman villain. Is the vast majority of the site that's never read a Batman comic (other than maybe the Killing Joke and the Dark Knight Returns) going to care at all about him? Probably not. Apparently he has a decent role in some of the Arkham games though; haven't played. I could see cartoon appearances, Nolan trilogy, and Arkham adding up to SOMETHING and he's got being kinda-sorta recognizable going for him but when push comes to shove I don't think people are gonna take the second-to-third-rate Batman villain over anyone with any following.

Young Link (Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time /SSB series) - Elite

Even without all the other Links, he's still the lead of what is at worst the second-strongest game of the 90's (believe in CT!) and Majora's Mask won Game of the Decade (I'm a little skeptical of the idea that it would have ever beaten Melee if they had a direct match though) so yeah.

It's very possible people will think that "Young Link" being in a poll is stupid and rebel. I think this will hurt a little. I'm not sure it'll be enough to drag him off Elite Tier.

Kimahri Ronso (Final Fantasy X) - Mid fodder

I first played FFX in 2010 but long before then I already knew all of the other party members' names and character designs thanks to character battles and having been on video game forums, most of them JRPG-related, for the past decade.

Except Kimahri. Nobody ever really mentioned him outside of topics solely involving FFX or put him in their avatar or signature or...anything, really. I was surprised he existed. I don't think people hate him so much as are apathetic towards him, but that's almost as bad.
