We pay more per person for healthcare than basically every developed country in the world and we have lower life expectancies. I don't doubt that we have some experimental treatments they don't have because of the hundreds of billions of dollars extra a year flowing through the system but it isn't worth it.

Real talk, happened to my cousin. Had half stones and they told him to drink water and rest they will pass. Then charged him $2000 after insurance and he had really good insurance. Couldnt imagine the cost if he didnt.

My fiance and I had very bad flu's possibly covid after going to Disney World early this year and she had trouble breathing at one point in the middle of the night. They took her in and basically this happened. They sat her down, gave her fluids, and then said it was probably a mix of a panic attack and the flu and sent her home after about 10 minutes of care at an empty free standing ER.

Thank god I had added her to my insurance as a "domestic partner" because that shit was billed for $8,000. We paid $3,000 out of pocket to hit her deductible and then some. This was in network pricing with the 'medium deductable plan'.

I grew up as a Navy brat covered by government healthcare and then I joined the Army and then I had the GI Bill which covered the 'gold plan' at my university and then as a healthy guy in his 20's/early30's I'd never had to go to a doctor. This ER visit was an eye opener for me. Shit needs to change. The current system is broken and it needs to be shredded and we need to put together a modern single payer system like every other developed country.

regardless of race of the players, the US could dominate in soccer if we cared about the sport. And no I am not just being arrogant. it's true. dominating a sport requires money. lots of it, to find and develop talent. And the US COULD finance a killer team if we had the desire to do it. but soccer isn't seen as a major serious sport here. so nobody bothers much with it. it's just not important in our culture like other sports are. the rest of the world that loves soccer should be happy the US doesn't care about it. cause we would wreck their teams.

The US still holds the number 1 spot for average attendance for World Cup games from back in 1994 (68,626) when we had it here and back then we, as a country, cared even less about Soccer than we do now. We just have an abundance of massive stadiums and half the people attending the games were doing it just for novelty reasons.

I spent the first 32 years of my life without debt.

My parents gifted me a car. A 2002 Honda Accord Coupe with a stick back in 2004 that lasted me all the way to 2018 (loved that car) then I joined the Army then I got the GI bill for college and then I started working as a software developer while I lived at home with my parents and I just had money flooding in from my job.

When I was 30 I got a mortgage (350k ..... gulp... but its Colorado so that is normal). It feels weird to be in debt even though I have equity. Suddenly I went from money flooding in to slowly accruing with more than half my income going housing + utilities + food.

Makes me think of church as kid and being bored and sleepy.

That would not end well where I grew up.

I grew up near/on military bases. I cant imagine how this would go down in a place where half the residents are veterans or active duty.

In america that trip would have cost 10,000 and you would have received a bill from every doctor that spoke to you.

It was worse than the PC version but it was surprisingly playable from what I remember.

What do you guys do where you are salivating over what amounts to just under 30,000 a year.....

When I was looking for a car I tried out a BRZ and a 3 series and I just felt like claustrophobic. I've only owned Honda Accords as daily drivers (2003-2018, 2018-present) and that is a size of car I love. I've rented a Mustang on a trip and that was awesome but when I test drove a BRZ and a 3 series before I bought my second Accord I felt claustrophobic.

I would have been ok with this. Better than Leia's Superman moment.

It would have given an iconic character an iconic sendoff and it would have closed off 99% of the "why don't they just do that all the time" can be answered super easy. It requires a space wizard with a strong force link to guide them to the target like the link between Leia and her son to sacrifice their lives to go out in a blaze of glory.

If it were up to me I would have had Leia pull off the maneuver.

I feel like it would have worked for me plot wise if Leia used the force to magically make it a viable strategy in a similar way that Luke made the impossible shot to blow up the first death star. She could have used her force connection to her son to guide the ship in a way that has never been attempted before.

I would also have kept Luke alive at the end and had Leia's sacrifice be what pushed him to finally go all in on training Rey.

I liked it but the whole "let's punch our way through this horde of zombies because pg13 " thing didnt quite work as a fan of zombie movies.

Kids are costly. Especially if doing it all on one income in today's world.

I get that I'm just hoping that she gets it to. Right now I make 95 she makes 80. I dont think she realizes how quickly those student loans could blow up if she takes a lot of time off.

I'm doing OK money wise though that could change next year when I get married. My fiance has 95k student loan debt and also seems to want to take time off from working if we have a kid.

You have to actually post evidence that protests were major spreading events. You cant just say it.

You cant have it both ways. You cant pretend like mass events with off and on mask usage with people not socially distancing shouting in massive crowds or even holding hands doesnt spread covid because reasons and then pretend it's still pre george floyd and scold people for not socially distancing.

Just from my own experience, the protest I attended observed social distancing, and everyone was wearing a mask. Some one came by without one and was immediately offered a mask, which they took. There's plenty of evidence that suggests that mask-wearing is highly effective. I'm sorry things don't always work out how you want them.

Lets do a little experiment.

Open google image search and type BLM protest 2020 followed by a city name. Do we see crowds of people not socially distancing and do we see people in the crowd without masks on?

Lets just go by population biggest to smallest.

New York - Yes
Los Angeles - yes
Chicago - Yes
Houston - yes
Phoenix - yes
Philadelphia - yes
San Antonio - yes
San Diego - yes

etc etc etc.

You can't spend months praising mass gatherings for social justice then suddenly remember that the coronavirus exists and scold people for mass gatherings without looking like a hypocrite.
