I felt similar.

In high school I never did my homework turned in most projects late for partial credit and relied entirely on the tests to pass the course so they were these huge pressure things where anything less than an A would mean an F in the course.

I went in the Army after high school and when I got out in college I did all my homework and all the projects on time and studied my ass off for tests and ended up with a 3.9 GPA even though I felt like I was a much weaker programmer than a lot of other comp sci students.

I felt a bit embarrassed at graduation when they announced the latin honors stuff because I felt like other people knew that they were better at coding than me but saw me with this super high gpa.

I actually got back into it a bit when BFA launched after not playing it since Wrath of Lich King.

I played through all the single player story stuff 5 man dungeons and a few raids from Legion and BFA and I enjoyed them. A few takaways ....

1. The Story Content and questing in the newer expansion is dramatically better than it was when I stopped playing but that content was also all still in the game and up until Shadowlands pre patch (which is out) you had to level through some of the older zones to get to the good stuff. As of about a month ago they patched it so you can pick a single expansion zone and level through all of it and see all the story content and all of the zones to get to end game levels which I think is very wise because the leveling experience for new players felt very jumbled before as you walked through mostly empty zones of legacy content where you would level so fast that you saw about 1/5th of each expansion before zipping on to the next continent and got no coherent narrative.

2.I still don't really enjoy high end raiding which is why I dipped out of the game in the first place but they seem to pack a lot more in for the solo players like world quests and daily stuff.

3.Demon Hunter is a ton of fun- I basically started by leveling my old Orc Warrior up to legion then I switched to a Night Elf Demon Hunter and its my favorite class in the game. Its simple, its basically got a triple jump/gliding with no cooldown that you just activate by slapping the jump button a few times, anything you kill refills your hp so you never have to rest in open world play, it has a relatively limited number of abilities and cooldowns to manage.

Its just perfect for a casual player that loves running around the world or pvping in battlegrounds and it honestly is what kept me playing the game.

How is that not relevant?

More than 14,000 people under the age of 35 died of suicide last year. Covid has killed less than 2,000 in that age cohort.

You should be more worried about the mental health of your friends in that age group than whether or not they will die of covid especially if suicide rates are rising as a result of covid. If the rate goes up by 20% that will be more of an increase than all the deaths from covid for that age cohort.

the fact that you had enough compassion to interrupt your machine-simulation-task and be a human is reason enough to not call you back for an interview. They need sociopaths, not social workers.

It isn't sociopathic to expect productivity out of people you are hiring, particularly if you are going to be paying them six figures. There is also a difference between showing compassion and understanding to your employees and hiring someone that is already a problem child.

They aren't adopting a kid they are hiring an employee.

Don't get your hopes up.

Companies like Amazon have a pretty high number of applicants and they likely already have a batch that completed the coding interview that they are sorting through. I'm guessing they will just say "better luck next time".

Think about it from their perspective. They are hiring the best of the best in terms of software developers and you are saying "I had stuff come up so I couldn't complete the test you gave me".

https://www.npr.org/2020/10/21/925794511/were-the-risks-of-reopening-schools-exaggerated

While agreeing that emerging data is encouraging, other experts said the United States as a whole has made little progress toward practices that would allow schools to make reopening safer from rapid and regular testing, to contact tracing to identify the source of outbreaks, to reporting school-associated cases publicly, regularly and consistently.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/feared-covid-outbreaks-in-schools-yet-to-arrive-early-data-shows/2020/09/23/0509bb84-fd22-11ea-b555-4d71a9254f4b_story.html
She called the early data potentially optimistic but said it is premature for districts to change course and decide to open their buildings.

Much of the concern is focused on teachers and other adults in the building, because data shows that covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, is far more deadly to older patients.

According to the American Federation of Teachers, 14 active teachers, principals and counselors have died of covid-19 since the school year started, although it is not possible to conclude that any one of them contracted the coronavirus at school.

I agree we should have a debate over this. If discussion on this topic were allowed and not a bannable offense I would argue that there are over 50,000,000 k-12 students in the US and 14 deaths teaching 50 million students makes it tough to make a strong connection between opening schools and covid deaths.

So your take is that someone is allowed to read the most reputable news sources on the planet showing data showing that covid is not spreading significantly in k-12 schools after they are opened and then post

"its irrational to keep schools closed"

But someone can not read any new sources and not be informed at all and just say
"I like schools. They should open. Hooray."

Because the problem with my post is that I suggested I was putting forward a rational response to covid given the data that we have. You aren't allowed to do that. Its offensive. Offensive enough to be warned.

So pf course the spread will be less. That means those efforts are working lol

I support all of these things. I wear a mask everywhere I go and I have hand sanitizer sitting at my desk at work that I splash on my hands every time I have to go somewhere else in the building.

That being said I believe that at 100% at home schooling doesn't work for a lot of kids. We have data saying that bringing these kids in, with measures being taken like you described, does no lead to outbreaks.

I'm not going to say I think we should put kids into in person classes because that is a warning offense but I think we should look at the data and make a rational decision that chooses the lesser of two evils.

I was on a funeral detail for a few months in the Army (45 funerals in about 2.5 months). Only one was a KIA the rest were veterans.

It was weird how normal it became to do them. We had a three man group where we would just show up, put a flag on the casket, then hand it to the family for veterans and we had the full detail show up to carry the casket to the grave site and do the 21 gun salute (7 guys three shots with blanks out of m16's).

The first few funerals I felt some emotion about it but by about number 20 it just felt like a thing we did. Obviously we took the job seriously but it was more about not fucking up than any kind of emotion you would normally associate with a dead person.
