Technically yes? But also technically no? It's complicated.

I've told the longer story before, but the short version is that I was the longest-tenured employee at a movie rental place during college. I had outlasted 3 managers, and 2 full rotations of the entire rest of the staff. Money started going missing from the store, and I figured out based on times, schedules, etc. that it was the newest manager who was stealing. So I took that information and went to the district manager. I was fired a week later on some bullshit completely fabricated customer complaint. Got a call about a month or so after from the regional manager telling me that the district manager had been working with several of the store managers in his area to steal a significant amount of cash from the company. They were all fired and, while I'm not 100% certain, I believe they were in the process of filing criminal charges. But the regional manager was trying to re-staff like 20 different positions, and by suggestion from the rest of my store's crew wanted to offer me the manager position for that location.

I was graduating from college and moving back home about 2 months later, and they didn't have a store closer to my home that I could transfer to, so I had to decline. Apparently he had actually heard glowing reviews of me specifically several times from previous managers over the ~2.5 years I'd been working there, and he seemed genuinely sorry about what happened and disappointed that I couldn't stay with them.

So yes, I was fired. But then it was rescinded and they offered me a promotion instead.

I'm sure we'll never find an actual use for fish driving vehicles on land. But that's not the point of the study.

Learning about how simpler systems work is the first step in understanding more complex systems. Want to understand how the human brain is capable of interpreting its environment? You're not going to start with humans. You start with something simpler and work your way up.

It's like if you were dropped off in the middle of nowhere with no maps or tools and told you'll be saved if you head 5 miles north. If you're completely ignorant, all you can really do is pick a random direction and start walking. But if you understand how the sun moves, you can easily look up and figure out which way is north. Understanding which direction the Earth rotates on its own seems pretty useless. But that base-level knowledge can become a tool to direct you on how to solve more complicated problems. That's what these types of studies are for.

How come the GOP can get away with anything, but my side has to resign?

The difference is that one side at least admits they fucked up when they get caught and is willing to face the consequences for that.

The other side refuses to believe that they even did anything wrong in the first place.

Shouldn't you be happy that Dems at least hold each other somewhat accountable for their wrongs? It's still not great, and they still don't suffer nearly the same level of repercussions that a normal day-job working guy would for the same actions. But at least it's something. If they didn't, could you even really claim that they were any different from their opposition?

Satisfactory is a great one, especially if you're somewhat new to the genre. I've also recently gotten hooked on Dyson Sphere Program. How can you say "we're not letting the lapped cars through" for 3 laps under the safety car, and then Red Bull complains and immediately the cars are let through?

But ONLY the ones that were between Hamilton and Verstappen? Half the lapped cars weren't allowed to go through before they removed the safety car. In what world is this an acceptable way to decide the championship?

Why does Max get to have a free win in a race where he literally had nothing on Hamilton the entire time? When the best driver is so clearly screwed out of a win because of completely arbitrary decisions that don't line up with any previously established procedures, you have to question the legitimacy of the race.

His first strategy should be to avoid Max, who I can see taking them both out to guarantee himself the championship.

While possible, they would have to make a pretty convincing argument that it wasn't intentional if they want to avoid a points deduction. Especially as dirty as Max has been racing recently. More likely Perez is told to take one for the team and throw himself into Hamilton.

Either way, if Hamilton doesn't finish the race and there's any hint of it being because of Red Bull, there will be an absolute shitstorm afterwards.

Not true.

It's the only excuse for Max getting driver of the day with the absolute shit-show of a performance he just put on. He drove dangerously, ignored racing lines, cut corners multiple times to get advantages, caused collisions, literally brake-checked his opponent in a Formula 1 race, tried to game the system by re-overtaking immediately after giving a position back, and he STILL lost by a wide margin to a Hamilton with a fucking broken front wing.

There is literally no universe in which a driver who received multiple penalties, including points against his license, and still couldn't even compete against a clean racing opponent should be considered the "driver of the day" unless you are rooting for crashes. Period.

Congrats and happy birthday. Seems like this must be a very rare statistical thing for it to be in our lifetime, mine would also be centuries earlier than now

It is quite rare, but we have experienced a few palindrome dates in recent memory. November 2nd, 2011, and October 2nd, 2001 for example. But I believe this is the last one for quite some time, as the inverted final 2 digits of the year (21 currently) is leaving the range of months (01-12), so we won't get another until at least October 3rd, 3001.

I think.

EDIT: Also thank you for the well-wishes. ^_^
