Wasn't it something childish like "well when I get off this planet and explore I'll need to be able to understand what everyone is saying so I built him" and then poor writing made it so 99% of the things in the universe speak whatever the common language is so it didn't even matter because he had to learn that language and didn't use C-3PO to translate. So, yeah just bad writing trying to explain stuff that made it overall worse.

"He's a protocol droid, to help mom."
That's all he said about it.

Dead Money [...] has a good story

Old World Blues: Pure comedy. Tons of incredibly stupid jokes, dialogue heavy. No real vareity or story. Feels much more like Fallout 2 where no one gave a crap about things making sense and just leaned hard on pure wackiness.

Lonesome Road: Boring as fuck, walking down an ugly corridor while a dull man drones at you.

Dead Money is the most interesting

I cannot in good conscience even pretend to take this person's views on this series seriously. Or many other things, for that matter.

Speaking of New Vegas, is the DLC worth it? I've never got around to buying any of it.

Considering UnfairRepresent is known for his shit opinions, I'll provide a second opinion on this:

- Dead Money:
A horror-themed atmosphere and has a gameplay feature that makes it feel very confined, which can get very frustrating. The equipment is pretty crappy and although the characters are somewhat interesting, the story and overall experience are mediocre at best.

- Honest Hearts:
Takes place in nature, far enough from civilization that there are almost no traces of post-nuclear destruction, which can be soothing in a way (plus there's fresh food and water all around because of it). The maim story is not particularly interesting, though it does have a subplot of sorts that us pretty interesting to learn about, and it has one of the best weapons in the game.

- Old World Blues
A pretty wacky story with tons of locations and equipment all crammed together. Has some challenging parts and good upgrades. Mostly memorable for its silliness. Major downside is that it has several stretches that are very repetitive.

Lonesome Road:
Aptly named, this takes place in an even more apocalyptic environment than other Fallout areas. Has very challenging combat, and some of the most powerful enemies in the game. There are many moments where the wisest course of action is to plan your attack, as opposed of rushing in guns blazing.
Despite the fact it barely has any characters to talk to, it easily has the most interesting story of all the DLCs.

The 'down-to-earth', mostly pragmatic, morally ambiguous social atmosphere. Unlike most RPGs out there, the (real) Fallout games don't really latch on to stereotypical good vs evil storytelling and avoid a lot of other unnecessary clichs like romance sub-plots.
Fallout 1, 2 and NV feel more relatable, grounded and gritty in that regard, and it's what makes them stand out from the rest (in no small part thanks to Chris Avellone).

Until U.S. gets rid of things like winner-takes-all, electoral college and gerrymandering, voters simply do not have the luxury of cherry-picking their candidates, as any vote not cast for the main candidate from either Giant Douche or Turd Sandwich is just a wasted vote. It really shouldn't be that way, but those aforementioned things make it that way.

So when the choice boils down between either 'not great/bad' (in this case Biden/Dem) or 'batshit insane terribad (in this case Trump/Rep), I prefer Biden literally any day.

Biden is the more preferably option over Trump (or any modern-day Republican) any single day.

Any third-party candidate won't stand a chance in hell at winning. I wish it wasn't like that, but that's just the sad truth with an electoral system like that of the U.S.

The fact that his pockets run very, very, very deep is what keeps me pessimistic about this war and the ways it could lead to. Although the invasion has been relatively crappy so far, it doesn't matter if Putin can just keep throwing money into the invasion, as well as into Russian society (at least enough to keep it somewhat afloat).

Personally I think Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and Anthem are pretty interesting. Probably in part because those can at least be interpreted as more/something else than just Rand's idea of 'pure capitalism is utopia and everyone should just be selfish for the sake of being selfish'.

The whole message of Atlas Shrugged is just that and nothing but that, which is pretty ironic considering it has more pages than those other two books combined.

So many things could change as a result of this war

The West most unified it's been for a long time with even historically neutral states like Sweden and Finland considering NATO membership.
A new focus on reducing energy dependence on Russia by Europe. More nuclear power?
European Union standing army may become more of a priority. Germany rearmed on a larger scale?
A properly militarised Europe may mean less dependence on US for security in future?

I think this is the most defining moment for Europe since WW2

These possibilities make me somewhat hopeful, as this event might be the push that could effectively bring more cooperation in Europe as well as meaningful changes toward achieving climate goals.

At the same time I'm deeply worried about Putin (and whichever crony might be 'elected' to succeed him) being a loose cannon and having enough nukes at their disposal to make the world uninhabitable several times over.

Interestingly I feel the opposite. I recently turned 35 and I think it's the best age to be of all.

At this point I'm experienced at the things I've done so far, both professionally and socially, yet I can still learn more and grow in all kinds of directions.

I won't stand much of a chance of being champion at anything or be able to learn stuff as efficiently as when I was younger, but that's ok, as long I can do the things I like to do and gain satisfaction from pretty well, that alright for me.

Unlike in my early 20s, I now have the confidence to stand up to people, approach people I fancy, accept criticism (whether it's the constructive kind or the CE kind) take a loss when I don't succeed, learn from it and move on.

As for kids, I never felt the desire to have any. I've had a vasectomy a few years ago and still feel good about that. Not that I hate kids or anything. I just feel like I can accomplish so many more meanungful things (both to me and others) without having kids. Besides, I prefer cats anyway.

I think one of the most important things in all this is to appreciate the little things. Sure, it'd probably be nice to have a few millions dollars, but having enough to get by on and do something fun and spend time in good company every once in a while can be enough.

Also, yes I know the things TC says are to be taken with a bag of salt, though I think it's good to share perspective on this, especially since quite a lot of us here are in their 30s/40s.
