I'm sure there's some "student athletes can't earn over X amount" rule, even if they're not dependents. But more likely, it's because the crowd funding thing probably mentioned she was an athlete and therefore violates their whole "student athletes can't profit from being an athlete, but we can totally profit off their likeness for years to come" paperwork.
