The Eagles sensibly could have been used to shorten the trip considering Sauron had multiple armies causing death all over Middle Earth (it would have robbed us of a grand story, so that is why it wasn't done), with many lives lost spent during all the time the fellowship was walking around. But you have to consider 2 points, particularly point 2.

1. Granted, flying into Mordor itself is a really bad idea considering Sauron's ridiculously large standing forces there, and they probably would have been shot out of the skies. Still would have probably required a diversion to drop the ring into Mount Doom by foot...

2. But that's ignoring the fact that no person could ever willingly choose to destroy the ring. So you either need interference like what Eru used (in the novels) or at least an accident to happen like did in the movies. And it was only through the mercy that Frodo showed Gollum that either scenario was possible...and flying the ring to Mount Doom avoids Frodo getting a chance to interact with Gollum...so the Eagle idea fails to destroy the ring and Sauron takes over Middle Earth... A bad ending.

the door should at the very least have an interlock system, a lock that engages any time the electromagnets are engaged.
