Out of curiosity I listened to the CN one and it sounded like they were speaking through a radio or something, kind of strange.

Great trailer and music. But this was my first time hearing the bird with English VA and I literally jumped in my chair at how it sounded. ;_;

That's really interesting, I haven't considered ANY of that. that sub is fun to read in general, I do really like all the lore shoved into Genshin.

Done everything in post-game now except for the super boss, the one called Simon. Phase 2 is...going to take a lot of practice. x_x And no I refuse to use a cheap one shot build lol.

I'm tried it out today and played for 30 minutes. It's charming but it has a slow beginning. I'll stick with it and play more later tho.

I agree with the 30 hours main story ~60 hours doing everything. I'm at 56 hours right now, though I've definitely spent a chunk of time redoing various boss fights since my personal style is 'only use counter and learn their moves.'

It just sucks that the traversal is such garbage though. Like, the music is amazing, the visuals are amazing, the story is amazing, the battle system is amazing. Then you get the Gestral beach games and I wonder how drunk and stoned they were when they came up with them. "Hey guys, you know the jumping and physics that are barely functional, but good enough for how they are used on the main path? Let's design complex courses around them without improving the mechanic at all"

Fortunately they are a very small part of the experience, I just wish my reaction to seeing a new Gestral Beach area was excitement rather than "lol nope" and turning around.

No way they weren't self-aware about how clunky those areas are and was done as some kind of troll. Oddly enough the one I was seething over most was the wall climbing one. Aaaggh.

Nuh uh! Admittedly I get excited and enjoy things easily but I do try to keep the "masterpiece" calling to a minimum to only really special things.

Seeing the initial reveal trailer had me thinking it felt special, and playing just the first hour of the game solidified that.

It looks like it should be a AAA action-adventure, but being turn-based seemed so unusual for a game with these visuals.

I felt the same way when I saw the trailer. Just somehow I knew this was going to be an experience. Last time a trailer made me feel that way was the original Dishonored.

What is your preferred ending? Verso's felt right to me but I've still spent the past few days dwelling on the sentience of the people and the morality of Painters/Writers.

I do feel like that maybe Maelle should have just been the main character the whole time. This doesn't feel like Verso or Gustave's story.

I can see that. It was definitely a shock, the end of act 1. I'm guessing they did it this way to help with the feeling of the shift in focus after Act 1 and especially after Act 2. Maybe? lol. Or they just wanted to go, "Look, Charli Cox protag. ;)"

I hope that the game influences the direction of the genre heading into the future. Other than DQ, i dont think theres been a lot of games to capture that feeling of the classic jrpg in the last couple decades

I'd love if it did something like that. I like modern JRPGs but having a classic JRPG with modern QoL has been an addicting combo for me in the form of this game.

Strong word, but it does make me feel that strongly. Combat, characters, that damn soundtrack, and the story most of all. I can understand how not everyone will like the direction the story goes in but I loved it and thought the story and its message went a beautiful, very emotional way. I'm still just clearing up a bunch of things in post-game, not ready to put it down yet and considering a NG+ to pick up foreshadowing/hints I missed the first time.

Not what I expected but I still enjoyed it, behind the scenes stuff like that is fun. And the Nod-Krai music they had going on I loved a lot, reminded me of Witcher 3.

Oh heck yeah, I'm really looking forward to that. Feels surreal Natlan patches are drawing closer to completion already.

Why are people being mean to Venti?

A handful of Hoyo VA have been fairly publicly crap the past month or so ever since Kinich VA was replaced, and I think some people are doing the whole some VA are acting toxic = all VA are toxic mentality. So innocent ones like Erika get hit. I'd like to believe it's a minority of comments at least, just the particularly stupid people.

I've been reading Joe Abercrombie's First Law lately, it's been pretty good as well. I hear all his books are, if you're into gritty dark fantasy.

Can't say I agree with this criticism of Sanderson, I find his characters deep and flawed, especially with Stormlight. I also like his romance, but it's definitely not the center of attention or anything like that, which I find myself liking. I prefer it over the horny fantasy I've read before.

Saw some comments on Shallan's humor, as well. I was always under the impression that she only thinks she's queen of witty. Some others pat her on the head about it because she's a Lighteyes but others like Jasnah call her out on it. Compared to someone like Hoid whose humor I do actually like.

Topic reminded me I'm in for a rough Sando drought after this year's novella is out. ;_;

I wonder if she'll live up to the hype in our heads after so long.

I feel the story will kick up from here on anyway since we're entering the final stages of the whole arc. I am SOOO excited. I just feel really bad for EN listeners with how quiet this is gonna be. >.<

Navia is a lot of fun! She's so stylish with fun animations and it's fun constantly raining down boulders. And that's before including her shotgun lol.

Xilonen is a great choice. good in combat and plus she's great to use for traversal, even outside of Natlan.

And yeah, I'm not super fond of Skirk being so hammered in to that very specific niche, but I love her design so much and she's very lore relevant. ;_; And I do have other hydro/cryo people I hope would work with her, including Shenhe.

What's everyone's pulling plans? I'm really interested in Skirk but I keep seeing online that Escoffier is a "must pull" for her so I'm lowkey starting to feel like I should try for her as well, despite my 0 personal interest.

That's true about their mobility sometimes being a pain in certain locations. For me it's also Kinich when he's using his skill. And yesterday I was exploring the world quest area and was fighting one of those weasels that was on a SMALL area circled by lava, and that was when I was testing Varesa. She must have taken a lava bath about 3-4 times mid-fight rofl.

All I'm missing from Varesa artifact-wise is a decent Sands. Trying for the new plunge set and the only attack Sands I got has no useful sub-stats. Bleh.

Good luck! Artifacts can be so painful. I'm still not completely happy with my Varesa set but I'm going to wait until it becomes a strongbox option before I stress over it more.

Finished building Iansan finally and slapped her and Varesa in a team with Furina and Xilonen. A LOT of fun, I'm glad I ended up getting Varesa on that whim.

Agreed, I loved the event a lot. I feel they've really improved a lot with the animations. I noticed it during Lantern Rite, too.

Her VA has been really going wild on social media, I wonder at what point Hoyo can no longer feel they can afford to ignore it. Candace's VA also had a meltdown on social media but she's not the face of the game lol.

I haven't started the event yet, I should tomorrow. On my end I'm trying to build Varesa and I'm getting the worst artifact luck. x.x

Haven't popped in here for a while, got distracted with other things but I've still been playing! Varesa's trial ended up winning me over and I got her in a lucky few pulls, thankfully. Been having fun exploring the new map and I'm about to start the world quest though I'm not sure I'm emotionally ready for whatever will happen.

Completed the Lantern Rite quests two days ago. Overall, it felt meh aside from the Puyo Puyo mini game. Shame that a lot of EN VAs are absent (Hu Tao for sure) because it would have helped a lot more, but I understand the situation.

It's a lot like Sapphire said in #480. Star Rail has a TON more reading for its main chapters and events compared to Genshin and ZZZ, and it feels even worse when the chapter isn't one I'm enjoying. Like the school campus chapter with the ninja and monkeys felt like a bizarre form of mental torture to me LOL. That and the power creep felt pretty aggressive, which is something I don't feel at all in Genshin and so far neither in ZZZ (though the latter is still a fairly new game, granted). Those two things were the biggest contributors that made HSR feel more stressful to play. That and when ZZZ came along I didn't expect much from it, but I unexpectedly fell in love with it and its style. It's more fanservicey than I prefer but ah well.

Aside from Lantern Rite stuff, doing dailies and logging off is all I've been doing. That will change if there's a new area to explore. HSR just feels easier to want to do grind for artifacts, probably because of auto-battle. FOMO does suck, but it's to be expected with gacha games. At least I enjoy the general combat of Genshin. And Z^3 did seem interesting, but never felt like trying it due to having Genshin and HSR to play already. Invested too much into Genshin to call it good now.

I know what you mean. I juggled all three, Genshin, ZZZ, HSR, at some point, and it was a headache since I really wanted to keep up with main story and events, but also still play normal non-gacha games. It was just too much for me and Star Rail ended up getting the cut.

Suffering from a bit of burnout. These days, I don't spend resin. Just do enough to get primos and then quit if there isn't an event going on.

In terms of Lantern Rite, I am enjoying the Puyo Puyo game. Makes me realize how bad I am at it.

That happens to me as well, and I'm sure most people. It's important to take breaks, whether it's an actual proper 'not launching the game' break or just logging in to get dailies and log off 5 minutes later. Try not to let the fomo get to you, in my experience that's the quickest way the game feels way more stressful instead of fun and I end up permanently dropping it.

I'm bad at puyo puyo stuff, too lol. ZZZ has another matching mini-game going on right now I found more fun, people say it's a game called 2048.

I enjoyed the Lantern Rite story, though it's a bummer that it's some good development for Hu Tao and kind of feels like a second story quest for her but it's a limited event. x.x

Lucky! I pulled a few times for Lanyan but I only got one. So with the free one, I still only have up to C1. I'd really love to get my hands on that C2. x.x But I'm saving for Skirk and then the next region so I'm cutting myself off now lol.

Welcome! You have a TON of content ahead of you, don't feel the need to rush through it. Go at your pace, take breaks when you want, etc.

Others had good tips as well. I'd like to add--don't feel fussed about farming artifacts until you unlock higher/better domain levels and the best stuff is dropping. For a while, 3-4* artifacts will serve you just fine. Don't hesitate to google or ask us if you want advice on sets for your characters or anything else.
