Black Clover: Quartet Knights (PS4)

I have never watched or read Black Clover and I don't think this game helped in that regard for understanding what it is. Like 80% of games based on anime, it's an arena fighter but with a focus on multiplayer, which somehow makes it even worse. I finished the story and have no idea what even happened during most of it.

I'm not the biggest fan of this Billy Joel album and I vastly prefer his early works a lot more than this, but it's not a bad listen overall. However, it doesn't have any really standout tracks to me, but I still like listening to the album as a whole, so ranking the tracks here is actually quite difficult. Going with this ranking but I could easily swap some songs around if I listened to this on a different day.

I bought this as it was being delisted from the PlayStation Store two years ago, and started it last year. It's apparently a sequel to El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (and has the main character of that game as a summonable party member in this one), but even though I've never played that game I wasn't really confused at any of the plot besides the one chapter that Enoch appears in.

Unlike El Shaddai, which was more of an action title, this game is a first-person dungeon crawler with turn based combat. I'm always looking for more dungeon crawlers to play with, and this is a particularly good one. It rips off Shin Megami Tensei a lot with how you recruit enemies to be used as allies in battle, and because both use various entities from mythological sources a lot of the demons and angels you recruit in this game will have a similar counterpart in SMT/Persona. This game does tend to cheat a bit there by adding in some of the Knights of the Round Table, Yamato Takeru, and others in their enemy lineup.

The dungeons are fairly simple for the most part, with a few difficult spots in the Mount Fuji dungeon. All the gloves come off when the final dungeon comes into play where the game throws every dungeon gimmick at you and even invents some new ones I haven't seen before - the hallways where looking at a wall painting teleports you to the beginning of the hallway was a very interesting floor to traverse through - forcing strafing/moving backwards and carefully turning around at certain points so you don't directly look at one.

The platinum though is a ridiculous grind, the guide on PSNP says 150 hours and I beat the game in 45 hours. There's a 100-floor postgame dungeon to go, should be a lot of fun!

Crazy Chicken Jump'n'Run Traps and Treasures 2 (PS5)

A pretty simple platformer where you play as the chicken from the other titles in this long running series. Each level has a number of coins, statues, and artifacts to collect as well as enemies to defeat (by jumping on their head, of course, though some require you to shoot them with a gun). I didn't find all of the statues on my initial playthrough to unlock the bonus stages, but I'll finish it up at some point.

I bought this to see if it was really as bad as everyone said it was.

Somehow, I think it might be even worse than that. Aside from being a terrible visual novel, you do get a number of interesting extra videos including the Angry Video Game Nerd talking about "what have I done" with his video where people found out this game exists. You still have to play through the garbage story to unlock the extra videos, though.

I for one am glad that Square Enix pretty much just lets Yoko Taro do his own thing. They did just wrap up the mobile game and the anime for NieR last year, anyway.
