Lopen 07/06/25 12:53:42 PM #81 | GenesisSaga posted... I suppose I never really thought about it, but I think I'd have to agree with the vocal majority here in that there would have to be more than just the five high summoners. Yeah basically. For Spira to not just perpetually be a pile of rubble the downtime of Sin has to be pretty significant. I think 30-40 reps is probably the minimum you're looking at based on how the game talks about the duration of the calm and the length of the pilgrimage etc. Hundreds is probably too much but hundred, singluar, is also plausible. Each cycle would need to be around 10 years for that which wouldn't be too weird. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Lopen 07/06/25 12:42:19 PM #73 | Mewtwo59 posted... Okay, 5 and not 3. Whatever. It's still a far cry from "hundreds" I'm pretty sure it's implied as many more than those 5 due to how the calm is discussed. Those 5 are just the immortalized ones. Lopen 07/06/25 12:37:06 PM #71 | Inviso posted... Even the part you're playing gives evidence Tidus is right that you're ignoring. v_charon posted... One of the Besaid priests even comes to Wakka to ask him for help, because he's concerned about how long it's been. He does this right in front of Tidus before walking off with Wakka who says the rules say they can't interfere v_charon posted... the priest in Besaid simply says "precepts must be obeyed!". Who is right here, like seriously? Like this is important nuance to that first scene you're just glossing over to bash Tidus more Like yes I agree Tidus at this point of the game is still very much "annoying" but the core conflict he has with societal norms, the message is always there that he's not doing this because he's some arrogant jerk that just doesn't respect the society but because stuff around him just doesn't make sense. --- No problem! Lopen 07/06/25 12:34:08 PM #68 | Mewtwo59 posted... It was literally two times. Braska and some other guy. Like I don't know the exact number but the game literally has a very specifically defined 1000 year timeskip. Are you thinking there were 500 year calms. I dont think the game ever defines the exact number but it's implied to happen many many many times with the calms not lasting all that long. --- No problem! Lopen 07/06/25 12:27:00 PM #65 | I actually don't mind disliking Tidus I just think Inviso is trying WAY TOO HARD to come off as very justified about it and is either 1. Trying to "improve" things that are very much working as intended 2. Nitpicking stuff that is basically harmless Like "Tidus comes off as whiny and is kind of a jerk sometimes" is a completely valid reason to dislike him. Just leave it at that. Why do you need to stretch into a 40 paragraph dissertation. I can explain why I vehemently dislike Zidane in basically a few sentences. I do not need spin every single scene involving the guy into something terrible because it's not. It's just the bad scenes he has really sour me on him and the not bad scenes don't redeem him. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Lopen 07/06/25 12:16:17 PM #59 | Like There is evidence Tidus is justified, as a genuinely good person and not an arrogant one, in basically everything he does, and he ends up correct because that's what guided him. You as the player are supposed to pick up on it as well. You for whatever reason choose not to and pretend he was just an arrogant culturally insensitive prick who just happened to be right about stuff not being as it seems. But like that's on you not the writing. The writing paints a pretty clear narrative that you choose not to absorb because you think Tidus comes off as whiny when he's hungry, can't instantly lift a sword, or he looks like Meg Ryan or whatever and you can't wash yourself of those early game impressions and want to use those to color the entire story of the game to the point where you're nitpicking a cursory glance through binoculars as some awful lecherous thing. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
Topic | Inviso Replays Final Fantasy X (The Playthrough!) *SPOILERS WITHIN* |
Lopen 07/06/25 11:55:16 AM #58 | Man you're totally missing the point Tidus saying something less brash than "like I care" or being justified in going in totally undermines what the intent for the character arc is. He is SUPPOSED to come off as in the wrong here. However he is motivated by pure emotions. He wants to know why things are not because he's an insufferable asshole but because things don't seem right at first glance to him and no one will tell him why things are as they are and the generally accepted thing is to accept the way things are because that's the way things are. And ultimately he ends up correct because a damn important theme of the story is you shouldn't just blindly accept traditions and stuff and not question things that don't make sense just because society or authorities tell you you should just accept. Him coming off as right right away would just dumb everything down. An important part of everything is that it comes off as he's wrong, gets humbled, but in spite of attempting to be more respectful as things go on he perseveres in questioning things because it still seems wrong. And ultimately he's right-- and that SHOULD matter to you. He questions things not out of sheer arrogance but because stuff doesn't seem right-- and it doesn't seem right because it isn't. If Tidus is a "more likeable character" to you the ending of FFX is Yuna completes the pilgrimage and Sin is born again. Great story. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Lopen 07/05/25 6:21:56 PM #48 | Mewtwo59 posted... Did they say that Yuna had her guardians with her? I can kind of get it if Tidus thought Yuna was alone, but if she had Kimahri and Lulu with her it makes what Tidus did worse, because what's this idiot going to do if he's presented with a situation experienced guardians like Kimahri and Lulu couldn't handle? I potentially agree with this but this just speaks to him being an idiot not culturally insensitive. Which if you want to say early game Tidus is an idiot I would agree with you. I just think there's a lot of stretching to paint everything he does in the worst possible light. It's not something much "culturally insensitive" as being concerned to the point of being reckless about it. I'd call the intention for early game Tidus to be "flawed but likable" and I would say the game succeeds at that. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Lopen 07/05/25 6:05:26 PM #42 | Espeon posted... And at this point, Yevon has been painted entirely as a benevolent religion (including being praised by Wakka, who has been the nicest person Tidus has met since getting sucked up by Sin) Uhh not really it's more presented as "do this because you should do this" and Tidus being like "but why tho"-- there isn't really anything to suggest it's benevolent early game other than the nice guy with the ball saying it's good. --- No problem!
