Also, talk to your therapist about your self-medication with alcohol. That's something they should absolutely know about (if nothing else, many psychiatric medications can have some very harmful interactions with alcohol and your drinking habits will therefore affect what you can be safely prescribed), and they can likely help you find better coping mechanisms and work yourself off of being so dependent on it.

yeah definitely always be honest with your medical professionals. it only hurts you when you lie.

You could put a car in the driveway to make it more obvious, or just make it more obvious someone is home some other way.

Unless you prefer this as a way to "trap" thieves, but even in that case video evidence that someone might have trespassed is not as clear cut as some think that it proves she had ill intentions or did something. Even in the case you have something more than that you better be able to know exactly who it is and not just some rando that lives nearby.

My neighbor says people come into his property to look at his car parked outside so I'd rather not do that either lol

I never found that owning a home was more work than renting. That said, I bought a brand new house and the company that built had to come and sort out anything that went wrong with it for the first ten years, and I only lived there for three.

Yeah mine is a new build too so I just have random things here and there for now that fail. But it's still more work than renting because I'm responsible for managing the repairs and paying for them personally.

Yeah because most homeowners were fortunate enough to buy before 2021 lol. But really, yeah you don't have to be a millionaire but you better either have two decent incomes or one really good one. Either that or you have to move somewhere that absolutely nobody wants to live far as hell away from any halfway big city

That doesn't negate what I said. Most homeowners are not millionaires. I'm certainly not.

It really bothers me because I get abuse from customers all the time at my job because people don't know how insurance works, they don't understand what's actually covered, and they're a layperson being denied money. People already hate insurance companies and have driven a reputation that nothing is covered because they just assume that nothing is covered because they got a denied claim.

These people are doing nothing to dispel the idea that we are actually regular people with empathy and compassion trying to help them understand their claim and do what is right by their contract. It just makes us look like the pieces of shit they think we are. I try really hard to make sure upset customers end a call with an understanding, even if they don't like the outcome going on. These people just look like assholes.

Side by side, I believe. Second floor. Plus, within waking distance of work, which is great.

Luckily, I dont love in a HCOL area, so I got this for a good price. Minnesota is still affordable thankfully, while still have a strong economy. I genuinely think our weather will keep us from ever being gentrified the way some other states have.

I just always caution people to NEVER BUY BOTTOM FLOOR CONDOS in a stacked property. All the water intrusions in the building will come into your unit and flood causing damage. 9 times out of 10 you will need to file on your own insurance policy because there is no negligence. You will be filing constant water loss claims and paying deductibles without recovery.

Canada, yes. A one bedroom apartment is minimum $1500 a month here. Minimum wage is something like $1800 a month. I make well above minimum wage but after taxes and so on there isn't enough left st the end of the month to put away for a rainy day fund and a deposit on a house. In my town a $400k home wod be a fixer uper.

Yeah, housing costs here are about that much. It's like $1200 for a studio, $1800 for a one bedroom mostly. You can find a range of $1500 - $4,500 for a one bedroom depending where you're at. Minimum wage here just went to $14.35 on January 1st of this year. But, that's a struggle amount to even rent anymore. Rent is constantly rising.

I kinda saw I was getting phased out of my preferred rental area in 2019 and rushed to buy a house. It is really lucky I was shopping at that time. I also got a grant for $18,500 from the state government to go towards my down payment and closing costs. If I didn't have that, I would never have been able to buy a house.

This was a big reason I was I insistent on either a Condo (which I ended up buying) or a townhouse. Yeah, HOA fees are annoying, but it is comforting knowing the emergencies are covered. Dont care about the yard or anything of that sort.

I refuse to live under an HOA after handling claims involving them at work and seeing what they do. I was lucky enough to get a house in a non-HOA neighborhood so that was great. It would be nice to have my neighborhood have more cohesive greenery all over and stuff to look nicer but I'd rather live on a street with a guy who has 18 broken down cars parked around his house then deal with an HOA.

Did you at least buy a top floor condo? Or is it side by side?

I was able to make use of a first time homebuyer's program to get into my home. I paid maybe $2,500 out of pocket to buy a house lol. Then I got a month of financial break because you don't pay your mortgage for the first month. Then it was like paying rent again except towards my own home. I couldn't believe how lucky I got.

Seems to be a trend with a lot of people in customer service jobs.

Like, the stories of "You wouldn't believe this crazy call I got today.." that is fine. I like those. But recording calls and posting them on the internet just feels a bit wrong, even if it is funny. I don't think anyone would be laughing if I showed someone's W2 and said "Hey, look how little this VP gets payed!" even though it is fully possible for me to do that.

I agree with what you said about verbal recall vs recording and posting for internet scrutiny. It just feels very very very slimy especially in my profession. Insurance is so highly regulated. I wouldn't be surprised if the DOI or companies start to address a trend like this. It's not a good look.

As a customer, would you love knowing you were on the phone with a claim specialist and they recorded themselves eyerolling at everything you were saying or posting them sternly explaining things to you for internet points? I'd be mortified even if no one knew it was me on the other side and I'd lose a lot of faith in my insurance company and switch immediately.

Would that not conflict with company protocol? You know, client-expert confidentiality and all that? What about that vocalized disclaimer about calls being recorded for QA purposes? Surely, their videos would be enough to get them the figurative axe?

I would hope so. I almost want to find where these people live and send the videos to the departments of insurance in their state because I just find this so egregious. I don't really care if you don't know as a viewer who they're talking to. It's a private business conversation. We only record calls ourselves for quality assurance so why are they broadcasting?

And are they telling people they're recording the call for other than quality assurance purposes or does it not matter because you can only hear one party?

It's just all unethical.

I find it so unethical and violating for the customers. I hope they all get found out and fired.

I just saw this one:

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPR3jrb2k/

This should be a 100% private conversation. I don't care if there's no SPI or PII in the video. An examination under oath (not examination of oath as this woman keeps saying) is a serious legal proceeding where you testify under penalty of perjury and is completed by a licensed attorney. You are also allowed to have your own representation. If someone is under SIU investigation and need to sit for an EUO that is extremely stressful. This type of conversation should never be broadcast out to the general public. It's an extremely private matter.
