The thing with Kojima is he makes a couple good predictions but jams a ton of schlock, pseudoscience, and women with tortured pasts who don't like clothes in there too. Everyone tends to ignore the latter and focus on the correct predictions and call him a genius. I find it's best to just play the games and enjoy them rather than try to think super hard about the story.

i hate bayonetta, i'm not gonna lie. tiny head, big weird lanky limbs, dancing around like there's an invisible stripper pole every three steps, even though she sounds and talks like she's some dignified noblewoman, then the whole "my clothes are my hair and my hair is my power, so i use my power and lose my clothes oops" thing. it's cringy and all over the place, but i guess that's an anime games thing, and people like them because of it, not in spite of it

The character is also genuinely popular. Smash is a great example of this. People really like her.

Your premise doesn't make sense. The upset people you point to are on ResetEra, but those same people also had the same issues with Bayonetta and 2B. They were always upset with female character designs like this, this is just the newest example.

I'd say OoT is one though. Far from saying it's a bad game, I just don't think it will register the same for someone playing it for the first time today. It just wouldn't have that wow factor that was so much part of the experience when playing it in 1998.

The N64 version is really hard to play because the frame rate and draw distance are awful, but the 3DS version is great.

Maybe, but all the coolest ideas are in books 2 and 3. There are absolutely no interesting characters though. Also the sexism gets pretty blatant in the latter books. I enjoyed them for the concepts and to see what would happen. It's a divisive series.

I just read the first book over the past few days since I'd been meaning to for a while and the TV series motivated me to stop procrastinating and I was not particularly thrilled. felt like I read a plot/concept outlinefor a story rather than an actual proper novel; bbasically none of the characters have any personality and things just constantly happen out of nowhere with little warning or explanation. feels like there's probably some good core idea there but as it is the book is basically nonsense

The entire series is a concept series. It doesn't really have interesting characters. They tried to fix that with the Netflix show and it's debatable if that worked, but the main plot points are there, so I think it's fine. I personally enjoy a lot of the ideas in the trilogy but don't actually consider it well written fiction. Would be better as like the background lore to a fiction setting or something.

A large number of game projects in China are actually a grift. That's why people were so worried about Black Myth: Wukong, because very few projects actually make it to completion or release, and if they do get released are disappointing and abandoned by the devs. The big ones that are great tend to come from a small group of reliable devs, like Mihoyo.

Depending on the specific sub-genre I think random encounters are better. Like in DRPGs you really need random encounters to keep the survival aspect going. You see this in the more modern Shin Megami Tensei games where they still keep a lot of DRPG elements but you can just dodge every enemy making the dungeons non-threatening. Compare to classic games where you could get wiped by a random encounter even in a town just trying to go heal. It creates a lot of tension that just isn't there anymore.

I buy good games. I didn't realize there were so many layers to determining if buying a game was ethical or not now. I got the Hogwarts Legacy one (Rowling is directly connected and very publicly a bigot), but now we have to see which consulting company worked on a game? It's like trying to make sure no one in the supply chain for your product was using exploitive labor. It's basically impossible. And then you have to determine if the particular thing they're accused of is even that bad. The worst I heard about this company is they refuse to hire white people. I just can't get that upset over it. Maybe I should be outraged, but it just isn't doing much for me.

Grew up in the 80s-90s, college in the 00s. I definitely got references to classic films from the 70s, 80s, or even earlier, but I think it's because we didn't have much for entertainment options. You rented stuff from the video store or caught stuff on TV. You could only afford a few games and downloading a movie off the internet was a major commitment in terms of time until high speed internet came around. Now there is so much high quality stuff with such wide availability you don't really have incentive to seek out old stuff. And that's fine. If they want to watch old stuff they can, but if they don't it isn't the end of society or something.
