I usually just go with the flow. I like to finish most sidequests and all dlc in a playthrough, and I usually hit max level with a good amount left to do. I do list which perks I want for a build and make sure I don't end up being forced to pick something not on the list when I level up.

And getting in good with the Followers of the Apocalypse can net you an unending supply of Science, Repair, Speech, Barter, Medical, and Survival skill magazines, which is a temporary 20 point boost if you have Comprehension. Great if you want to do a mission that has a skill check that you can't meet normally.

Funnily enough though, Dead Money is the hardest dlc to get the most out of at a low level if you like having all the dialogue and skill options available. A lot of them are high, and there aren't as many resources to draw on to boost skills in there.

i did something similar to get the ninja perk by raising my skill to 70, equipping blood-nap which for some reason adds 10 sneak in a way that makes the game think it's permanent, so you can take ninja at 70 despite requiring 80, but i wonder if i could actually be at 60, then blood-nap to 70 and use the method you described to get ninja that way

I didn't know Blood Nap had that effect. Most equipped effects and temporary boosts don't count when you level up.

The method of boosting a skill during a level up to choose a perk, and then going back and reallocating the points works for all perks though.

More like 75-80. When you level up, you can boost it up to 90, take the perk, and the go back and invest the points elsewhere. The perk will still be selected when you go forward again.

And with all the dlc's extra levels and books with Comprehension (and abusing the Skilled trait bug if you feel like it), it's easy to get a bunch of skills to 100.

Jury Rigging is the perk to end all your armor, and many weapon, woes.

If you break the bank at the casino, one voucher is deposited every three days at the bunker (and they accumulate). Just make sure to use the initial voucher while you're still in there for the vending machine code to initiate.

That voucher gets you 1000 chips, which can get you a ton of chems, super stimpacks, and, most importantly, weapon repair kits.

Practically unlimited weapon repair kits is the main reward imo. The recipe to make them on your own sucks, and even with Jury Rigging it's hard to find stuff to fix up certain weapons.

Depends on the food and rice it's used for.

I do like Kikkoman on jasmine rice, or paired with Chinese food.

Gotta be Aloha for family recipes, with short grain rice, or on eggs.
