I just... I know it gets said about every adaptation ever and often times fans of games/comics/books/whatevs whine too much about little changes here or there but this is just so different in so many ways it's basically only Halo so it can rake in the name recognition bucks.

The Halos don't win wars... I mean I suppose they can... but not in a great way. Master Chief wasn't a rogue element that needed supervision, he was a soldier that did as he was told (until 5 maybe I dunno) and did it well. Cortana was an AI assistant not Master Chief's keeper.

I don't mind the human lady with the covenant (it's off but I kinda like the idea of the covenant having their reclaimer). And I assume Master Chief isn't Steve Downes so they can take off his helmet at some point, which I think is antithetical to his coolness but whatever.

I do think it mostly looks nice but it's just so different. I'd have liked to see the games adapted but I don't think that'll ever happen now. If this is good they'll just want more of this storyline, if it's bad they'll just say Halo doesn't make for good adaptation.

I saw people on reddit saying that he was being told he couldn't stand there for filming and being pulled away from that particular area. A mixture of a bit overly aggressive guiding from the security man and a language barrier not helping.

Not to say IOC or China are free from scrutiny but I think we oughtn't conflate the more tame stuff with actual problems.

So this does seem kinda unfair given what I know about the autobahn (...which is just that it's a road in Germany with no speed limit) but I can get why. If someone had crossed in front of him there would have been no way for him to brake in time. It's not possible for that to be considered safe driving unless he has superhuman reflexes.

If they want to set an example that this speed is not okay I think they shouldn't do more than a warning but they oughta set that limit visibly somewhere if they're concerned. It can't be "You can go as fast as you want unless we retroactively decide you went too fast."

Wait 'til ya hear about held items (another thing that wouldn't have existed in universe yet).

Played a few more hours and it is a lot of fun. Exploring the world is fun and the agile/strong styles are a neat mixup. Also the damage is really weird. Everything feels like it does a bunch of damage even if your pokemons a few levels higher. But it does kinda add a nice challenge.

As far as story (I've only just gotten past the first Noble) I'm enjoying it. As mentioned, I've got a low bar but there's a bunch of characters and the way they're building the story and threat is pretty intriguing. Pacing seems fine but given the nature of the game it kinda seems like it'll be down to you on how fast things move. If you take long breaks to go explore and catch things it's gonna break up the story quite a bit. You might be able to rush it but I think with the way damage scales now it might be pretty hard to not just get wiped by some random pokemon that decides to jump you.

I mean, it already sounds like you've made your decision but, for what it's worth, I'm liking it a lot. I'm only a couple/few hours in and it's very different from the rest of the series (so I can't answer your questions). As someone who likes catching pokemon I'm really liking what they did with the gameplay loop. It's kinda like Let's Go (mainly about catching tons of pokemon and repeats, though this time to fill the dex in addition to levelling your team) but the change in overworld gameplay makes it a bit more engaging. Unlike LGPE you can fight wild pokemon in this and sometimes you need to but you are meant to be catching tons of them. I'm enjoying the story but like I said I'm pretty early still (and I'm pretty easy to please with pokemon stories). Also regional forms for the starters is a neat twist that hasn't been done yet so I'm a fan of the idea. And Cyndaquil is awesome.

That all being said Sword and Shield plus their DLC were my favorite of the series (and I've been playing since Red/Blue). I liked the characters and the world they built (Gym battles in sports arenas with crowd chanting mixing into the music is amazing) and the wild area and raids were awesome additions to the gameplay loop. There were problems for sure (tiny routes and not building it around the xp share did make it too easy) but I put a ton of time into it and loved it.

I feel like as long as pokemon remains a relatively simple turn-based rock-paper-scissors that lets me collect a bunch of 'em and build fun teams (just for fun... don't think I'll ever reach the point where I'm worried about EV training) I'm not going anywhere.

So I dunno... if you like catching pokemon it's pretty sweet. If you just want trainer battles that test your mettle then you're probably outta luck, might as well just head over to Showdown.

I should give this show another shot. I haven't seen it since I was a kid and I didn't really care for it.

I do remember the episode where Hank didn't have a butt and then he raced a tractor and something happened with his fake butt (Hank's Back Story is a great name for that episode).

Actually looking at the rest of the posts I do also kinda remember the "That's my purse, I don't know you" episode (Bobby Goes Nuts is also a really good name for that).

I'm not really into too many of the games from that era but I suppose I'd take another Link to the Past sequel if I could choose anything. Link Between Worlds was awesome and 2D Zelda > 3D Zelda so more of those would be great.

And then remember that there are people who have made it rich because of TikTok and feel down again.

I can't play guitar but I am excited to take the lead nonetheless. Look, we can make this work. We'll just say that we're experimental... or something.

One Finger Death Punch 2

I don't know how much I can say about this one but I thought I'd give it a go.

I love the first quite a bit and it tends to be the game I pop on if I just want a quick thing to play. The levels are nice and quick I'm certainly not great at it but it's really cool when you get into the rhythm of a tough level. You feel like a badass dodging hits and flinging maces at dudes.

I think I initially decided to pick up the first because of a Total Biscuit video on it, I remember him being oddly excited by kinda a silly small game (had to go back and watch... he gets so excited, it's great). It looked like those sweet stick fight animations I used to watch for hours (though maybe not quite as dope without Me First and the Gimme Gimmes playing underneath).

They're just silly fun that are just as entertaining to look at even given their simplicity. Dunno what else to say.

Most of the games I'm excited about this year are like... on the edge of worry.

Pokemon Legends Arceus - I'll probably enjoy regardless. I'm a sucker for Pokemon and as someone who really likes the catching aspect I'm pretty excited for this one.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - I more or less enjoyed Borderlands 3 (though still haven't played the DLC) but the writing was... not good. I wish they'd get Anthony Burch back.
Saint's Row - Again I think the writing of the series started downhill after 2 but some of the stuff they've said about this one seems like they might lean more into cool badass than silly badass so here's to hoping.

Some of it could just be that they don't trust this community to handle the conversation very well. They probably figure it doesn't make sense to let the conversation fester 'cause even if you do get some encouraging thoughts and prayers there's still bound to be some disgusting replies that could do added harm to an already bad situation.

I don't even think it's all down to culpability (maybe part but I don't think it's the driving force). Just from a general kindness standpoint it's probably the right move (I would hope they try to point the user in the right direction after the modding as well).

If you want a mobile Picross game, I've put more hours than I care to admit into Nonograms Katana, which is free (with ad banners and microtransactions that really only affect the meta-progression gimmicks the game has and do not in any way interfere with your ability to do puzzles). There's a ridiculous amount of content in there, some of it quite challenging (they go up to 80*80, and there are both B&W and colour puzzles).

I'll definitely look into it. I love stupidly big puzzles. It's so satisfying seeing it unfold. Hungry Cat has something like that that are just a series of small puzzles (I think only up to 10x15) that piece together for a large picture. Which is still kinda cool but there's something cooler about slowly piecing the whole thing together.

Ooh I want that one. I love picross (dozens of hours on the Switch Picross games (beaten 1 currently working through 2) as well as I dunno how long in Hungry Cat Picross (or Nonogram after they renamed it for some reason) on my phone and then all the time in Pokemon Picross (probably too much given it's weird pay-to-play systems) and Picross 3d on 3DS). I also like visual novelly type stories like Danganronpa and Persona.

It's so good but it goes to quick for how pricey it is.

That's sad that is was 18 days before 100 but at least she got a pretty long life and was pretty much universally loved in the past few decades.

I wonder if you could make it work by breaks in the fighting or cutaways to squads of characters not currently fighting. But still have it take place during some big battle. I feel like XMen could totally work with the large cast of characters.

I enjoyed it. It does go really hard on the message and can be a little overly silly at times but it's really fun. I had also kinda given up on Jennifer Lawrence but she was great in this. Mark Rylance was also so good... I hated him so much.

I've never been super into football but I played the games here and there. I think I preferred his commentary in the games to whoever they switched to (Madden seemed more 'fun') but that was ages ago...

I think it's pretty awesome that he was famous for decades and I don't think I've heard any controversies about him. So definitely earns some props there.

I agree. It was so good and then just got weird. I actually think it'd have been way more impactful if the next season was just another Squid Game that he somehow interferes with or whatever as a late season surprise.

I didn't mind the old man twist that much... it was dumb but whatever the whole thing is kinda odd anyway. They definitely should've had a more airtight way of getting him the card instead of the rose. Like just have a card be sticking out of his door on return or something.

I think the cop/brother thing was actually the most eye-rolling twist for me. Kinda sunk down to like soap opera level twist at that point.

I think I might've enjoyed 2 over 1. I watched 'em all for the first time like a couple years ago or so and I can barely remember much about them. But from what I do remember, I didn't really love any of 'em but I enjoyed 2 the most. I think.

So we gotta try to recruit some sorta big musical act that can draw attention back, right? Maybe we can work together to try to put on some big festival or whatevs and eventually we'll learn that we only needed each other.

I kinda don't even get why they have that section of seats. I suppose so they can sell more tickets but I imagine that some of the movie goers would rather wait for a different showing than suffer those seats for 2ish hours.

That said I think I've only ever seen that section used like once (Endgame) in the how ever many years I've been going to my current theatre.

I would like to +1 Bofuri as well. Its fun attitude makes up for the kinda generic VRMMO setting. I really like the cast of characters a whole lot.

Shadows House

It's a nice storybook kinda feel and the main character is a sweet bundle of joy. Also I love the ending song.

I don't think Nintendo overcharges quite as much. It certainly happens sometimes like with the 3DS launch and Skyward Sword's rerelease but for the most part the consoles are pretty affordable. And while I don't like Apple, their phones do tend to be some of the most powerful on the market (maybe not the most powerful... I don't know much about phones) which is definitely not true for Nintendo.

My inner voice isn't typically there when I'm making decisions... just comes around to judge the decision I've already made.

Let me pause in Dark Souls and have stat and tooltip explanations be intuitive and comprehensive.

Ooh speaking of Dark Souls... Controversial opinion but I wish Dark Souls let me decide when to respawn enemies. I like the world, the combat, and the boss fights but I do not enjoy the boss runs. Just please give me an easy mode that lets me throw myself at the bosses over and over (don't change anything like damage or health... just make the boss runs less annoying... as an option).

I think I would go the other way and ask for more slots. Weapon durability was fine, but not when you cant hold a bunch of weapons. Even after opening all the slots, it wasnt enough

This is gonna be too long a rant and sorry for going so much on BotW but I feel like that wouldn't change much. When I spent way too long bombing a shrine boss because my weapons broke only to be rewarded with another bunch of breakable crap (and the whatever thing that is the actual reward for beating the shrine) I was extremely disheartened. It wasn't hard, it was just tedious because it took away the actually fun swordplay and forced me into an unfun chore of bombing and running over and over again. That, learning that the Koroks were just in service of more space to juggle more crap, and being rewarded with a unique weapon that was also breakable after a divine beast completely turned me off ever going back to that game. The breakable weapons just discourage exploration and save the devs from making meaningful combat differences. Instead of encouraging switching weapons through weapon variety and enemy combat design they forced it on the player with durability.

There was so much cool stuff in there but man... it was that tedium of constantly recycling through weapons. Honestly, make the master sword and divine beast reward weapons (I'm assuming each beast gives something like that in addition to the power... I only beat the zora one) unbreakable and that game would be way better. Still not perfect (the small variety of interesting unlockable equipment and limited dungeon variety also hold it back) but certainly more engaging.

Oh man what I wouldn't give for a sequel that left the RTS stuff behind. Though I think Schafer stands by the RTS elements so that's probably unlikely.

Outside of Pedro Pascal the second was just extremely bad all the way through. I will never understand how the Steve Trevor bit made it past multiple people all the way through writing, filming, editing, and release. It's just so oddly unnecessary and dumb.
