And it's not exactly recent (2017), but I highly, highly recommend playing Ys 8, if you haven't already. Like 5 minutes into the story, your ship crashes on an abandoned island and that is the focus of the story. Exploring the island, while finding other survivors, which in turn help you explore more of the island. It's a fun loop that really keeps you pushing through the game.
