But I was pretty good at snaking in that game so usually I'd stay behind the pack at first until I got a star for an item and then I'd snake my way to first and keep the star handy as blue shell insurance. Or you could stay just ahead of 2nd place so the blue shell hits both of you. Or just get so far ahead that a blue shell hit is just a minor inconvenience. True story, I worked at a burger joint in college, but in place of the beef patty you could get salmon, chicken, or a portobello mushroom. Some people liked their burgers to be a little pink, even had a regular who liked it pretty damn rare, basically just sear it on each side lol. But one time we got an order where they requested a chicken breast.....mid rare. And I mean we have warning signs and the cashier I'm sure reiterated it.
