I don't think he quite gets the credit that he deserves.

His name should be up there with Hollywood elites such as Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. I think his typecasting hurt him later in his career. By the 1970s, he'd developed something of a reputation for being cast as what White people thought a perfect Black man should be. But that typecasting wasn't his fault.
