Are Kingdom Hearts III and the Smash appearance going to mean big things for Sora?

I find it a little interesting how his best contest appearances were in the time between the releases of Kingdom Hearts II and 358/2 Days, almost as if this site started turning against Kingdom Hearts when it became clear the series was going to be milked with a million handheld installments before getting to a real Kingdom Hearts III.

I forgot to add to the last post, but I guess I should take anything bad someone says about a tentpole Disney film with a grain of salt from now on. I went into Black Widow thinking it would be a 6/10 movie tilting towards a 5, instead it was 6 but more towards 7. I can understand animosity towards Disney but it's not like other studios are faring a whole lot better TBH.

Yeah at this point I'm just saying whatever comes into my head. Clearly a good approach.

At the risk of bringing up Captain Marvel again, the reason why I brought up reviews earlier is because when I watched Joker earlier this year I felt it was around the same level of quality. If you slash 10% off of Captain Marvel's RT score then it's around the same as Joker, so to me it makes sense that up until Eternals every MCU movie was getting slightly inflated reviews by critics who were just glad to see a new MCU movie. It seems we've gotten past that point, maybe due to the inundation of MCU content this year. I just find it hard to believe that Eternals could possibly be that much worse than the MCU's weak links.

I was also kind of intrigued by Josh Brolin saying he preferred working on Dune to working on any of his MCU movies. I guess I shouldn't really be surprised though seeing how he can probably thank the Coen Brothers for his 21st century career resurrection. At least I saw No Country for Old Men last year so I know Brolin for more than just playing a big purple man.

In fairness though I started watching their review of Captain Marvel but then checked out the minute they acted as if Brie Larson didn't want white men to see the movie (that is one heck of an exaggeration, from I DON'T CARE WHAT A 40-YEAR OLD WHITE DUDE THINKS OF A WRINKLE IN TIME to not wanting white men to see her movies? Never mind she said that about a movie she wasn't even in, so at least it's not as low as how people like Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill reacted to their movies getting bad reviews).

That's fair. Also I did in fact see Black Widow. And I meant that more to come off as a general compliment, though I definitely understand it doesn't come off appropriately (plus calling attention to it). Whoops. Also she doesn't like that nickname.

I'm still amazed how much some people hate Brie Larson online, but her already being very popular even without her Marvel appearances and never having complained about it herself do go many ways towards mitigating that. But still, getting this upset over what shouldn't even be a particularly revolutionary statement? People act like she's some ungodly Karen or something (even in that regard, there are quite a few in Hollywood who are much worse like Elizabeth Banks and Sophia Takal). It just seems incredibly out-of-step to me for these people who act like Brie Larson didn't exist until that outburst where she demanded that there be more film critics who aren't white and male. I mean, I had never heard of her before her Oscar win, but still!

This is my favorite game of all time, but I'm currently watching an LP and my god I never noticed how stupid the bad guys are. Also Ashley.

TBH I feel like the vast majority of video game plots exist only to give explanation for why you're going from point A to point B and I rate them as such. It's a reason why I rated Ocarina of Time much higher than most here did.

I'd say I don't get what Brie Larson did that gets some people so mad at her, but based on how some reacted to Scarlett Johansson complaining about how Black Widow was hyper-sexualized in Iron Man 2 I guess demanding there be more movie critics who aren't white and male really is bad enough. Kind of ironic these people make fun of "social justice warriors" getting offended about everything given how triggered they are by anyone saying anything remotely bad about white people or men.

On that note, Scarlett Johansson was arguably no bigger a name when she joined the MCU compared to Brie Larson when she joined (coincidentally Larson was rejected for the Black Widow role for being too young), and her performance in Iron Man 2 was oft-criticized for being dull. So hating on Brie Larson while letting Scarlett Johansson off the hook reeks of Phase 1 favoritism among other things.

Considering how boring I found the first Thor I can't really agree with Phase 1 favoritism! And I have a hard time believing Eternals could really be that much worse than movies like it or Black Widow.

On a more positive note, while watching Black Widow I felt like I found Scarlett Johansson even more attractive than I remembered her being. I guess her finally being in the spotlight helped so she was no longer just one of the Avengers. It felt kind of nice seeing the character one last time after getting attached to her through the other Marvel movies (I guess I'm going to love Winter Soldier aren't I?).

I forgot about Captain Marvel already being a very contentious character even before her movie (in the comics, that is). So I guess people who follow comics were already going to hate the movie while everyone else just sees her as another Marvel superhero?

On a similar note, I find it annoying how people complain about Black Panther being labelled the "first Marvel movie with a black lead" while saying that should be Blade. At worst it's pure semantics, and at best outright wrong since Blade was only a Marvel movie in that it's based on Marvel comics whereas Black Panther is actually made by Marvel Studios. Not to mention people acting like Black Panther was mostly promoted through diversity (I have no idea how true this is, though obviously him being the first person of color to get their own solo MCU movie was a pretty big milestone at the time).

Many of these people act like Eternals was marketed mostly off of diversity, showing off how many times this was touted in interviews. Again, I don't really know how true this is, although it does seem like most of the marketing was focused on the characters and not the plot. Even then, drawing attention to their non-interventionist ways was perhaps not the best idea.

Also it's nice how they act like diversity is such a bad word. Yeah it obviously shouldn't come at the expense of story but the intense hatred these people exhibit makes it seem like they're against the whole concept.

One thing to ask not Eternals-related: why has there been so much pushback to Steve travelling back in time to be with Peggy when there was previously negative reactions to Steve hooking up with her daughter Sharon? I guess the idea is that Steve has moved on since then, which would be lost on me since I haven't seen Winter Soldier and don't really remember Civil War.

I was half-thinking of posting more shenanigans from the, uh, anti-Disney/progressive group but it's all the same old stuff that makes no sense when you put two brain cells together. I was caught off-guard by how much bile was being spewed towards Captain Marvel, including someone saying they thought Elektra was 1000 times better (lol) in addition to two people giving me non-answers when I asked how an intangible entity like Disney is able to buy something tangible like box-office, and someone insisting that Black Panther was a bad movie that got a pass solely on the grounds of diversity. Nothing new really and it's why I stopped following it to such an extent. The fact I keep bringing it up though says words about the lens I primarily see the MCU through.

It's mostly these peoples' beef with Captain Marvel I don't get, despite me personally finding the movie to not do anything well beyond what the MCU typically does well. Actually no I do get it because saying anything bad about white men or sexualization gets this kind of backlash. Eep.

Thor 1 is my least favorite MCU movie I've seen, and then probably Age of Ultron. I have not seen Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, or The Dark World though.

I'm also someone who prefers the first Captain America film to any of the Avengers movies, on the other hand. I feel like I have a bit of a soft spot for the older, more "pulpy" style of superhero movie in the vein of Darkman, The Rocketeer, and The Phantom so that's probably it.

I didn't necessarily mean the backlash started with Rise of Skywalker. I cited "most of the remakes" for a reason.

God those things are so forgettable. In hindsight all the fuss about Avatar leaving surprisingly little impact for such a financially successful movie looks quaint. I think your average person on the street remembers it better than, say, any of the sequel trilogy movies, let alone the Disney remakes (I'd say "live-action" but The Lion King remake isn't technically even that).

It's neither here nor there but it seems somewhat arbitrary for the remakes of Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King to be graded Rotten on RT when even the Beauty and the Beast remake was deemed Fresh (there's a movie no one talks about! 2nd-highest grossing movie of 2017 behind The Last Jedi, wow). Similar for Rise of Skywalker to suddenly have an RT score in the 50s when its two predecessors got scores in the 90s. Although yeah at this point I'm probably just doing some mental gymnastics.

I do honestly think Rise of Skywalker would have still graded fresh on the Tomatometer if it hadn't come out after Avengers: Endgame (not that this constitutes a defense of the movie, mind). Not to mention 2019 was widely agreed to be a much better year for movies than 2015 and 2017. By the end of the day though RT is really a rough guideline and nothing more. My dad taught me when I was young not to put so much stock in reviews since the reviewers have their own personal biases and that's becoming increasingly evident. I guess I'm more complaining about others putting too much stock in RT.

I get the feeling some people (you know who) just take glee whenever Disney stumbles. Yeah it's an evil money-grubbing corporation, but I don't typically let my feelings about a company get in the way of my opinions. At least I try not to in any case.

Honestly Disney hasn't really made fewer bad decisions than the other major studios, they've just made more good ones. I just get the feeling that since 2019 professional critics have started to turn on Disney and have let that cloud their judgements on movies like most of the remakes and Rise of Skywalker. Yeah those movies aren't very good but there's not much reason for them to suddenly turn on Disney otherwise.

Not entirely related but I watched Speed for the first time in years last month and the whole movie felt like a practical joke being played on Keanu Reeves. Such a ridiculous movie with a hammy villain and Keanu reacts nonchalantly until he suddenly loses it towards the end. I loved it! Reeves was well-cast in movies like Speed and The Matrix. Good that he has gone through a memetic resurgence in popularity lately. He was supposed to play Jude Law's character in Captain Marvel but he had scheduling conflicts with John Wick 3. I think Law is a better actor but Reeves might have fit that role better.

In hindsight Reeves' stoicness in Speed reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance in Predator where he's a stoic warrior for the most part and that increases the impact of whenever he shows outrage (in that movie when Dutch gets mad at Dillon for sacrificing his friend Jim Hopper).

Also maybe the critics don't find the main characters relatable because they're non-interventionist deities? At this point there are so many asterisks when it comes to professional critics even before we take any possible outside meddling into account.

I know the real reason why Captain Marvel got her own movie before Black Widow did (because former Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter mandated every movie have a white male lead to attract audiences and Feige had to beg and plead just to get Captain Marvel greenlit, and Feige prioritized that and Black Panther because he personally wanted to see them filmed), but I can't help but wonder if maybe Captain Marvel was seen as being a more marketable character than Black Widow or Scarlet Witch. She just seems like a more larger-than-life figure compared to those two.

I get the feeling critics are being overly harsh on it due to the director being fresh off of an Oscar win, the way we've been generally getting inundated with MCU content this year, and Shang-Chi setting the bar fairly high for them.

One thing not regarding Eternals: I didn't like Loki at all, but it seems one of the most frequent criticisms of the series is that he's less competent than in prior appearances. I don't really get it, since it was easy for me to simply think Loki is bewildered at his new predicament and otherwise he's the same trickster I know and love.
