I do live in the suburbs. And yeah, I don't see why you'd need a house as a single person anyway. I wouldn't have bought this house by myself. I'd rent or get a condo.

Why would your marital status effect need for a house lol. You dont want the tax benefits? You want to waste money renting instead?

I have a condo and its more expensive than most of the houses in my area so no clue how that is supposed to be any different

My mortgage is $2.8k and it's a 410k house with 3% taxes. Probably shouldn't be buying a house that's over 4x your income (and more like 5x in a place without insane property taxes).

I mean that just proves my point, youd have to get a crappier place and/or live in the suburbs

100k is plenty enough if you are single even in a big city. Mortgage/Rent should be around 1.5K to 2K if you are single and that leaves you with 4k to spend on everything else.

If you earn 100k and your S/O other makes atleast 50k, you are pretty ok with it. Me and my wife live in Socal and make combine 150K and we have a house (2.4K mortage/Insurance/Property Tax), 2 cars and a kid and live pretty comfortably. Just think the hardest of owning a house is getting the down payment on a house. If you and your S/O has the same goals and start saving right after college from your first jobs and work your way up in 6-7 years, you can easily put a down payment before the age of 30.

My mortgage is almost 3k, youre dreaming if you think 2k is enough

i live in a large city in Ohio and my 100k salary provides me well beyond my needs. i own a home, i max my 401k and my Roth IRA, while still saving a significant portion of my take home pay.

yeah i make 160k (+70 from gf) and max out all my retirement accounts.. looking at a 500k house range, but could get approved for 800...

If i was making 400k then may 1mil would be fine

160 is extremely comfortable, i have no problem saying that's more than i make. i think contributing a hefty amount to retirement accounts is key. 24% of my salary goes to retirement and i plan to retire at 55

Things you can buy with $100,000
-multiple brand new cars at their maxed out specs or premium models from various dealerships
-a new house, fully paid for and no down payments
-you can pay for any university you want to attend to.
-buy various guns/have your own gun locker or build your own armory
-hire public maids/butlers to clean your house or do daily chores for you
-Have a secondary house that you can rent out to other people and earn passive $$$

You never have to worry about missing rent, you don't need to worry about living pay check to check, you don't need to rely on public transportation, you're effectively living the life at $100,000 a year.

and i never said 100k wasn't a lot, i'm sure there's a lot you can do with it. but for an annual salary, it's not even remotely luxurious

High taxes and the fact that a 6 figure salary only makes you comfortably middle class in some parts of California is probably why.

I took intro to engineering in hs to get out of art class and I barely passed it. I did alright in the copy this in inventor part of the class but struggled with the rest.

what is inventor? try a type of engineering that doesn't require coding. i did it minimally in college and 0% of the time at work now

Engineers in IT are stressed as well, but thats due to unrealistic expectations from their employer and not because people will die if they get it wrong
