I'd definitely argue Dedede for mid. As early as Adventure he was able to spit Kirby with enough force to shoot him into the upper atmosphere, and by Triple Deluxe he's actively shattering the Mirror Dimension and straight up beating Dark Meta Knight, who has a W against Meta Knight, who is busted. That eventually leading to Dark Mind taking Dedede's form as King D. Mind in that Kirby free-to-play game.

Like even taking out "scales to Kirby" and "could get shot", Triple Deluxe and Fighters 2 putting him around the Meta Knight level makes his ceiling scary. Post-Kumazaki Kirby scaled that whole universe like crazy.

Mannn, Terry's another one of my Top 5 (K Rool/DK/Snake/Banjo/Terry) down. Was thinking the Round of 3 would be his downfall and, sure enough, there he go. Ah well, still one of the most enjoyably fun characters in the game to hit buttons with. Usurped Falcon for my favorite "he just hits you and you die, but like, with brawling" character in the roster pretty aggressively and never let go.

B-but I had so many more pointless titles to give him...

K. Rool is, by far, my favorite Smash Bros character. Just something about his combination of subverting heavyweight traits with cheeky options whilst still falling to their weaknesses, repping his boss battles perfectly by having such a strong, linear offensive but an obvious exploitable weakness wherever his gut isn't facing (or exploiting it), and the ability to go stupidly deep to go for spikes with a predictable but highly useful recovery meld into such a fun character to play. I don't think any character is quite as fun to swap between playing seriously, screwing around, going for disrespect, or laming it out, and his expression work and animations are all so vibrant and playful, menacing and buffoonish. I'm not a big fan of Ultimate's systems, feel like SO much of it resolves around the recovery/edgeguard game, but I have never had a K Rool game where I've had a bad time.

And more than that, the story of the character - being one that was never even considered until the Smash Ballot and a surprise to the dev team that he was so beloved - is so strong to me. After years of the DKC series being turned on and called "never really that good" post-Rareware buyout, after the DK series itself being really underwhelmingly represented in Smash through 4, after the internal desire for Nintendo to distance themselves from most of Rare's creations out of respect for the original devs (except Paon, they just did whatever the Hell they wanted), seeing K. Rool play so well and be represented so RIGHT was just so, so cool.

I love this stupid character and I'm just glad he finished in the top half of the field. Because he is just dumb fat crocodile with armor. But that's better than the rest of the cast by me.

Time to save Snake and Banjo I guess lol.

I'd avoid Gamecube. It has three attack buttons that you'll cycle through (Light, Heavy, and Special) and the smaller X and Y buttons make that feel a bit awkward. Switch Pro and Dualshock work just fine in my experience.

Tested for about an hour on PC, then refunded and got it on Switch so I could compare the online directly to Smash.
