Spectre was a bit of a slog IMO. I can't say it sucked, but it felt like it dragged. Which is not the best feeling. Quantum of Solace also felt like that to me. The best ones with Craig are easily Casino Royale and Skyfall. The new one is 3rd place.

Ironically, its the funniest movie in the trilogy because it takes itself so seriously but its still really dumb and silly.
Exactly. It's so self-serious and it's also horribly acted and dumb at the same time. They were going for an epic operatic feel and it missed the mark.

Before Rome, Greeks had colonized several areas of the Italian peninsula and the island of Sicily. These colonies were collectively called Magna Graecia but that's it. Italy and Greece are 2 different things lmao.

Mainstream rock would be stuff that you could play on a station comfortably along old stuff like 90s alternative. Something like Greta Van Fleet or Five Finger Death Punch or Disturbed. Most of it sucks ass. My local station once yo-yo'd from a sick Kyuss song to a Greta Van Fleet track right after it. Just a horrendous band. Retrofetishist horses***.

There are good females out there. But I don't necessarily want to hear the newer artists doing straight up rock. Once in a while you get a cool one like Grimes or Poppy or the singer from Spiritbox (Courtney Laplante) or dare I say one of the biggest right now Olivia Rodrigo. But when I hear something like Pretty Reckless (Taylor Momsen?) I just go "Ok cool, old school rock" and I move on.

I think mainstream for rock is just a much smaller bar to clear. Unsainted by Slipknot has 169 million on Spotify. They are arguably the biggest band of their cohort still operating (late 90's, early 00's) and they're basically an arena band. But the biggest pop artist of right now is getting 1 to 2 billion streams on their biggest recent hits (ie. The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, etc.)

So basically, mainstream for rock and metal is a much smaller hurdle to jump over and they're still 1/100th the visibility of the big pop and hip hop acts.

For real though there are far worse movies. But just to keep it to blockbuster trainwrecks in the last few years, you can't go wrong with choosing Batman v Superman or The Rise of Skywalker as the biggest lumps of s***. Especially when you weigh the hype versus what the movie was intended to do.

TDKR is an outright masterpiece compared to other nonsense on here lmao. Nolan also wasn't afraid to give Batman a conclusive arc rather than the open-ended edgelord idea that he has to do the f***ing job until he dies.

NEWSFLASH: the Earth 2 Batman AKA the original 1939 comic book Batman RETIRED and died like a regular human being. So GTFO out of here with this modern age idea propagated by the last 30-35 years of Batman media that he has to die with his boots on. There's room for different interpretations.

That isn't to say that the plot was perfect. I thought it was a bit dumb. But the Batman and Catwoman arc was good. Bane was mostly good.

I gotta go with The Rise of Skywalker just because of what it represents. A half-hearted attempt to appease every segment of the viewing audience, but satisfies no one in the end. EMBARRASSING.

SIDE NOTE: I also hated the Luke Skywalker cameo in the Mandalorian S2 finale. Just CRINGE. Hey Disney, you don't need to pat me on my f***ing head every 5 minutes.

Much as I like the grunge era bands (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana), their whole "anti-rockstar" stance hampered their own selves and the rock industry as a whole arguably. These guys didn't want to play ball and be the saviours. PJ didn't make videos for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th albums. Billy Corgan was looked at as a dickhead because relative to the rest of his cohort, his rockstar ambitions were not in step with the whole slacker 90's hipster thing.

Is it any wonder that the last big rock movement was nu metal and that the biggest name Fred Durst carried himself like a goddamn star?

The industry indeed sucks. Also, the rock/metal/indie model of having a band of 4 or 5 dudes/chicks is simply not as marketable or preferable to having 1 named person and 4 or 5 no name hired guns. That's where pop and hip hop rules.

Tastes change over time. Pop-punk type stuff seems to be coming back a bit though.
The fact that pop-punk and even nu metal are a big influence on the newer metal and metalcore bands and the weird Tik Tok stuff that kids get hyped about is very pleasing to me. Anything that pisses off the boomer rock and metal fans is a bonus. That's what creates progression. At some point, Nirvana was a fresh-faced band for kids. It wasn't a band that 50 year olds talked about on a message board.

Very true. And the new bands that they hate on are actually bringing some sort of sense of innovation. Especially in metal. Metalcore and just newer artists in general that aren't pigeon-holed into a traditional genre are like 10x more exciting than hearing the 12th album from an 80's thrash band lmao.

He's basically the business head of the band. Credit where it's due, he's mostly good in that department.

While the mainstream success may not be viewed as "high quality" by fans of the older stuff, it's still a massive achievement. I cannot picture any band in their contemporaries with the will or the skill or the tools to pull off what Metallica did in 1991. That was a perfect storm of events. Either bands crumbled as soon as they got off the ground (ie. Alice in Chains) or they were too corny to ever be taken seriously (ie. 99.9% of metal).

They are the GOATs (or in the conversation) for a reason. I'll go ahead and say that they are the GOATs IMO. They made the most successful pivot out of any metal band in history (the jump from Justice to Black Album and all the fame that came with it). Their career is richer now than if they tried to repeat MoP or RtL or if they tried to up the ante on Justice. The classics will always exist. They wanted to be more commercial and accessible. I don't see that as a betrayal like some people do.
