Notschmendrake posted some statistics on how such great lives many men has.

76% of all suicides and 85% homeless all being men, but by all means continue thinking men are the privileged ones.
The top 5% of men have it really good, so the abysmal situation of the bottom 50% of men is invalidated by that.

Strongly disagree w/ this. Both of them betrayed her. If her "best friend" was her friend since childhood, that betrayal might even be worse, IMO. Should've dropped both of them from her life. Considering it happened to me this year? Very concerned.

What's even more concerning is how much the police don't give a shit about it.

I filed an initial police report once I noticed suspicious activity on my credit report/tracker, before knowing any more details. As the fraudulent bills came in and I worked w/ the businesses to clear things up and got some info on at least one of the scammers (email, phone, IP address used, etc... yes, I'm sure all of it was fake/VPN, but surely it's something of a lead?) I added to the report.
Mid-way thru, one of the businesses wanted a copy of the police report. I had to go through the records department and wait a while (filing the new info in the meantime), and then when I got the report, it said the following:

Case Status:
CLOSED NO ARREST

That was from the initial report, before I could even provide many details. They considered the case closed from the very start. It's been months since I added all of the details to the report and nothing else has been done. It took literally a month of calls to even get the officer to come back and review my new evidence, he apologized and said how busy he had been. I legit think he's the only officer assigned to ID theft in the entire county (ie, I don't blame him, personally). They (police) don't fucking care. At all.

One valuable thing I did learn from all of this is that apparently in 2019 Congress FINALLY did what should've been the law all along: make it free to permanently freeze and then temporarily un-freeze your credit. I thought it still cost money w/ all 3 bureaus to do that, still. So now at least I have that in place, would've done it before if I had known the law had changed.

Because the Rittenhouse case is far more interesting and controversial. Most people seem to agree that the McMichael's are guilty, so what is there really to talk about?
Like I said, the background behind why it took so long and took the murderers leaking their own video to generate an arrest is on its own enough controversy and rage-fuel to get a 500 topic.
The jury selection was incredibly racially biased, w/ the defense getting rid of as many black jurors from the pool as possible to get 11 white and 1 black juror in a community that's like 38% black. And further made the racist intentions blatant by asking for the judge to remove black pastors from the court because they were "intimidating".
And the scum bags' incriminating statements on the stand really are something else.

Plenty to talk about, and I was criticizing the news. Whose job is supposed to be to inform, not revel in partisanship for cheap ratings (I know that it's the opposite in reality, my whole point is this is indicative of everything wrong w/ the news media).

And even after the first shots fired, Gaige approached Rittenhouse and aimed at him... and yet the prosecution has him up there crying and pretending he's blameless despite again, chasing down and trying to murder a teenager. And even after Gaige admitted on the stand to pointing that gun at Rittenhouse, the media defended it -- arguing that he was nervous, etc, not sure what he was doing... unless the kid a large group was chasing and trying to murder. I was talking about the Arbery case. Nothing in my post was about Rittenhouse's case.

I haven't followed the Rittenhouse case much b/c it doesn't seem anywhere near as much of an outrage as this case (not to mention the cover up involving DA officials that almost kept it under wraps until the perpetrators leaked their own incriminating evidence to the public).

How to commit murder and claim self-defense:
  1. Attack/threaten an innocent unarmed person with a gun
  2. Once he's frightened for his life, he tries to disarm the gun from you in a desperate struggle to not die
  3. The SECOND his hand touches the gun, you're now clear to fire "in self defense". Of the situation you created and instigated, and brought the weapon to.
  4. Just to be safe, make sure you're white and the other guy's black
I'm so fucking sick of this bs. It's always the armed aggressor talking about HIS right to "self defense". The idea that the murder victim was trying to defend himself from a crazy ass hole with a gun somehow doesn't get any air time.

But at least w/ a breaking and entering situation, or a lockpicking situation... they're making a scene or looking obviously suspicious (on the off chance someone else passes by and sees), and possibly leaving damage or tampering evidence behind.

With a smart lock, the obvious physical signs of illegal entry are no longer there, and it can be done remotely from far away. That's what bothers me....

Except it's not. Rural generally doesn't require the same level of support, because reduced population requires less infrastructure. It can also be more self-supporting to some degree.
Oh, so now resources per person isn't what matters. Got it.

Suburban living has the population pressures and requirements of urban life but without the advantages of shared space that allows cities to more efficiently utilize resources and infrastructure. Rural areas face much lower population pressure and infrastructure requirements, so wind up being more efficient than suburbs in their own way as well. Suburbs are basically the worst-case scenario between the two extremes.
Suburbs are in between rural and cities in population pressure and infrastructure requirements.
Rows of detached houses all on the same water system and electrical grid with shopping complexes a few miles away are far more efficient than rural houses on acres of land that have to be reached individually by power lines and on their own closed well and septic systems each and require driving many miles to get to shopping centers.

It's also part of the reason why living in the suburbs is almost always the most expensive cost of living expense. Which is why there's demographic evidence that people tend to move out of the suburbs and into cities in times of economic downturn, while they move out of cities to the suburbs when the economy is doing well. Suburbs are ridiculously wasteful.
The cost difference to build the same size house in a suburb or rural area is negligible. The difference is the price of the land. Suburbs are more expensive than rural because people want to live there, and demand sets the price. And no, cities are easily the most expensive for the same reason (land is more valuable), unless you are extremely disingenuous and compare a 1000 ft flat in a city with a 3500 sq. ft McMansion in a suburb.
And the suburbs have seen a big influx from the cities since the pandemic despite the economic hardship. Before that, cities were growing even during the post-Great Recession boom. There's no connection between the migration to cities and economic downturn.

Ideally, we'd have condensed walkable cities with cheap/free trains or subways to get around and almost no streets for cars, then along the perimeter of each city, train stations to bring in people from the suburbs, which also have stations for people to park and ditch their cars at.

Murphy had just barely won his election but will lose a handful of state senate and house seats though looks to retain a majority as Democrats now have to focus on how to turn it around next year when a wider election comes around nationwide
Seems about right.
Focus on taxing the rich, advancing green energy, reducing inflation and stopping the housing price surge, and other stuff that a massive majority of people actually want.
stop catering to the twitter crowd as if they represent America, it's really turning people against the Democrats.
Give Manchin and Sinema whatever pork they want and get some shit done. Failing to do anything w/ total control of the government while people can't afford housing and see massive inflation is wreaking havoc on the party.

the only reason to want something to be legal is because you want to not get in trouble for doing it

there are different degrees to it. i would view someone as wanting weed legalized as harmless

someone wanting to be allowed to have sex with children is, uh, very much extremely not harmless
I don't drink or smoke and have no interest in marijuana or other drugs.
I think weed should be legal b/c the "war" against it does a lot of harm for a drug that's way less harmful than other two I mentioned which already are legal.

Or as Helly sees it, "herp derp, SotS wants to smoke weed!"

16 is functionally a child. Men who argue against that should be on a watch list. I said what I said.
Yeah, we're aware.

Who cares dude? You're over here trying to defend having sex with 16 year olds. It's weird. And now people are discussing if it was a crime of passion. Give me a break. Men will do anything to defend men it's so strange lmao
I thought defending the murderer is ridiculous, and you still manage to have such a toxic take on it that I disagree w/ you anyway.

The majority of the country, 16 is legal to begin with. In many more states, there are Romeo and Juliet laws covering a few years difference in age. CA happens to be one of the very few states where that was even a crime.
I even said that while CA law was out of step w/ the vast majority of the country, the step dad was justified in his reaction since it was illegal in this case.

But you feel the need to call the 3 yrs. younger person a "kid" and make it some sort of sexist conspiracy that people don't think a 3 year age gap is a big deal.

"Developers HATE this one simple trick!" You can't lie when there's a contract, and HOAs established by developers are controlled by developers so you won't have the power to dissolve it.
Yup.
They'll want the HOA covenants written up before they begin work on the property, and in order to subdivide a parcel of land into the lots for houses, a plat is required. The government will need to know in order for the plat to be approved whether the roads will be publicly maintained or private (HOA).
I was so confused by his statement, b/c it made no sense at all. You can't just "fake" having a HOA.

No more censorship policy
Backwards compatible w/ all prior PS consoles (physical discs) and expanding PSN purchases for use on PS6 (I have a bunch of PS1 and PS2 digital games that can only be played on PS3... Not PS4 or PS5, for..."reasons")
Optical drive priced fairly (it does NOT fucking cost them $100)
Free tier for online, for stuff that isn't outright online multiplayer / PvP
Actually fucking test software updates before releasing them / requiring them to access the online store (recent one caused bricked consoles)

Basically just put out a console that plays games w/o all of the fucking bull shit that's been layered on the past few generations.
That's it. That's all I ask for.

Honey mustard is the best.
Brown and regular mustard are fine.
I also loved the "dijon dill" mustard dressing I had at a restaurant, I keep meaning to look up recipes to make it myself since no one sells it... It's sort of like honey mustard except tart instead of sweet.

It's not gross, but definitely is on hot dogs. Ketchup all the way for them.

Second off still not seeing a picture of the lawn. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people hate HOA's (myself included) however, I've never lived anywhere HOA or not where you can let your yard go wild and not run afoul some city code. So without a picture of the lawn I can't lay blame on the HOA for this.

What I take away from the story is the cops try to contact the person. They refuse to open the door so the workers start and then the dude starts opening fire from inside the house. In no world, even if the HOA was being unreasonable, can I just overlook that. Dude had no justification for what he did, he set his own house on fire, and then committed suicide by cop.
The cops admitted that they were enforcing an HOA covenant, not a city ordinance. The government had no right to get involved in the first place and while shooting at people wasn't justified, the HOA and the government did "start this" when they vastly overstepped their authority.

Your thread title is bull shit.
Sensationalist, but technically true.
If it weren't for an overbearing HOA getting the authorities involved for something that wasn't against any law on the books, the home owner would not be dead right now.
