Pokemon feels like the video game equivalent of that really long stretch when the One Piece anime was disgustingly underfunded and looked like ass despite being the highest grosser in the history of the source material's medium. Very easy to understand why but much harder to understand why people are as tolerant of it as they are.

Every part of a game matters, it's a cumulative experience. People who say the graphics don't matter are the same people to me who say they'll play a game start to finish on mute with headphones in listening to music.

I do KIND of get it, Pokemon finally decides to do something new and it works, there's a fan mentality that NOBODY should say anything bad about the game at the risk they they may go back to formula.

There's a reason I specifically said GameCube, those games generally looked better than PS2 or Xbox games!

I also wouldn't say that about most Switch games. Most Switch games look better than Arceus.

To taste I suppose. I generally grade open world games down on a scale for being big empty nothings, and this one is as empty as it gets.

It's not like it's actually affecting my enjoyment, it just frustrates me when people go full on "this is fine", because it's never going to get any better if you don't care that it looks bad. If they aren't willing to pull out the stops for a full upheavel of the franchise, when will they?

I'll give you that Wind Waker is a cheap shot since it's full objectivity. It's the best looking game Nintendo has ever made IMO even at low resolution.

First party only off the top of my head? Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine.

Not sure about Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin 2.

We've already seen the game run through an emulator before it even officially came out, didn't do much.

Heck, the emulated version is why people were shocked by how ugly it was days before release!

It's not hyperbole at all, plenty of GC games look better than this run through an emulator. I guess if you don't count that and are comparing to raw 480 then sure.

Again, John Dimaggio. One of the most well known VAs of our time. Universally praised for his talents. Bender, Jake the Dog, Marcus...of War. A+ stuff.

Wakka has a good performance by the standards of FFX, but in general? It's waaaay below his usual work.

Again, it's direction. A great modern example is the Netflix dub of Evangelion. The voice actors themselves are totally fine, but the direction from Khara makes it a mess.

I think the only notable role from Lulu's VA is Sheryl from NMH, which is also not...a GREAT performance, but it does what it needs.

The man has talent! Even just Ratchet proves that, not to mention his other roles.

I put no blame on the actors themselves honestly. Most of them don't have the most extensive careers after this game, though.

I would certainly not mind a full on redub even if I think a lot of the guff this dub gets is overstated.

It's certainly a localization that shows it's age with the quality of the dub acting, even in the writing itself.

Like, as I stated before, a blatant reference to the Macarena complete with Tidus reacting with a line from the song makes since in a Disgaea game or something, here it's just awkward. And I'm certainly not opposed to having plenty of fun with a localization, I still consider Woolsey a king and Working Designs a pillar, but when it doesn't work it doesn't work!

But there are certainly far worse out there. This one is just obscenely flat because it's clear that none of these VAs were given much if any actual direction. All you have to do is compare John Dimaggio to ANY of his other roles to see that.

ALL the background characters sound awful.

I'm not an FFX fan and even I think that scene is totally fine seeing it again just reinforced that it was on purpose. It's like people forget that Yuna does the same awkward laugh right after then they both bust into normal laughter.

Honestly I think the worst voice in this game is Lulu! Not in terms of performance or being traditionally the "worst" voice acting, but I think based on the dialogue that it's just not the type of voice she's supposed to have.

I mainly talking about her wearing a heavy, fur lined coat in a sunny island environment than anything

It's been a while, but as I recall, Tidus takes an immediate dislike to Seymour and narrates as much. I don't recall anyone else being less respectful toward Seymour than you'd expect them to be toward a generic Maester until Seymour gives them reason to think less of him. Which doesn't take long, really. "That's not something a Maester should say!" "Pretend I didn't say it."

I guess it's me subconsciously reading that moment as a POSITIVE Seymour moment, like Tidus mulls about internally after he says it.

Also I'm just gonna say it. I don't like the FFX aesthetic in the slightest but it's really coherent and all the designs at least make sense withing the world...

Except for Lulu who's outfit doesn't make sense from any perspective whatsoever inside universe or out, and clearly was just Nomura drawing his personal fetish or something.

I really don't know what they were thinking here. I know they wanted to establish how much better the other team was, but the amount of frustration from this first match is such that it's damaging to average players opinion not the minigame period. It either ended to be less lopsided or straight up unwinnable, offering the actual ability to win and earn a reward but making it this bullahit just makes the entire system look like crap. It wouldn't be so bad other than the unskippable 8 minutes of cutscene before and during the process.

I adore this game (well, Madness Returns specifically) and hope it's done justice.

These are some of the things about FF12 that bothers me so much to this day. A very good example of FF12's plot, characters and dialogue being just so head scratchingly bad. Yes Zodiac Age fixed a lot of the slow sections and the structure of the gameplay for the better but the plot is just irredeemable hot garbage that can never be fixed. So unless Square Enix decide to nuke the original game completely like how ARR did to OG FFXIV and remake FF12 from scratch, the game will remain a blight on the series and the beginning of the downward spiral for the mainline entries.

We can only trust in YoshiP to save us with XVI.

Speaking of which since I just got to it, I'm legitimately surprised that Valefor has straight up no representation yet in XIV. Not a world boss, mount, mob, anything. Seems like an obvious one, I guess it's only a matter of time?
