https://www.npr.org/2020/06/23/881608999/why-theres-a-push-to-get-police-out-of-schools

At least two-thirds of American high school students attend a school with a police officer, according to the Urban Institute, and that proportion is higher for students of color. Now, the national uprising for racial justice has led to a push to remove police officers from security positions inside schools. School systems in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Denver, Portland, Ore., and two districts in the Bay Area have all moved in recent weeks to suspend or phase out ties with police.

Jesse Hagopian, a teacher and activist in Seattle, says removing police from schools has been a key demand of the Black Lives Matter movement for years.

"The presence of police in schools, I believe, is fueled by a dehumanization of children of color, which suggests that there needs to be a constant surveillance of these children in schools."

In the past, parents have largely supported the presence of armed officers in schools, and until recently so have teacher unions. That changed on June 18, when the American Federation of Teachers, one of the country's largest teacher unions, passed a resolution calling for the separation of school safety and policing.

"There isn't much evidence indicating that police officers in schools make schools safer," says Dominique Parris of the research organization Child Trends. "What they do do is increase the likelihood that Black and brown children are going to be involved in the legal system early and often."

I'm surprised Ruvan even asked you about that. It's been a talking point for awhile.

Someone added two items to their wish list. When I click the link, it has a color already selected. For the first item, it is the very first color. For the second item, it is the first color on the 2nd row of color options.

Do you think this is the color the person wanted? Or is Amazon just randomly choosing the color?

Not really. I recognize it's deadlier than the flu and can often come with worse symptoms than the flu.

But if COVID is here to stay or its variants, you can't really hide from a virus unless you never leave your house or constantly attempt to be as safe as possible when around people, and even then, you can still get it.

I've accepted that if I get it, hopefully it won't treat me too badly. We're coming up on 2 years with this. Some people haven't been on a vacation, have avoided gatherings, have avoided people in general, etc and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, because it doesn't look like it's ending anytime soon. I'm not one of those people, but to each their own. Everyone deserves to make choices for themselves and do things they best see fit.

I don't want to spend 2, 3, 4, 5 years of my life trying to avoid something that may not really be avoidable.

If you're legitimately going to put in the work to train the dog, then it will be okay. Trained dogs are happy dogs and they can be just fine if left alone for hours. If you don't have a yard, you should probably come home during lunch and let the dog out to use the restroom.

Spend plenty of time with the dog before you leave for work and when you come home for the evening.

Don't be that person who doesn't put in the work to train an animal (which, unfortunately applies to many dog owners). It takes time and dedication. If you can't provide that, I wouldn't bother. Some people who are able to stay at home often shouldn't even have a dog because they don't want to put in any actual work to train it. They just let it jump on people, bark all day, scratch up doors if left outside for even a few minutes, etc---a real big pet peeve of mine.

I think her phrasing was incendiary, but it seems that she was discussing on Tucker's show about how the media and/or the left portrays certain incidents when white people are involved. Which I think is often incendiary, too. Two wrongs don't make a right, but it doesn't seem she blurted that out of thin air.

From the article: "the left can pull a racist narrative from thin air where it doesnt exist. When it is actually in their face they try to avoid it.

Right before the Waukesha incident, CNN published an article with the headline of "There's nothing more frightening today than an angry White man"

What metric were they using? Were they being incendiary, too? I think things like that were what was what was being discussed on Tucker's show.

People who call out Candace Owens should also call out certain groups from the left or media portrayals of other groups, too. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it doesn't.

I think rhetoric needs to be toned down on all sides for us to come together as a nation again.

To address the violence, Schaaf said she'll ask the city council to reverse funding cuts scheduled to take effect next year, though she still supports diversion efforts.
When those messages and services are not effective the consequences must be swift and certain," Schaaf told reporters Monday on a Zoom call. There is nothing progressive about unbridled gun violence.

"A federal court on Monday temporarily halted the Biden administrations COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health workers at hospitals that receive federal funding.
The ruling by a Missouri-based federal judge applies to health care employees in the 10 states that sued to block the administrations Nov. 5 rule. Those states are Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
U.S. District Judge Matthew Schelp, a Trump appointee, appeared persuaded by the states argument that the mandate would lead to staffing shortages.
The scale falls clearly in favor of healthcare facilities operating with some unvaccinated employees, staff, trainees, students, volunteers and contractors, rather than the swift, irremediable impact of requiring healthcare facilities to choose between two undesirable choices providing substandard care or providing no healthcare at all, Schelp wrote in a 32-page order."

Tyranthraxus posted...
You have to watch the video but the high level summary is:
1. Self defense law is highly contextualized by state.
2. Wisconsin requires a duty to retreat if you provoked the attack before you can use deadly force in self defense.
3. Provocation in Wisconsin requires unlawful conduct. Curfew is likely unjustifiable because lots of people were violating curfew and there weren't mass provocation incidents. And he's legally allowed to possess a non-short barreled rifle as a minor so he wasn't committing a crime there either.

Makes perfect sense. Why would anyone think breaking curfew would be a provocative act when everyone involved was breaking curfew?

My analysis would be that Rittenhouse should have had better judgement of going down there in the first place and I'm sure in retrospect he learned his lesson. It's sad that people were setting things on fire, etc. and he did have every legal right to be there; but it was still bad judgement and trouble waiting to happen. The same could be said for the people who were also down there participating and disobeying police orders and curfew. It was at night, the protest was over. No one should have been there at that time.

What ended up transpiring, though, was a clear self defense case. Rosenbaum clearly had some issues, which were well documented throughout the trial. It's clear that Rosenbaum chased Rittenhouse to the point where Rittenhouse had no other option at that point.

What transpired afterwards was mob mentality. Not everyone chasing Rittenhouse knew exactly what happened with him and Rosenbaum nor did they see it. Some could have assumed Rittenhouse was a random gunner, specifically, Huber. Maybe Huber thought he was trying to stop a threat (I'm not 100% familiar with Huber's account or evidence regarding him besides his attack on Rittenhouse). Grosskreutz, on the other hand, did have some idea of what happened and Rittenhouse told him directly that he was going to the police but Grosskreutz continued to follow.

A bad situation all around, but Rittenhouse was not the aggressor and was seen fleeing and running away.

As a side note, all these Youtubers sound the same to me. I guess they use the same equipment... kind of annoying.
