I still think the show was a flash-in-the-pan kind of thing, and started losing steam after the first season. Even with McGruder back, I don't think the revival would have been very good, no matter the sociopolitical climate is today. It probably would have been hard to make light of it anyway

It's definitely campier than people give it credit for, and honestly isn't that less silly than the Schumacher films.

The disparity between scores seems to be on whether they enjoyed the roguelike aspects or not. Apparently death in this game is very punishing, and will set you back a spell

But even so, the answer as to why they've dragged their feet is still money. The retro demographic is more slim than people realize, and the cost of both getting the games to run properly and the rights to older games (which - even if released under the Sony banner back then - would still have some rights issues now) is high
