Chris Evans was relatively famous before MCU, had leading roles in several movies, though his career was definitely helped by it. And Brie Larson was rising fast before being announced as Captain Marvel.
Was he though?

A quick look at his IMDB, the only "Big" movies he was in prior to being Capt. America was Scott Pilgrim and, oddly enough, playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch in the two Fantastic Four movies.

Yea I agree and this isn't as much nepotism but just knowing the right people. Mostly everyone I know including myself has gotten into jobs and opportunities from knowing the right person.

Merit won't get you a job over someone the management knows personally who's gotten the recommendation from someone inside.
Every job I've ever had, all five of them, were because someone I know "got" me the job interview/offer.

(High School) Worked at the same amusement park my older sister was working at.

(High School) Worked at the Deli my sister's boyfriend was working at.

(College) Worked at the bank branch my mom was the VP of the department.

(Post College) Worked at the Publishing Company my best friend was working at.

(Post College) Currently working at the Battery Sales and Distribution company that my Mother-In-Law was working at (she has since retired).

Only job I was "given" was the one where my Mom worked there, but I wasn't just handed the job, I had the required qualifications for the job opening.

Don Cheadle, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow?
I was more talking about the actor/actress that was the "starring role" in the film.
None of the movies they were in were movies where them being in it is what sold the movie.

Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, etc. Those were established actors, but not necessarily the cream of the crop as far as box office appeal goes until they were a part of the MCU.

Every single one of those roles could've been played by a virtual "no name" or fringe level star, and the movies would've been just as successful.

I see it similar to Star Wars. Most of the actors in The Force awakens were fringe level stars or virtual unknowns.

The Star Wars name is what sold the movie, just like the MCU umbrella is what sells those movies. People are going to see the story continue, not going because Chris Evans (for example) is in the movie.

Depending on where you live, you can sit it out by the curb and it will be gone within hours lol
That's basically what I do with stuff I don't feel like putting in the effort it takes to put it on OfferUp or FB Marketplace.

I put it to the curb 2 days before garbage pickup.

90% of the time, it's gone within 2 hours.

I love the revisionist thinking that these actors didn't become "big namr" due to Marvel. If they did it several times before then they can do it again with new actors.
Definitely this as well.

Looking back, who was really a big star prior to being in the MCU other than ScarJo?

Maybe you can say Robert Downey Jr? And even him, Iron Man resurrected his career, not kept his already bright star shining.

It wasn't until they knew the MCU movies were guaranteed big box office that they started using big names in prominent roles like Cumberbatch in Dr. Strange.

Good movies and good stories.

WandaVision and Loki were amazing.
Exactly.

WandaVison wasn't really filled with "big name" actors, at least not on the level that the other MCU movies are.

If anything, their involvement in the MCU is what turned Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in "big name actors". No one really says "Elizabeth Olsen? The lady from Wind River?".

Those movies are so huge, they turn actors into "big name" actors, not the other way around.

$X for a dozen wings or same $X for a dozen boneless means I'm getting like 4x as much chicken with the latter, while throwing away a pile of bones for the former

You make it sound like they taste exactly the same, which they don't.

You're literally ordering two different products.

It's like taking a porterhouse, cutting it into strips, lathering them in BBQ sauce, and calling them "boneless beef spare ribs".

Well then the fast food restaurant you worked at wasn't McDonalds, because they 100% use a 2-sided heat press grill that cooks both sides of the beef patty at the same time.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is kinda like that.

Once you get into "Chapter 2" of the story, the map opens up enough that you can do close to 90% of the side missions/collectable missions that do not progress the storyline.

How are the freezers going to stay powered on a deserted island
For the hypothetical, were supposed to assume they're solar powered.

Like someone said, some of that bacon can be used as fish bait, and if you're lucky you can supplement your diet with some seafood.

Otherwise, the salt content of the bacon and the lack of fresh water (better hope this island is tropical and you get you fair share of rain), you're not going to last very long.

Probably a few weeks/months, assuming there are NO other food sources on the island (fruits, vegetables, etc.)

bigblu89

It basically stems from "old think" that fast food is a job that teenagers have to make some pocket money while they're still in high school.

The flaw in that is that it isn't the 1960's anymore, and many more adults are working in the fast food industry.
